I always thought Vito played the EVH "style" better than anyone. Most people cracked on him for his "EVH Style" playing, I personally thought it was cool that he played with that flavor. What did you guys think.....Did you like it?, Or did it piss you off? I'm not talking about White Lion, just Vito's guitar playing.

I saw White Lion a couple of times, and I thought they were a pretty decent band. I always bought their new cd's when they came out, just because Vito played alot like Ed.

I've heard some relative comparisons between Eddie and some great guitarists. Clapton, Hendrix, Page...so on and so forth. Now I know Bratta is a desciple...but give me a freaking break here.
If he was any good...he'd still be out there....somewhere....
No offense boss...but I'm a bit offended at even the comparison.

Pojo - Wake up!!! There are a ton of fantastic guitarists out there who don't get record deals just because they have an '80's band type style. Its all about following the $$$, and that is a cryin' shame.
All I know for sure is that people are dumb.

eddies playing has a definite attitude. its got balls. vito was lacking one thing. that same balls-out attitude. he was like a very "nice" eddie. and eddie isnt cool if he is nice. so neither is vito. yea im high. http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/tongue.gif

Id hate to say it but anyone who ever listened to Whitelion knows that Vito although similar in style to Eddie is a damm good guitar player. Before we judge let us listen to some of his playing he kicks major ass or at least did in Whitelion. I for one loved that band and was sad to see them go away.

Vito Bratta was cool ! A nice sound with his Esp guitars !
I like him a lot ! ... Similar to Eddie , but more sentimantal on the guitar !
I think he was a genius too , but White Lion brake up his fantasy !

I dig his playing; there's no doubt as to who he is influenced by, though...
Vito was a good guitar player, but that singer they had was horrible, IMO. I still listen to their version of Radar Love all the time. That is a groovin tune!! A lot of Ed-like licks, but oh well, I like it anyhoo!!
never really got into white lion.

I also thought Vito played alot like Eddie. He also looked alittle like him.
I never really bought into the cheeseball shredders tryin' to be Eddie. The hair bands. The 'White'-bands...Whitesnake,Great White,White Lion,etc...
Ed is in the Hendrix,Clapton,Jeff Beck,Jimmy Page,Pete Townsend,or Stevie Ray Vaughn class--not Vito Brata,George Lynch,C.C. Deville,or Steve Stevens.

I liked 'em. Sure some of their stuff was a little sappy but Vito seemed to be one of those guys who really cared about being a good player and songwriter. He seemed real down to earth.
I hear latley though that he doesn't even play anymore because he's bummed out that no one seems to care about good guitar playing these days. He feels he spent all his life learning the instrument and now it doesn't matter.

Then with that gift given to him,he needs to start a new band & go with it.Im sure some others gladly would join. This guy is respectable.Peace.

I really liked white lion behind VH they were one of my favourite bands, I know they were a VH copy sort of band but there was more to them than that. When The Children Cry is a classic song. And as for Vito`s playing just check out Blue Monday.I felt Mike Tramp was a good singer and frontman and it is my opinion that he would have been a better choice than Cherone, also his solo CD Capricorn is a cool record. On a lighter note check out the White Lion video Escape from Brooklyn the part where this guy mistakes Vito for EVH is hilarious!

C'mon VT...you're telling me to wake up? Christ...I'm not Eddie or anything, but I've been playing guitar for nearly nine years now. Yes, jerky, I realize that you don't need to make millions of dollars, and be in a supreme band to be considered a great guitar player. But I'm not talking about those mysterious no names...I'm talking about Vito Bratta....okay, I AM talking about one of those mysterious no names.
I mean c'mon...I saw someone that said Page, Clapton, Beck, and Hendrix are the guitar players that Eddie belongs with in class. Now are you going to tell me it should be Page, Clapton, Beck, Hendrix, Van Halen, and Bratta. Your the one that needs the wake-up call my friend.
Being respectable, and being great are two different things. Let's not forget...Bratta had his fifteen minutes of fame...if he was really that good, he wouldn't have disappeared with White Lion. I mean c'mon...could you see Eddie putting down the guitar and saying, "You know, forget it. I'm not playing anymore because nobody respects the guitar." What would follow that? Kicking, screaming and looking for the wooby?
I'm not a guitar critic, but I do play guitar. Yeah, Bratta could make me look like an imbecile playing...but this incessant babble comparing him to Eddie over the past 11 years is wearing thin.
Christ, Clapton listens to people comparing Eddie and Stevie Ray after him. Eddie has Vito Bratta? Good lord, give me a break...
The fact is...some people may share styles with Eddie...but not the musicians heart that he has...and all the greats have. The fucking playing that makes every inch of your skin move when they play. That playing that makes you want to run the Boston Marathon at a full spring. Listen to White Lion's Wait...with Vito's whiny ass solo. The only thing you'll want to do is curl up in a ball, and put ear pieces in. Okay, I'm exaggerating, but the people that are comparing Ed and Vito are exaggerating a bit as well.
Why don't you compare Vito to Mick Mars or something....

Well I think anyone who plays guitar seiously (as I do) feels like that. I feel I have wasted over 20 years learning something that has no commercial value now. Bloody depressing.

Vito is a great guitar player !
Why David Lee Roth didn't call him for doing his last tour ! ... Vito maybe can do the VH song good as Brad Walsh do ( hey ... think that Brad was cool too ) .

Vito was a great guitar player and White Lion was one of the few 80's Hair Bands that I truly enjoyed. There is certainly a lot of Van Halen in them but they really had some cool stuff to offer I thought. Vito would have been cool with Dave during his solo tours and I think he is a lot better then Brad Walsh personally.

Who is Vito Bratta, and where is he now. White Lion never wrote one song that would last a lifetime. It's not about guitar, or proficiency, or competition. I believe its about SONGWRITING! I mean songs like the Beatles wrote, the Stones, Zep, VAN HALEN, etc, etc, etc. A song that we're all still singing 20+ years later is to me the pinnicle of achievement. It doesn't happen everyday, and it doesn't happen to everyone. But when it does, there is no mistaking it. Anything else is a struggle to get upstream and spawn before its too late.

I always thought White Lion was a 'Van Halen' wannabe type of band. The singer tried to be like Dave sometimes and Vito, I mean, he even looked a bit like a young Eddie. He was a good guitar player though. I saw White Lion open for AC/DC back in 1988. They were okay, I guess.
Wonder where they are now.

Although they did not have staying power because they were virtually a Van Halen cover band in every way, (but who wasn't?), I happened to like a lot of their material. I agree with all your posts. You all have hit this one on the head but don't be fooled. Vito Bratta is an excellent guitar player. You can really throw him in a mix with some of the best shredders of the 80's. Their lead singer was Mike Tramp. Yes he was terrible, but they had a few catchy riffs and great guitar songs. ( "Little Fighter", " Wait", "When the Children Cry", "Hungry Nights.")

Vito Bratta is a great guitarist. He is one of the best.
I don't know why people are comparing Bratta to Eddie Van Halen, though. While Bratta was influenced by Van Halen, his playing style is more similar to George Lynch and Nuno Bettencourt.
White Lion was not a typical hair metal band. Do a little research and you'll find that very few hair metal bands were typical. They all had something different and unique about them.
There were just too many of them. Overkill.

While we are on the subject of awful cheesy 80's hair bands(bastard VH wanna aint never gonna be's),I used to live with my-ex girlfriend(I call her my old gig) and her best friend. Anyhoo, the friend had the worst music collection ever assembled(or at least one of them). She had a few Winger albums and one of 'em had a Jimi Hendrix cover on it--I think "Purple Haze"--she always thought that Winger wrote it--YOWZA!
I think this guy ripped Eddie off bigtime

Vito B. was rumored to be joining DLR when he was first doing the DLR band CD. I don't know if they ever even talked. The rumor probably got started because Vito was always considered an Ed clone.

I thought Vito was a great/respectiable guitar player and would love to see him in a new hard rock band of his own.I agree that he needs to hang out on the edge a bit more though and shave off some of the bubble gum.I thought White Lion was a cool band for their time.Im a 80s head anyway.Come on back Vito lets here you jam again!!!5150!!!

that must be Vibo Brator!
anyway....of course I know he's influenced by EVH, but I think he added something and made it his own style. Brilliant guitar player!!! And for those who didn't like Mike Tramp's vocals, check out the 'Freak of nature' albums. His voice became much better and rougher. great band! I believe the guitar player was Dennis Chick of House of lords fame. that reminds me....does anybody still remember House of Lords with Lanny Cordola on guitars?? another great guitarist with his own style!!

Actually, I'm sure that rumor branched off of the infamous "Red Diamond" rumors. In one version of the story, Vito Bratta was named as the lead guitarist for the mythical Roth/Hagar supergroup.
