It was not on my list of songs to have with me on a island but i think that intro that Ed plays is killer . Van Halen II is a great album . Lately I have been liking it better than Van Halen I . Anyone agree ?

Pretty cool tune, killer intro. I was hoping EVH was going to throw that in his solo on the last tour, hopefully the next one.

man, Women In Love must have been a true story about Dave in a relationship because I can't see him not liking lesbians for casual sex http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/smile.gifhttp://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/biggrin.gif

I totally did not take that song that way! I thought it was all about the women they meet on the road, how they're all in love with them. Hmmmm, guess I'll have to read those lyrics.

Great song either way.

"honey if your needin' a woman just as bad as me, you aughta be goin'"

That says it all to me.

I agree with Z28 girl. I always assume that song was about all the groupies they encountered on their tours.

Read the VH encyclopedia folks.
"this song is about a guy who loses his girlfriend to another girl"

It's right there in black and white. Hence the title "Women In Love"

'Women In Love' is one of the most underrated songs by VH. I agree that the intro is killer but the background vocals are vintage.

The intro of the song is very nice ! I never learn that song with the guitar , especially the part of the intro with harmonics ! http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/mad.gif YUNNNKKK ... I'm still frustrated for that my insuccesse ! ... U know , I may play scales like John Petrucci , but I am not able to do the intro of "Women in love " !
Finally , what's Eddie secrets in that song !!

It's not clear...

First, yeah that part about "if you need a woman as bad as me" would definitely point out to Dave losing a girl to another girl... but the rest of the lyrics kinda reminds me of what they would tell to the groupies in love with them, to tell them they they don't want long term relationships, just the banging part. http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/confused.gif

Well ED6150 all i can say about this song is it's probably my Favorite off of VH2!That lil whiney sound in ED's solo trips me out http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/wink.gifWill someone PLEASE explain to me why everyone thinks this album was rushed i've NEVER really understood what they were talking about in the reviews & past history of VH2?

ther is no delay on this song, its double tracked.
i love the effort of van halen 2,but i dont like the sonic quality.
it should be remixed/mastered.

Dank, I could swear I remember Ed in an interview with G.W. say he used delay. I dont remember anything about a double track. I may be wrong though.

Listenig to the song I think that Eddie used a huge delay , picking harmonics with the right hand ! i don't think he used a double track ! It sounds strange as a solution !! http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/biggrin.gif http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/biggrin.gif YUNNNKKK http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/biggrin.gif http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/biggrin.gif

its just a single slapback delay with the echoplex..and he s just doing tapped octave harmonics...fret the notes with the left hand then tap on the fret wire an octave(12 frets) up the neck with the right hand finger...like a little hammer on the fret wire ...its actually not that hard to play...http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/smile.gif

ya it rocks!
eddie plays it all the time during soundchecks
he has been since 86
he still does now
its pretty cool
he can still get the same effects
when they played live during the 82, 83 and i think 84 tours he played the intro in his guitar solo
he does at the us fest and in other stuff
its pretty cool!

Hell yeah, man. Women In Love IS just a great, great tune. It's funny that a thread was started about it, because I hadn't listened to VHII in a while, but I pulled it out recently, and forgot how cool that tune was. Definitely in my top 3 on that album.

"If you need a woman just as bad as me, you outta be goin" always seemed like either a warning, or a tease toward the girl Dave is currently looking at. Like saying "I'm really gonna fuck you six ways to sunday baby, I'm so hot for you! So if that sounds scary then you better go now.

Yep like was said earlier, the intro is just tapped harmonics with delay and a clean tone. It's not that hard to do, but you've got to be pretty accurate to make is sound clean. Same technique Ed used to get that calypso thing going on "Dance The Night Away."

Good call Ed6150. I always put that song on mix tapes, because the intro sounds so great. Plus the song itself has a really cool vibe, great backup vocals.

I'm sure I've said it before in this thread, but Women In Love is a great song. But I think it would be a near miracle if the band ever played it live again. Maybe the intro, but that's it.
