View Full Version : Weird that Mike is doing this tour with Sammy now...

KU and VH forever!!

Knowing that Van Halen is probably going to tour during this same time period. On the surface it seems like a big giant "fuck you" to the VH bros, but it also makes me wonder about other things. Namely, Mona? Sammy has stuck with her through thick and thin and now according to the tour itinerary she is not going to be involved with this tour in the form of playing bass for Sammy. Wasn't that long ago Sam was telling one and all that Mona was the bassist in his band, but now that seems not so cut and dried. Has this become a pissing contest now? That is what it seems. The Eddie Trunk deal kind of made things interesting, but has Mike's pride showing that he is being replaced by a teenager kind of stings a little, which for the most part I agree with him.

Sam said the Wabos would be a part of the set in a recent interview. Hence, making Mona available.

I don't think MA worries too much about all this...

And I'm sure Mona will be involved. It's Mona on the new song in the studio,so Mikey just plays live to help bring in some more fans I would imagine.Plus he likes to play and is Sam's good friend...I would too...:thumb:

It's really not a calculated, emotional thing as some have made it out to be. It's business more than anything. My guess is Mike would like to be a part of the future Van Halen--if there was/is going to be a future Van Halen--but he was tired of waiting around (as he said in numerous interviews) by about 2002 and went out with Sammy for some fun. (Remember how exciting it was to see those two on stage together again back then?!) He was also frustrated at the breakdown of the Roth reunion (as he also said in numerous interviews when citing his drunken fit at Dave during the Sam/Dave tour). Mike and Sam are buds and they enjoy playing and touring together; one could guess their families also enjoy hanging out together. They're actively paying tribute to their respective roles with VH by getting out and playing the tunes. Ed and Al have expressed their discontent with this, but one could say with a confident level of certainly that both Mike and Sam would prefer to be out playing VH songs with VH, provided it was a functional thing. That, however, has been more than difficult now for the past nine-or-so years, so they're doing an excellent alternative.

And so be it.

I guess there was no chance of Mike being part of the rumored upcoming VH tour, and maybe Mike was told that. Because I think if there was a chance he could be on bass for VH, he would not have agreed to hit the road with Sammy at this time.

What is weird to me is I remember a long and (from what I recall) legit thread about Ed and Mike talking after EVH's rehab, and that it went well enough that people thought Mike was back in. Guess not.

Didn't Mike say in a recent interview that he has an "out" clause with Sammy's camp if Van Halen reinstate him for their forthcoming tour.

Mike's just covering all his options, if he's not invited back to Van Halen he's keping busy with Sammy's tour.

I'm sure, given the opportunity, Mike would rather be part of the Van Halen tour, but he's gonna play for the fans regardless.

Actually, it's quite a savvy move on Mike's part, if Ed & Al don't want him to play as The Other Half, all they have to do is invite him back to Van Halen... :thumb:

Imagine that all was fine and well with Mike and the brothers again.

Now imagine Mike doing absolutely nothing all summer.

Or winter.

Or next spring.

Mona is listed on the print ads for the show as a member of the Wabos.

How do you tell Mike 'No' if he's availalble and wants to play????? Impossible.

Nah - Mike is not a Wabo. He plays with Los Tres Gusanos and whatever else. Mike knows he's out of VH, at least for now, so there's no conflict there. He can tour with Sammy all he wants. It's a non-issue. Mona has job security, IMO.

Look at it this way, this fall you can see Sammy and Mike doing Sammy era VH and/or you can go see Dave and the Van Halens play the classics. That's the shit if you ask me. I'll be at the opener for Van Halen. If Sammy adds some dates a little closer, I'll be there too.

OK so in the interview at this link (http://www.vhlinks.com/vbforums/ed-and-al-discussing-wolfgang-a-few-months-ago-t40501.html), the VH brothers say that they dropped Wolfie in b/c Michael simply "didn't show up"..

I have a really hard time understanding this one, when MA has put up with ALL of it through the years, AND was the only TRUE member to show his face at the Hall of Fame Induction. He's shown up for their best AND worst times- so why would he not show up for this gathering? I smell bullshit.

Sammy knows he fucked Mike by dragging him into the Other Half BS.
Now Mikes Screwed, and out of VH.
So know, Sammy the Saint, fires off Mona and puts Mike in?
Is this really what happened? Mona's out?
If thats the case, shouldnt all you SH fans boycott SH shows?

LOL incredible. Whats good for the goose is nto good for the gander.
Someone expound on this Mona out thing.......

Yeah, I mean that DOES seem like BS. Why not tell the truth. Mike and his SH actions pissed me off, and I fired him.
I think he would get more respect for it. I can't argue this point.
Maybe Ed's trying not to badmouth Mike by saying it that way? I dont understand the logic there.
Ed does seem to think the world is stupid and we will believe whatever he says. We have a thing thats called the ineternet now Ed, time to rethink policy and publicity avenues.

As far as I am aware, Mona is still the bassist for the Waboritas. The Mad Anthony Express, Los Tres Gusanos and The Other Half are Mike's deal.

i heard that mike approached ed and al and asked them if they had a problem with him hitting the road with sam for a few shows on sam & dave tour. the said that they would prefer that he didn't for obvious reasons and the next thing you know mike hits the stage anyway. i think that pissed them off and the other half was another kick in the ass they didn't appreciate. this could all be complete bullshit, but that's the scoop i got from someone somewhat in the know. that being said, don't start with all the bullshit comments, all i'd like to know is if anyone else heard something similar.

What sound??? It sucks that Mikey's doing this tour with Sammy but what else is there now?

btw - I'm catching the show if they ever stop around this area again. Can't say the same for the VH shows unfortunately.

I heard that Ed said it was fine, as long as he didn't go on stage with DLR, which he didn't.

Yeah, the whole thing is wrong. Mike said, in the long road to cabo, ed didn't have a problem with him playing with Sammy in 02. He implied though, he couldn't play with Dave.

That would be hippocitical of Ed! Seeing that Eddie is on stage with Dave now, but no MA! MA stated that he would have done it, but was never asked. I think MA going out with Sammy certainly did not help things. From what I heard, MA was not going to be included with the 2004 VH-Sammy tour. Where, I heard, Sammy stated if there was no Mikey there is no Sammy!

This upcoming show would be one of my all time favorites if MA was included. Especially because I have tickets on the Wolfie side, formerly MA's side!

Then why was Mike and Sammy asking Dave to join them on stage? If Mike wasn't allowed by Ed lol to be on stage with Dave why during the tour was Mike trying?

See the truth is out now. Dave was trying to look out for Mike! hehe *joking*

Mike wasn't asking Dave. Just Sammy. Only Sammy. Dave agreed to do it earlier in the tour, but then every night when Sammy asked him if he was ready, he'd always turn him down.

Yeah but Mikey said or Sammy quoted Mike as saying he would jam with Sammy onstage. Sammy mentioned what about the VH Bros and the band. And Mike made the comment what band? Mike was referring to their inactivity at the time.

OK, maybe it's lack of sleep, but I don't see what that has to do with whether or not Mike would play with Dave onstage during that tour.

As far as I know, Mike was playing with Sammy, but would not go onstage with Dave at Ed's request.
