My god the performance videos of "Jump" and "California Girls" are fucking pathetic. Look I love Dave as much as any VH fan anywhere but this guy is without a doubt a shadow of his former self. The voice is shot, the forehead has become a fivehead and he looks like Larry from Three's Company doing an impression of a lounge singer. Sad, sad, sad. Playing with the "pops" didn't help matters either.

Sure they do.
In fact, when Ed was in rehab this past winter in NYC it was because Dave had referred him to the place....as well as to a doctor to look at his cancerous tongue.

Why not? Van Halen did there best nostalgia Jimmy Buffet bore-fest tour last year. Sam had the bloated BETTE MIDLER in red pajama thing goin' and his screechy Janice Joplin was missin' many of the high notes. Ed looked like a reject from Bum fights, and Michael Anthony...well what can I say regarding the hair plug mullet? And of course, Alex hid is mongoloid mug behind the drum kit. Pot, mother-fuckin'-tea kettle pal! But I bet you 'love' SAM, ALEX, ED, and even Mikey as much as anybody. So much so that you failed to mention any criticism.;)

I could have sworn I went to Dave's site 2 days ago and it was the same old slideshow???
I haven't gone over the site yet, but from what I've seen so far it's the update that's been badly needed!

It's amazing - the amount of info across the street at that newsstand. It's interesting and entertaining - but all they sell is the National Enquirer.

Agreed Grant. I went there last week just because I hadn't been there in so long, and of course it was the same old thing. I'm suprised they finally updated that place.
And yes those clips of Dave with the Boston Pops are bad. Very bad. Not the vocal performance..just the whole dumb idea.

I don't know what's up, but it was definitely the old site I saw and it was this week. It wasn't cached on my PC either because I hadn't been there for many months.

Didn't look at those - I saw them last year (probably at Sarge's site). I didn't think they were too bad. I still romanticize about Dave returning to the band. :)
Hey, saw Soul Sirkus in your sig. I saw Virgil play here in Melbourne 2 weeks ago. Smokin' as usual. One question - does Virgil play on the album? He has a really distinctive drum sound and I don't think it's his playing on the album. I'm guessing it was recorded before he joined the band??

Do yourself a favor and DON'T look at those clips! LOL
Yes Virgil plays on the Soul Sirkus cd, but it's on the newer version. The first version has Deen Castronova on drums. You're right about Virgil's style too, it's way more technical than Deen's who's got a more 80's feel. You can purchase the newer version of World Play at www.nehrecords.com
It comes with a free dvd too that features a short interview with the band, and two video's. It's very cool. And if you stop by my SS board, Jeff Scott Soto is a member, so it's cool to have one of the band at my site ya know. He posts too. Nice dude.

Speaking of...I wore my 5 star shirt tonite and went and got my hair cut and the girl asked me 'Sam or Dave' (of course). In the end, I didn't have to argue with her. Hell, at this point, I'm just glad that people freakin' know that much about Van Halen to even bother with the question.

Similar story, different ending:
Was in Raley's a couple of weeks back wearing my '79 Tour Shirt. The guy @ the counter says "Van Halen. Cool, man. You like 'em better with David Lee or Sammy?" I said, "You know, dude, I'm a Roth-era fan first & foremost. I think the music they made during that period of time kicked ass the most, but they did write some songs with Hagar that rock..." and he says, "Yeah, like DREAMS." Before I could say anything, the guy next to me in line says, "Jeez, dude, Dreams? I'm a Halen fan too & that's the last Van Hagar song I think of when I hear the word 'rock'. BTW. Killer shirt, dude, II is one of my faves."
Got a good laugh out of that one.

Just curious about something...
I don't know all that much about Dave, but I have never heard him to have a steady girlfriend and I suppose he's never been married. I always see him in videos and pics with lots of beautiful women, and I was wondering how come he doesn't have one of his own by now?
Sam landed Kari and she's beautiful...Dave's a pretty good looking fellow, seems like he should have scored a nice gal by now too...is there something I don't know about him??? No slam on the man...like I said to begin with...just curious is anyone knows what's up with this.

I'm glad you asked that question Jeanette because I've wondered about that too. I mean if Gene Simmons can have a Playmate put up with his crap for this many years, it would seem Dave could have quite the babe.
straight from the concert page: "...what he's playing and who he's playing with!"
We already know he's playing almost only VH stuff... Now, if we only knew something about who's he playing with...
I have a strange feeling about this one...

I have a pic from one of the tabloids a few years ago with Dave and an unnamed blond whom they refer to as "Roth's steady for many years". Don't know how true is is/was, but Dave has managed to keep his love/dating life on the dl for many years.

I haven't read CRAZY FROM THE HEAT yet, trying to get a copy, but there's something in there about DAVE getting serious with a video director in the early to mid-80's. But she began pushing hard for the ring, and I guess they mutually broke it off.
