I think this is a great album, but... I really don't understand why it's so many people's favorite. Please tell me why.
Got me, I think lyrically it was Dave at his peak. A very underrated album.

Yeah, I agree. Loss of Control & Fools I don't really care for, but oh man, In a Simple Rhyme, Everybody Wants Some & Romeo Delight are incredible. That intro to Romeo Delight, in a word...amazing.
I like "Fools," but "Loss Of Control" isn't the greatest. The solo is cool though, especially when Eddie kicks the flanger on.

Dude I just listened to Loss of Control after reading that post, you're right man! That solo wails! Fools still doesn't do anything for me though, the music is cool, it's just the way it's sung or something, I don't know. Maybe it'll grow on me, I just won't skip it as often http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smile.gif
Yeah I always dug that part of "Loss Of Control" even if the song was just so-so. Not too many people I know like "Fools," I'm almost alone on this one. http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smile.gif

Fools is BADASS. The bluesy intro and into that guitar explosion-too cool. Romeo Delight is another personal fave. And the acoustic intro on Take your Whiskey also.

This is weird cause I've read lots of people saying WACF is #1. I love the guitar work, "In a Simple Ryme" WOW, but #1, I don't know, too each their own, my personal fav is Fair Warning, hands down. It's kinda funny cause for me I see a simalarity between FW and Balance. I think it's that angry edge that FW had, it seem Balance had some of that, as did the twister stuff. I don't know guys, tell me if you guys see it, al le Seventh Seal, Don't tell Me, and especially Feelin.
The solo to "Loss of Control" rules...period!And The Cradle is still one of the best songs they've ever written with DLR at the helm. Lots of great riffs and ideas on this record. I think it carried over to Fair Warning.

Take Your Whiskey Home is my favorite from that album. Others I really liked were A Simple Rhyme, Everybody Wants Some and Romeo Delight. It kind of annoys me when Alex uses the intro of Every Wants Some for Panama. Everytime I see it I think alright their going to play EBWS and then it's Panama for the 100th time. If DLR is back at hopefully they will play more songs from Women And Children First.

W&CF AND FAIR WARNING COULDVE BEEN A DOUBLE ALBUM.
Yeh , hain that bit of music at the end of WACF was put with the intention of it being the intro to FW (probably as a song kickoff), it was called 'Growth' or 'tank' depending on who's telling the story.
Guess once they laid down 'Mean Streets', the intro... Cya growth/tank
Not the best VH album, but top three. This is just an awesome album. I love Loss of Control, in fact I love every song. It just has a different sound that I react to every time I hear it. Everybody Wants Some is nothing short of a classic song, as is Simple Rhyme. Dave's lyrics are great. Did I mention I love this album?
This album is just a smokin',lowdown,bluesy,badass,boogie-fied,gut-bustin' romp of roth n roll. How about that bluesy intro to Fools? And the acoustic intro to Take Your...that could've been recorded on a dark backporch way down yonder in Mississippi or at a juke joint or barbecue or picnic. Hallelujah I love this album. Ride the tank...

This album is classic VH at its best. Kick ass from start to finish. 'Fools' is actually one of my favorites from this record. It's got a hard-crunching blues rock feel to it. Great song, especially Ed's solo intro to it, not to mention Dave's lyrics. For example, "Well, all the teachers gave up on me. No matter what they say, ha, I disagree. And When I need somethin' to soothe my soul, I listen to too much rock'n roll".
Man, what attitude I tell ya.
"In a Simple Ryhme" is one of VH's greatest songs. It's a lot different than songs from their previous two. Great drum intro by Al to begin the song. The band sounded so kick ass back then.
All in all, a CLASSIC VH album. One of the best.

Great VH album. But, for some reason, I never listen to it. I have yet to figure out why ? Can someone please tell me ?
High points are ...And the cradle will rock, Romeo Delight, In A Simple Rhyme

Love the album, of course. Compared to Fair Warning, though, I think the mix sucks! Ed's guitar tone isn't "Brown" like Fair Warning, and the bass just isn't full enough for my liking (I AM the BASSman, you know).
My wife always sings " I think we're headin' for a whole lotta trouble, if we take our credit cards to town.. chk chk (mimicks the credit card sound). It always makes me laugh. Romeo Delight just romps, Everybody wants some is so Dave,Simple Rhyhme is awesome too. IMO, this is the darkest sounding album of theirs. Fair Warning sounds meaner and more aggressive, but not as dark as WACF. For sure another fav, though.

WACF was probably Daves favorite album. It was about sex and so is Dave.Honestly, those are some lyrics and Dave was speaking from the heart.Opps,I mean from his dirty, sexfilled mind.God I miss him.

It's the blues-iest Van Halen album. I love Dave's vocal on "Take Your Whiskey Home" - especially after the band kicks in. That is one bluesy, whiskey stained, stogie smokin vocal!
Man, I hope they can dig real deep for some of that old soul they used to have... http://208.50.7.95/vhlforum/smilies/smile.gif

One of my favorite VH albums. The only song I'm not crazy about is And The Cradle Will Rock.
