View Full Version : Your Filthy Little Mouth
I've just been digging this tune lately! It always brings a grin to my face. Anybody else like it? I don't know that we've talked about it before.
"How bout a little Henry Miller
With your Huckleberry Finn
Assume the position, honey
Let's begin
You can do your penance
Right along with that special sin"
They just don't write songs like that anymore. smilies/smile.gif
Some of the tunes were lacking, but that album had some clever lyrics in places.
I haven't listened to that tune for a while. It's not my favorite off the album but quite listenable. Lands edge, Big Train and sunburn are all great.
Might have to dust the ole YFLM off and spin it a bit in the car this week. I'll stay clear of that attempt at reggae though smilies/wink.gif
The use of the swear word probably would make people assume that it's just a shitty lyric, but I always thought the lyric below was really cool;
And if you turned up the volume
You could hear her demons call
She'd say
"Fuck me like Chopin or don't fuck me at all"
Really cool song. One of several on that album. It's actually a good album except for the middle section. A Little Luck, Cheatin Heart Cafe, Hey You Never Know, and No Big Ting are pretty weak stuff. But I like the rest.

Those lyrics just show Dave can be creative, and intellectual, but he can also just be Dave! smilies/biggrin.gif

YFLM is a pretty good album. I still like EEAS, Skyscraper, and ALAE a bit more, though.

I like that song too, it is my favorite song on the YFLM album, along with She's My Machine. smilies/cool.gif
As far as the album goes, I like it, but it is my least favorite solo album after DLR Band.
Filthy little mouth and VH 3...
Probably the most expensive demos ever made ...
( actually filthy IS a good album...
good for holding coffee tables steady that is...) smilies/sleep.gif
For me, I thought YFLM was Dave's worst album. I just couldn't get into some of the tunes (especially the Travis Tritt duet). I did enjoy 'Sunburn' and 'She's My Machine'. Out of his other albums, I like Eat'em and Smile and Skyscraper the best.

The other day on the way to church I figured I'd get brave and finally (after owning it for a year) pull this album out and give it a spin. I only made it through three songs (I don't live that far from church smilies/biggrin.gif), but here is my view on the first three songs, having given them one listen.
She's My Machine
First song up on a departure album... isn't. Pretty good actually. I feel better about giving this a test listen now.
Everybody's Got the Monkey
Er, okay... Musically not a departure, but these have to be some of the weakest lyrics I've heard from Dave so far.
Big Train
I'll be honest, I only got through about 1:15 of this song. What I heard seemed fine to me.
Bottom line... 2 out of 3 ain't bad? smilies/smile.gif I'm a little more heartened about giving the entire thing a listen now.
