...off of RHRN... was this played at the Fresno shows... I thought I heard Al once say it's a performance from 1988... if so, where & when... it doesn't sound like 1988, if you know what I mean.. Any help?

Spanked, I do believe that song was played on and off during the FUCK tour. Out.
I'm pretty sure it's from the FUCK tour.
That song is ok but I think they should have put SUMMER NIGHTS or 5150 instead of a WHO song ya know .
I'm with Ed this time. RHRN came off as "F.U.C.K. live, plus Sammy singing Dave's songs. I would have preferred more 5150 and OU812 material.

I gotta agree with FORD on that. I guess it was the FUCK songs that were popular at the time, and they wanted it to sell...after all, it was called Right Here, Right Now...

I wonder who's idea it was to play a who song on tour instead of their own? Isn't it cool saying FUCK songs? http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/biggrin.gifhttp://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/eek.gif HE HE

WesIsOnFire, it is ALWAYS cool to say FUCK songs. (GRIN) I'm a fan of the Who and it was neat to see Van Halen, a huge name in their own right, willing to still do a cover. Most bands wouldn't at this point in their careers, feeling their too big to do someone else's work. I just wish VH had played Baba O'Riley, that would've kicked ass.

A little off topic but, do you guys remember when RHRN was being released, Ed was saying that the recordings span from 1986-FUCK tour, BULLSHIT, I really think they threw up a couple of mikes at the live shows, and took a feed off the board during the FUCK tour, produced the hell out of it.
I guess I'm kind of agreeing with FORD, but I really doubt that that recording from start to finish, spanned more than 2-5 shows on the FUCK tour.
I was soooooo looking forward to that album and when it came out I felt like flying down to LA, and tossin my copy back!

for the video version i think they wanted to avoid repeating tracks from live w/out a net.
the disc is kind of a let-down. not enough variety. should have taken cuts from "live and loud 79" show and released a disc of sam and a disc of dave.
i DID love you really got me/cabo wabo

Well problem is it was recorded all from one tour, and when you're touring on an album you play most if not all the songs from that album over the span of a few nights.
Hence we get all but something like one song from For UCK.

I don't recall anything on that album being from anything but the fuck tour. I know that nothing from 1986 can be on there, but I'm not 100 percent on the 1988 part. I also was dissapointed by the video because I think sammy should have at least worn the same clothes for both nights. It looks wierd when the scenes change and he has differnt shirts on. I guess i'm just used to bootlegs. The HBO special from Canada was way better IMO.

Too bad they didn't include info on the album saying where and when each song was done. Now I CAN hear differences in Ed's guitar tones on some of the tunes, but considering that MOST of the album was recorded off of one tour, then it's trivial at best.

Swisshalen.. are you sure only those two shows???.. Anyone out there at them?
I was always under the impression that the entire album was taken from the Fresno shows on the FUCK tour.

Everything I've read says Fresno, but that doesn't mean I've seen it all. Is the audio on the RHRN video the same as the album it self? I haven't seen the video in a long time. I know that the stage was consistent, but Sammy's outfits had some variation. Sometimes in the same song... But anyway, that might give us a good answer.

MikeL.. the audio from the album and the video are SOMETIMES different depending on the song.. like "In 'n Out".. the audio version is different than the video... but "Judgement Day" (If I remember correctly).. is the same for both.
As for the outfit changes.. the director thought taping the 2 nights in Fresno would capture the band at their best.
