View Full Version : Yesterday's Golf Outing
On the 8th hole I was even par .
The best round I had in 2 years ,
almost eagled the par 5 7th hole but birdied it and go to the 8th hole and got a 6
on a par four . Shit !!http://64.176.3.141/vhlforum/smilies/biggrin.gif
9th hole is also a par 4 . Short par 4 , about 345 yards . Hit a great drive , about 275 pull out my wedge , and hit it and hit some branches , damm . Ended up double bogeying the last hole .
Golf really tests you . Had a awesome round goin until the last 2 holes , but I did keep my cool and shrugged it off . Had a few beers after the round with my buddie . Anyone else here play golf ??

Love this sport.
Went to an outing a couple of weeks agoto a place in northern Michigan, called Boyen Highlands. The course is called Little Traverse Bay. On the 11th hole, it's an elevated tee. About 100 feet above the green and 450 yards long with a slight dog right. Well last year on it, my drive went left and I hit the road that goes along side of it where it clears the trees. About 375 yards.
This year I said to my father, I'm going to be in front of that green. Sure enough, hit that puppy perfect and it ended up 50 yards from the edge of the green. My dad almost sh#$. Blew the hole though. Used a 7 iron to pitch and run, and it ran though the green over the edge, so I ended up with a 5.
Hey dude , I live up by Port Huron http://64.176.3.141/vhlforum/smilies/biggrin.gif
I played a lot when I was a teenager, but now I'm lucky if I go once a year. I've finally gotten to a place where I don't get pissed off when I golf. I used to be terrible; getting angry and beating clubs on the ground. Now, I just do the best I can and have a good time. If I break 100, I consider that I've had a good day. The best I ever shot was an 85 for 18 holes.
I play, not as often as I'd like, so it's hard to get better. I still pretty much suck, except I can hit decent drives, and I can putt pretty well. Short game is awful. I'm lucky if I break 100, my best round is 90 I think.

I try to get out on the course atleast once a week. Golf is a extremely frustrating game, you must concentrate constantly. I have to remind myself often that this is fun and I could be working instead of golfing.

Yep I do, it's an addiction with me. I carry an 8 handicap. Try to golf at least 3 times a week.

I play as much as possible, been shoting low 40's all year a couple high 30's in there.
My iron game has gone to hell this year but the rest of my game is soild.
Had a hole in one on may 27, 1989 and my low round came back in 94 when I shot a 69, back then I play 18-27holes a day, now I play 9 about 3-4 days a week.

Ed, not to far from you. Live in Clarkston,5 miles north of Pine Knob. By the way If your in the area I'll take you to the club I'm in. Nice course in Grand Blanc.
Dimoncutter , hey I play at Grand Blanc country club sometimes on Perry Road . They got 2 sets of 18 . I like to play the Blue nine across the road from the clubhouse , real nice course and it only costs $9.00 for nine holes without a cart . Fuck the cart , I walk .http://64.176.3.141/vhlforum/smilies/biggrin.gif
Now....bowling...there's a sport, there I got all of you. http://64.176.3.141/vhlforum/smilies/biggrin.gif

I can't bowl for beans , god I am BAD at bowling . I think it's hard . One time my dad bowled a 300 . He's a good bowler . In high school I worked at a bowling alley but I hung out in the arcade http://64.176.3.141/vhlforum/smilies/biggrin.gif
I'll right I'll take your dad on Ed. I've got a few 300's and actually had a PBA regional card 6 years ago. (Don't laugh http://64.176.3.141/vhlforum/smilies/smile.gif)

Thats cool Brett . Bowling looks easy but it's not . I think my highest score is like 145 , I'm awful at it . You should go on the tour and then we could watch you "ABC's Wide World of Sports " tearing up those pins http://64.176.3.141/vhlforum/smilies/biggrin.gif
Way too much competetion and no money in it. You have to be in the Top 5 or 10 to really make any cash and the travelling is unreal. I'm too old for it now anyway, and I don't bowl near enough anymore to handle 60-80 games a week.

Yeah , that sounds like a rough road and life . I golf only twice a week 9 holes each time and it's nice to get out there and play . I am on a league with my friend and he wants me to bowl with him in the fall on a league but I am not that good .
I'm determined to get decent at golf, I love getting out there even if I get frustrated. Bowling is usually relaxing for me, but I am pretty competetive with myself, and sometimes it gets the better of me. That's why I don't bowl competetively anymore, just with my family on a fun league. Go do it, it's a cool way to drink beer. http://64.176.3.141/vhlforum/smilies/smile.gif

Yeah , instead of 10 pins I'd probably see 20 after about 6 Miller Lites http://64.176.3.141/vhlforum/smilies/biggrin.gifhttp://64.176.3.141/vhlforum/smilies/biggrin.gif
Golf really tests you and it pisses you off BUT I have found that if I play a bad shot or have a bad hole , you have to forget about it and I have learned to concentrate also . It really pushes you and sometimes it bites you but I love the challenge .

Ed, I play Grand Blanc alot too. Yes that blue course is great. I was playing best ball at an outing there with my dad, my uncle, and a friend of ours and we saw a tornado start up right over us. You never saw so many carts go through that tunnel under Perry. Yeah I need a cart, bad knees.
The club I'm in is called Genesee Hills.
30 dollars a year dues and 20 dollars a loup with a cart. It borders Grand Blanc at one point, I think on the red course.

Funny these two sports should get mentioned in the same thread, 'cause I've always maintained that if I could just swap my bowling and golfing scores, I'd be absolutely phenomenal in each!
I can't break a hundred with bumpers up. Can sure as hell break a sliding glass door slicing a drive, though...

I'm a golfer, also (powerbiltkh). Played for 18 years or so (I'm 31). Best round was 75 - 5 times, just can't get any lower. Used to bowl in junior leagues when I was young and could do all that stuff.

I don't golf, but my husband does. Anyway, he bought my oldest son his first set of clubs last night and he's at his first golf lesson right now.

You should tell your kid this.."Listen to what Daddy says, Not what he does". I bought my son his first set of Clubs two years ago. (He is adopted by the way...its important that you know this) Anyway....we could never really get a Bond going so my wife asked me to take him golfing. So I went out and bought some clubs, a glove, balls and all of the little stuff and took the boy to the driving range. My golf Pro worked with him for about an hour and came back into the Clubhouse smiling at me. "He is going to better than you", he said. So the next day we go out on his first golf outing. He did about as well as an 8 year old could do but damn I had a blast and so did he. So now he is my new Golf Partner. If I go out...he goes out end of story and if any of my friends dont like that....C-ya, because I have my Son to take with me. The point of this story......We have Bonded now and it is because of Golf. He Loves it, I love it and now my Wife Loves it. I am truly a very lucky Man.

Wow, now porche, thats what the game is all about man. Its a lifelong tradition, you two will always have that no matter what happens. BTW, you live near me, who is your pro? I may know him. I used to be a golf pro out at Pumpkin Ridge and still know many of the pros in the area.
I played last weekend (only play once a month now probably http://64.176.3.141/vhlforum/smilies/cry.gif ) and was lucky enough to be -1 for nine at a pretty easy course (Driver-wedge type, 5's in two). Thats NOT the norm for me nowadays though. Sometimes a long break is what you need.http://64.176.3.141/vhlforum/smilies/smile.gif

I play golf every single day, I'm a course grounds-keeper, and when I gradaute college I plan to design, build, and maintain my own golf course.
I also have a red & white stripped driver. I have a really bad picture of it on my web page (it was actually red & silver then), but I'm getting a new one up there soon!
