I thought I would start a thread that let's us brag about stupid glorified sports moments in our lives...whether it be wiffle ball, backyard football, yard darts, bocce ball....WHATEVER you did great or unbelievable during a time of leisure.
Mine happened about a year ago...at work. During slow periods in the wintertime, or after work, a group of us guys throw rocks at various (usually unattainable) targets in the parking lot. One of my co-workers pointed out a light pole about 300 feet away... up a ramp...and behind a fence. He said ''I'll give you five bucks if you hit any part of that pole, dickhead." I though what the fuck, I'll give it a try....I was a pitcher and a shortstop for many years, so I thought my arm was decent enough to come CLOSE. So, I loosened up my shoulder and elbow to let the rock fly with minimal pain.....Sure enough, when I saw it was on line, it proceeded to knock out the light fixture...it surprised the hell outta me and every witness....and later told the manager it must have been a bird. So I had to try it again...(for double or nothin of course) *DonG*The next one hit the middle of the pole.....by this time we're all in amazement, and my buddy is PISSED....so he's like " if you hit it this time it's all you can drink at the local bar on me tonight" ....figuring the odds are not good at all.. (Think about it, the pole is 2 feet in diameter, about 40 ft. tall, 300 feet away, up a hill, and behind a 10ft fence)..and $10 ahead, there isn't much to lose. Fuckin' right....it barely hits the bottom third of the pole to make it a HAT TRICK! and a free drunken good time that night!!
If you have a good mundane sports achievement, give it a shout out on this thread. I'm hoping to get some insane stories going on here!
Cheers!

I crashed into a 9 year old girl at the Go-Kart track a couple of weeks ago...

(At least it didn't start out with "This one time at band camp...") :thumb:

In 9th grade I won the state hackey sack competition.

6 years ago, I scored even par for 18 holes of golf at pumpkin ridge golf course. 4 bogeys and 4 birdies. I'm much more proud of that one. ;)

Don't know if it qualifies as a sport or as an acheivement but I once was dealt a royal flush in a game of 5-card stud...

Too bad it was a nickel-dime-quarter game...:brickwall :irked: :yell:

Mostly bowling stuff.

300's, 800's, one of six idiots in the history of the ABC to bowl a sanctioned 292 game. Yes that actually is the first 11 strikes and then a 2 count on the last ball.

Won lots tourneys, shit like that.

Speaking of bowling - I once threw a ball right-handed that landed two lanes over! (this is candlepins where the ball is smaller)

If there are records for running slow, I probably hold some of 'em!

HAHA, my dad's had the ball hang up on his thumb and thrown the ball one lane over. That was in league and it counted, so he was a tad embarrassed.

Always wanted to try candele pin, we don't have that here, that's an East Coast thing. I know it's hard, like 110 is like shooting 230.

Recently, I completed a Dog The Bounty Hunter marathon.

A while back, I jumped to the wrong conclusion about VHIII.

I beat a Mustang GT (older, probably 2000-2002) off the line with my GTO the other day.

Great thread here. Back during my college days, my buddies and I would play pick up basketball games regularly. Our day would basically consist of sleeping really late, usually missing our morning classes, occassionally make it to our afternoon classes. About 7pm, we would go the rec center and play full court games for 3-4 hours at a time. Afterwards, we would go to Blockbuster, rent games, and stay up til 3 or 4 am drinking beer and then repeating the same the next day. One day we were playing as we usually do. As you can tell by my sig, I'm a huge Pistons fan and I used to like Rodman when he was "normal". So during one game, I was fighting for this rebound w/another guy. I kept tapping it up and tapping it up until I jumped up and grabbed the rebound-mind you, I'm the embodiment of White Men Can't Jump. One of my buddies yelled to me, "Yea man, just like Dennis Fucking Rodman!!" after I cleared the rebound. I turned to him and said, "Hell yes!!" and then proceeded to throw the pass to a guy on the other team. Du'oh. I also almost got into a fight w/a buddy of mine while we played against each other, as we were both highly competitive and hated to lose. Ah the memories

Damn, I've bowled 6 strikes in a row twice, but that seems kinda minor now. How many 300 games have you bowled?

Only other thing I have is that in the 9th grade I had 13 straight serves in gym class volleyball. I was bad at volleyball - and everything else. I hope my kids are more athletic than me.

Have no idea, maybe 8 or 9 sanctioned 300's if I had to guess. But I've been bowling since I was 7 and did some regional pro touring 8 years ago. Believe me, most pros have 15-20 300's at least.

Great topic. My favourite is playing Cricket quite a few years ago I hit 3 sixes in 5 balls (for those uninitiated, a six is the equivalent of a home run in baseball ie you hit the ball out of the park).
My innings went like this:
First Ball: Six
Second Ball: Missed (no score)
Third Ball: Six
Fourth Ball: Six
Fifth Ball: Out (caught on the boudary - would've been a six if it wasn't caught).
The score sheet next to my name showed the figures: 6,6,6  I should've got it framed.

I can't seem to reach that magical 300 mark,298 is so close. ;)

ShutUpAndPlay....you are lucky I taught you how to throw, you little fucker!:D
Well, let's see.....back in the day in Platteville WI. My older bro and I used to use the house as the backstop for baseball practice in the backyard...we broke the basement window around 6 times and several pieces of the slate siding. My uncle who was a contractor was over several times that summer to fix it all...the next summer we did it again and my Dad got pissed and we moved to a different place in P-ville.
In T-ball I had an unassisted double play when I was the shortstop. The ball was hit to me at short, and I touched 2nd and ran to 1st to get the guy out. I didn't think our first-baseman would catch the ball.
In the 3rd year of majors in Platteville Little League I only struck out 2 times all year, and as a pitcher I had several no-hitters..they had limited innings we could pitch, but it was a rule everyone had to follow.
In the P-Ville championship game, I pitched the last inning...I only threw 3 pitches to get 3 outs and we won it all!
Some more great sports moments to come later:)
Great thread bro!

One mundane sports moment I witnessed happened at lunch in high school.
I was by the pop machine getting my daily dose of Pepsi, and since I was already by the machine, my friend said.." hey, grab me a pop too fuckface" so he reached in his pocket to toss 2 quarters over to me....He threw the first one, and it landed in my shirt pocket...threw the second one, and I shit you not, it landed in the coin slot. We tried the rest of the school year to throw a quarter in that fuckin slot...to no avail!!!

Tell the linkers about my outburst at one of your games to bat left handed....just after you hit several homeruns in a row right-handed. (My cheap attempt to see my bro get pitched too!)

Some great stories here....

To me this wasn't mundane...but oh well i will share anyway...some of you might think it was
i play for a "semi-pro" soccer club here in Ohio...i have played for them since i was 12 so i've been part of the club for 12 years now...
every year we have this huge soccer tournament with like 32 teams playing in it...its called the North American Serbian Soccer Tournament teams from all over the states and canada play in it...our team is decent but we have never gone very far in it...so last year we are playing in a quarterfinal match against a far superior team...we are going back and forth sticking close to these guys...the score was 3-3 late in the game...i play fullback (defense) but i like to come forward because i've got some speed...so i've got the ball at mid-field (regulation soccer field 110 yards long)...i notice the goalie is cheating out of his goal 60 yards away...so i launch a shot from 60 yards out and drill it into the top corner of the goal...we win the game 4-3...when i scored i went completely bonkers...just like all those euro soccer freaks...i jumped into my buddies arms who were watching the game from the bleachers...we ended up finishing 3rd...but i have to say it was the greatest day of my life (beating out graduating from college, getting into law school, getting laid for the first time, etc. etc.) the exhiliration...it was the closest i have ever come to feeling like a professional athlete who just won his team the game
In the cosmic scheme of things it didn't mean shit...but fuck that day i felt like a king

On August 9, 1989, while living in Delaware I went to see the Phillies vs the Mets in a "Business Persons' Special" at Veterans Stadium in Philadelphia then drove to Baltimore and caught a night game between the Orioles and Twins at Memorial Stadium.

I was a track freak in high school and college. My best high jump was 6'8", my best long jump was 21' 9 3/4". I was fast but I wasn't very good at sprints. I could run with anyone over the first 50-60, but I tightened up bad down the stretch.

I also had a J.V. football game where I had 129 yards on 12 carries. Unfortunately, only one TD, and we got beat 20-7. I had a 72 yard TD run, but I also had a fumble down by the goal line that eats at me to this day.

Awesome thread.

I tackled Joe Horn once, on Senior Cookout Day in high school. Evidently he was skipping class to be out there, since he's at least a year younger, and I was bare-footed, had the right angle, etc. I hawked his scrawny arse down from about fifteen yards away, Ray Lewis-style. My plump self was proud, and my peeps were impressed. :D

Also, former Chicago Bears corner Donnell Woolford almost whipped my freshman ass once, for stepping on his back during a mini-camp drill. I was skeered, I said it.

Bump!!
I played a pick up game of basketball at the YMCA in Freeport Ill against Jamal Meeks. You Hoosier fans might remember him.
BTW, never guard a guy that just signed for a big-time university and think you can take him.:brickwall

I played in a golf tournament over the weekend. It was a 4 Man Scramble format. Our team won by 3 strokes (we went 8 under) and I had a KP (closest to pin) on the 161 yard Par 3!

I don't think that's too bad for only golfing for the most part since May of this year.
