Hey Redheads...haven't posted here in a LONG LONG time, how is everyone?

What's Sam been up to lately? I haven't heard much, I sure wish he would go back out on tour. I went to a show in MA in like November, and it was one of the greatest shows ever...that man can ROCK (plus I got his autograph! smilies/biggrin.gif )

Haven't listened to 10-13 much lately, but I've been thinkin' about breakin' it back out for a while (I go on listening binges).

Personally, I get the feeling that DLR is coming back to VH soon, and I don't mind it, I love the DLR years, almost as much as the Sam years, but I have to admit that DLR, at this stage, will most likely help them to get back to the top (however fleeting).

Hopefully we'll get to see the Redrocker reunite with the VH boys at the RnR Hall of Fame. Anyone else plan on making the treck to Cleveland when they get inducted? I know I am.

Peace out UFF'ers

Glad to see a new UFF thread up again. smilies/cool.gif Sammy may not be back in Van Halen right now, but if things don't work out with Dave, he could be the backup plan. smilies/wink.gif

The last I heard was that Sammy is taking a few months off to be with his wife and new daughter and continuing to work on new music. smilies/smile.gif

Hello my UFF Brothers
I don't think it matters to most of us if Sammy goes back to VH or not. What we enjoy is the live tours and new music from the man. We will continue to get that whether it is solo Sammy or he reunites with either Montrose or van halen. Both seem equally unlikely. Seems like this whole Van Halen saga is just like a circle. We are no closer to knowing what is going on than we were a year and a half ago. Hopefully Ed is ok,a mans health is the most important thing after all. After that I think it should be Van halens choice as to who or what they want to do. I am sure Roth was brought in because of pressure from the record company.
I don't want to hear music born from a corporate decision. corporate powers are also the ones who would want Sammy back if it doesent work with Dave. I think Van halen would be better to get there own singer whoever they want to make music with. Maybe all of us here at the links wouldn't like it best. But I am pretty sure it is the decision that the brothers and maybe even Mike would prefer. I wouldn't want anyone telling me what to do. I am sure Sammy doesent either. Only Dave wants the reunion to save his career. Have fun UFF and the new home is quite nice.

Alright I named the thread guys after my favorite Sammy solo song. smilies/cool.gif

Plus I think it is fitting since it is a happy thread to be in if you love the Red Rocker! smilies/smile.gif

If you don't like the name... too bad. smilies/wink.gif LOL!

Anyway www.redrocker.com (http://www.redrocker.com) is up again, and no news?! smilies/confused.gif

I was hoping that Sammy said something about Eddie's cancer, of course he could have called him and we wouldn't know about it. smilies/wink.gif

Hey almost everyone is here. smilies/smile.gif

You are right Cabo, after hearing Ten 13 I think most of us will be happy if Sammy stays solo. smilies/cool.gif

I hope that he does return to VH someday though. Because if VH gets back Roth they will play little or no Van Hagar and Sammy was only playing about three VH songs on his tour. My favorite albums will always be the four that Sammy did with VH.

When is Sammy going to tour again? He hasn't toured since January. smilies/confused.gif

Hey guys Neal Schoen, the guitar player from Journey said that he would love to work with Sammy again, according to what I read on a Journey message board.

That would be awesome!!! smilies/cool.gif I love HSAS!

You know what, David Coverdale was answering questions on his message board today, and Journey members were also recently, it's too bad VH doesn't care about there fans as much as those guys. smilies/frown.gif

I didn't really ask Coverdale a question, I just told him how much of a fan I was, and he thanked me, and told me that it was much appreciated. smilies/smile.gif

I did ask him on a chatline a few months ago if he would like to work with Eddie and he said YES! smilies/cool.gif

Well, you know, Sammy in VH or not (still haven't closed the door on that one), at least I have a lot of Sammy's older solo material to pick up still. I just picked up I Never Said Goodbye on Saturday to prepare for the Cinco de Mayo festivities Thursday. It's the ultimate fan connection album...

You've got Sammy, which is, well, Sammy.
You've got Eddie, which connects to VH.
You've got Jesse Harns which connects to DLR.

See, brings the album home to both fan groups without having to have DLR butcher the songs smilies/wink.gif

I believe that's what you call, "deep." smilies/smile.gif

Say, got a question for anyone willing to hazard an answer: Do you think maybe Sammy should collaborate with songwriting more with Jesse Harns?

Of the solo albums I have, the songs he's written or co-written (Back into You, The Message) have been excellent songs. I'm thinking Sammy should probably work with the man on one or two songs each album.

Neil Schon and Sammy Hagar working together again would be awesome. I hope that comes true someday.

Of course, it would have to come between Van Halen albums and tours once Sammy is back in the band. smilies/biggrin.gif

I think Sammy should just write songs himself Stuff, his best songs were written by himself.

I thought you would like that story on We Will Meet Again, I love that song! I think that is Journey's best album ever! smilies/cool.gif

Doing a little research....Jesse Harms has wrote quite a few songs with or for Sammy.

10/13 - "The Message"

RV - "Shag", "Mas Tequila", "Returning of the Wish"

MTM - "Who Has the Right?", "Would you do it for free", "Kama", "Both Sides Now"

INSG - "Back Into You"

He was also on the VOA album but not sure if he wrote any on that one.

So in my opinion, Sammy should write at least a few songs with Jesse.

Didn't Jesse Harms also work with David Lee Roth too? I think he at least toured with him once or twice. That's interesting....

Just my opinions on Sammy's collaboration smilies/wink.gif

The Message, Mas Tequilla, Returning of the Wish, Who Has the Right?, Kama, Both Sides Now, and Back into You are all excellent songs. (Shag and Would You Do it for Free? are good, just not AS good smilies/wink.gif).

Of those you have some really deep, touching songs (RofW, WHtR?, Kama).

I'd say it's safe to say that Sammy does some excellent work with anyone, given how well he's worked with Neil Schon, Jesse Harns, and EVH/AVH/MA.

Here's some more info on the Waboritas:

Vic: In 1980, auditioned for and joined a fledgling all-African-American rock/soul band called the Busboys. The band recorded several albums for Arista Records. Then he started his own metal band, Total Eclipse. Once the Busboys broke up, Vic became a much-in-demand session player. But in the spring of '97 he joined Sammy's new band.

Mona: Worked with a variety of artists, including Gene Parsons and cult favorite Wayne Perkins, through whom she met David Lauser. Lauser told her that Sammy had been looking for a bassist. Within minutes of her audition, she landed the job.

I was looking at the liner notes to Marching to Mars, meaning, REALLY looking at them for the first time.

I noticed a couple of cool things I'm sure you all noticed - but I'm going to say them anyway!

First, it seems Sammy's son did some background singing on some of the songs. How cool must it be to work with your dad on a record?

And secondly, shortly after being fired by Van Halen, Sammy still lists Eddie, Alex, and Mike in the "Special Thanks" section.

We could always talk about how I get lambasted for using statistical data to construe that Sammy is just as viable a replacement for Gary as Dave is in the eyes of WB. Then again, I guess I should expect it when I try to shatter the mystique people put around the supposed reuinion that isn't happening - like Roth is going to be the savior of the world or something. I'm beginning to think that people holding out for a new VH/Roth album will have to wait past us getting "Ten14", "Ten15", and "Ten16" too smilies/wink.gif

Anyway, as for my favorite songs off of Arrival, I really enjoy Higher Place, Signs of Life, Loved by You, World Gone Wild, Live and Breathe, Nothin' Comes Close, and Kiss Me Softly. Yes, that's half the album - it's just that damn good.

Heh, personal propaganda, Yankee, but over in my song tournament thread Sammy is getting hammered in the nomination process. Only four songs of his are currently in the top 16:

03. Dreams (11)
05. Aftershock (9)
06. Humans Being (8)
07. 5150 (7)

Of course, given the sliding value scale, someone could go in there and use their votes to boost three more songs into the range. Not naming any names, of course smilies/wink.gif

I hear you on that one, Yankee. I don't want to say there's revisionist history going on here, but I think people are just plain assuming the only fans of 5150-Balance that exist are the handful of us on the board and the people of St. Louis.

Really, though, I think we're at a crucial time and Van Halen needs to think about that. I mentioned in the other active thread in here that a VH fan that was 14 and discovered the band through 5150 is about 29 now. Someone who was 14 when VH1 came out is 37. Obviously the main amount of nostalgia will surround Roth's days in the band - we're coming out of a "'70s Rule!" period in musical rediscovery. Of course, the time for the "'80s Rule!" period is coming soon, and I imagine we'll start hearing a lot more people that grew up on Sammy.

How's that song go again... "Don't stop... believing" smilies/biggrin.gif

I think they are a little strange to talk about Dave being back in the band everyday, when Dave has said himself he hasn't done anything with them in almost a year! smilies/eek.gif

I just read a cool new Neal Schon interview guys, it looks like there may be a HSAS II in the near future! smilies/smile.gif

Here's what he had to say....

Another guy I know you're a bit of a friend of and I'm a big, big fan of and one day I'll get a chance to speak to is Sammy Hagar.
Yeah. Actually I just spoke to Sammy.

Oh did you really?
Yeah, and so I talked to him about...I'm going to be going over to his house in the next few weeks. I'm going to go over there and I think him and I are going to sit down and write a few songs.

Fantastic. You two guys have to make a record together.
Well I told him that, you know, the Piranha Blues release we did I said man, he goes, I'm talking to him and he's in Mexico and he said, "What's this record you stuck out Piranha Blues?", and I said, "Man, I played some of it for you" and he didn't seem to like much of it when I played if for him, it was in the rough stages, and he says, "Man, my cousin called me and he says this record just kicks ass", and I said, "Well, yeah, it does kick ass and I would've loved to have you singing on it". Richard Martin did a great job, but I would've loved to have Sammy Hagar, you know?

Yeah, cause you did the HSAS didn't you, that still sounds great today.
Yeah, I know, I love that record.

Oh God, it's so good. Did you get the re-mastered CD?
Yeah, I have the CD.

Oh it's fantastic.
We rehearsed for two weeks, wrote like 20 songs, in two weeks, rehearsed for two weeks, and then went and recorded live, and then we went back into the studio and I added a lot of overdubs on some songs, but basically all the end tracks were live, like all the lead guitar solos, and the bass and drums and vocals.
And then I just enhanced it on some tracks, I put more rhythm guitars, whatever

Yeah, he still is, he's good. I'm sorry I diverse on the subject a bit...Sammy Hagar, what are you going to write with him for, just anything?
Who knows until we get together, it's been a while since him and I sat down and tried to write anything so who knows what it's going to turn out to be, it's going to be very interesting.

Fantastic. I'd love to see you guys do a record.
I'd like to write him a really classic heavy ballad, like a heavy power ballad, something that's just classic though. You know, it's easy to write rock with Sammy, you know, it's so easy for me to write rock and roll with the guy.

Yeah. I like his softer stuff actually, so that'd be good if you could. I like it when Sammy slows down. Have you heard any of the craziness of what Van Halen are up to?
I haven't heard anything and I have no idea. I'm just like whatever man, I can't tell what's up.

I don't know. Technically I'd say he is eligible now (not sure when his first solo album was, but it had to have been at least 1976).

If he does make it in, it certainly won't be because he's had a large string of hit singles and platinum albums. It would have to be for his longevity, work ethic, and contributions to music as a whole in his other endeavors as well.

I think he should be CONSIDERED for it, but I somehow doubt he'll make it in for his solo work.

Yankee, unless you start yourself a grass-roots movement and import some rabid Sammy fans from another location, it looks like your favorite song (WCTBL) is about to go down into a hole in the voting it can never recover from smilies/frown.gif

Actually, looks like this round is tough on Sammy in general. Without revealing voting totals, let's just say things are tight.

Yup. It's a shame. Maybe if there was a larger number of Sammy supporters on the board between now and Sunday evening some of those totals would change. But based on what I see now, the only guarantee is the winner of Dreams/5150. All the others are either blowaways or too close to call.

Perhaps a better way to do that contest might be to segrate the roth and hagar songs into seperate brackets until the end.

Even if the final vote is skewed by partisanship (which I dont think is THAT big a deal, I think most people vote on the song, not the singer) at least you'll get some feedback as to whos diggin' what by whom

Well I guess a better question then, Yankee, is will Hear About it Later beat 5150? Will anyone vote? If a tree falls on SNM's head and no one is around, does he still have egg on his face?

DOES IT MATTER?

WHY AM I TYPING IN CAPS?

I DON'T KNOW!!!!

Okay, I'm better. RELAPSE. Better smilies/biggrin.gif

Actually, another point is... does a tournament really matter when you know Unchained is going to win? Wouldn't it be more interesting to hold a tournament to find out what song OTHER than Unchained would be picked?

For what it's worth, though, I did draw the names out of a hat and the placements are random. Of course, I don't think I could have planned good drama like MS vs Unchained or Dreams vs 5150. I probably would have put Unchained in a match agaisnt a monster and the Sammy stuff against "weak" songs.

Of course, my definition of weak and someone else's definition of weak are two entirely different things, knowwhatimsaying?

So I spend my weekends away from the message board, right? It's recharge. Too many demands during the week. My favorite Sunday activity is going back to sleep after lunch. Yes, and I'm only 21. But sleep is good, sleep is food for the soul. So is Superman, who, consequently, saved the world twice yesterday while all SNM did was clean his bedroom. Woo. Go me. But where was I, oh yes, weekends. Sometimes do you ever wonder if you spend more time associating with text and pictures on a screen than real people? Scary thing is, not having met these people here, I do associate their avatar with them in my mind. Makes it hard to accept changes, like a bad haircut you know. When I think of Yankee, I immediately see the JuJu Sammy photo. If tomorrow he had a, I don't know, VHL avatar I'd think he had plastic surgery or something.

The point... yes, there has to be a point, doesn't there?

How about...

Man, I bought Standing Hampton Saturday and it rocks!

Yes, that will do just nicely.

Enuff Z Nuff
Bullet Boys

Great White
Quiet Riot
Poison

Who hasn't Sammy colloborated with either in a live one off setting or record? They show him doing a song with Little Feat. Sammy sure does get around doesn't he. That's got to be pretty exciting for him to work with all these people whenever he wants to.

Just off the top of my head without any of his bands.....

Meatloaf
Little Feat
Jerry Cantrell
Melissa Ethridge
Roy Rogers
Alice Cooper
John Entwistle
Jason Bonham
Damon Johnson

Bootsy Collins
Matt Sorum
Mickey Hart

Nah, MikeL, I'd say often it's the other way around.

Let's see... I own and enjoy every VH album, including VH3.

I own and enjoy every DLR solo album.

I own and enjoy most of the Sammy solo albums that are still in print.

I'm seriously considering listening to some Extreme as well.

I like rock and pop from the '80s to today (minus the rap and country). My parents raised me on pop and folk rock from the '50s-'70s, and to this day I find myself enjoying a lot of that.

I like classical, swing, and big band era orchestral music.

I enjoy new age mood music and medival-styled music.

I'd say I'm not missing out on anything. As opposed to a lot of those DLR worshippers that refuse to own anything newer than 1984 and immediately knock just about anything that doesn't fit into the old school late '70s hard rock sound.

I just know Sammy is the best thing for VH past and present, and that's the road Eddie needs to explore now.

Sorry, Stuff. Maybe I just get the wrong idea from some very pro-Sammy fans' posts. There seems to be so much dislike of DLR, when being a fan isn't about disliking some other artist. So many just plan bad facts and misconceptions too.

I've always enjoyed Sammy. Been to see every Sammy tour since '95. I've still got the tickets from the first show of the RV tour that he cancelled because the show didn't sell. I never bothered to turn them in for a refund.

Will Sam be back in VH? He's always said he's happy where he is, and just wants to play the songs live with VH at some events in the future. He's never wanted back.

Y'all seem to take a lot of joy in the fact that so many of us are disappointed in the fizzling DLR reunion. It's glee that shows in so many posts. It just baffles me that you guys can be so happy at other people's misfortune.

There are a lot of DLR fans who seemed to get a kick out of Sammy's misfortunes. They say how great it is that Sam is not in VH. I don't have any dislike of Dave, he is my second favorite singer. The things I that annoy me about him though is he forgets the lyrics to songs in some concerts I have of him. Especially the US Festival. smilies/mad.gif He has too many covers solo and with VH. eg. CFTH, Diver Down. His singing isn't very good and DLR Band compared to his other albums. But I love his voice on every other album he did, and his lyrics as well. smilies/smile.gif

I have every album Dave did and a bunch of bootlegs of him solo and with VH. Solo he is in my top three bands, I always post that when there is a favorite band thread here.

Yankee Rose is my favorite song, and my second favorite band would be the Yankee Rose band, because besides Dave being in it, Steve Vai is my favorite guitar player and Billy Sheehan is my favorite bass player! I just bought tickets to see them on the G3 tour and they cost a lot of money! smilies/frown.gif

Will Sam be back in VH? He's always said he's happy where he is, and just wants to play the songs live with VH at some events in the future. He's never wanted back.

That isn't true. Sammy used to say all of the time that he didn't want to leave VH, and he wanted to be back in VH. It was only around when he started recording the Ten 13 album that I remember him saying that he was really happy solo. He also said in order for him to re-join VH, he would have to be friends with the band again. I believe the fact that Ten 13 is such a incredible album and that it had mediocre sales is good motivation for Sammy's return to Van Halen.

Y'all seem to take a lot of joy in the fact that so many of us are disappointed in the fizzling DLR reunion. It's glee that shows in so many posts. Also, it comes from all Roth fans tell me that I didn't know what I was talking about when I posted that the Roth/VH reunion isn't a sure thing yet. smilies/mad.gif

I remember what you posted to me MikeL in Main. I said that Dave could have been kicked out of VH again months ago and we wouldn't have known it. First of all, I had said that Dave had definately reunited with VH. As it turned out, I was right. Unfortunately, it obviously didn't work out.

Second, Sammy has always said that he didn't want to leave, but that once he did he didn't want back in. You can find that in statements going all the way back until '97.

You don't like the way some people act, so you decide to act just like them and then be proud of it? That's great, man. Just great. At least Sam has the class not to act like that.

Why is anyone saying something bad about Sam an afront to you? You're aren't Sam; you're just someone who likes his music.

Payback is a bitch, you know? Let me tell you something, something you guys probably don't pick up on but is something I'm sure Yankee and bigdog and people like strungout and vh3fan who don't come around much anymore can verify.

Over the past year, ESPECIALLY the past few months, us Sammy fans have felt like we weren't welcome or wanted around here. Kind of like Jews in the middle of a PLO pep rally, you dig? That's no knock on people like MikeL and Goo and, well, MOST of the people on this board. It's just there are some mindless Dave worshippers (FORD and BS2K to name a couple) that see fit to give Sam hell of the music he makes and us hell for the kind of music we like.

Before the EUAS Cult caved in on itself we would have semi-regular throw downs around here. Not because we started anything or threatened them (okay, so the one time someone tried to steal their 1,000th post was blatant). Just because they were making it plain and evident that our brand of Van Halen isn't really Van Halen and that we should get the hell out of here and find a pro-Sam board because our views don't float around here.

You get tired being walked all over and expected not to walk back.

Thank god most of them are stinking up the DLR Army and PD sites these days. But you know what they say - one bad apple spoils the bunch. And there are far too many hostile DLR fans that have cropped up here over the past 15 months for me to ignore them.

And so now it seems they feel lost, forsaken, and generally shat upon. I'd shed a tear, but honestly, it's frickin' great to see what goes around come around. I never pinned all my VH hopes on DLR from the beginning, and I don't see this as the death of the band. Their mainstream appeal may be gone, but when was the last time they had that? 1995? 1991?

I'm sorry if lots of people are put off by the events of the past few weeks, but I for one am glad all this DLR crap is out of the way. It'll let the band focus on moving forward with music and albums, not getting pulled into the past while pretending it's still 1984 and everybody is happy with everybody else.

So I say rock on Eddie. If you don't want to work with a pretentous has-been like DLR, don't do it. Do what you always said you wanted to do and do your own thing. Your happiness is more important than the people on this board having anything else to pick apart. I know I'll still be here when something new comes down the pipe.

Something else... You know, I'm an optimist, my man. A glori-frickin-fied optimist. I see a light at the end of the tunnel, and that's another VH album sometime in the next couple years that will blow my mind.

With Roth? No. I can say I'm happy Roth isn't in the band and still be an optimist.

I'm optimistic they'll work with Sammy again. I'm optimistic that if they can't they'll find someone they can work with and do their thing. The less people that buy the album, the easier is it for me to get tickets in the front row smilies/wink.gif

So nothing is something, and Van Halen ceasing to be a band is actually a good thing?

06.01.01, 10:47 AM
Well, Stuff, I can understand your frustration to some extent, but let's see what you feel like in 2011 if Van Halen chooses to continue (without Sam) and they have a brief but explosive reunion with Sam in 2006 and in 2010 the rumours of Sam working with Van Halen again start up in earnest but you still get no word out of the band for a year! It's been frustrating for a lot of Dave fans for the past 16 years and to keep having a carrot of hope dangled in our face doesn't make it any better. And some people let their frustration out in ways that aren't always nice. I would count some among your ranks to have the attitude that seems to be prevailing but I never would have counted yourself as one of them.

The only thing that seems apparant in VH land at the moment is we wont be hearing any new music for a LONG time - which actually makes me quite sad, regardless of the singer..

Not at all gleeful, which, as Mikes pointed out - seems to be the prevailing mood here.

While theres ample evidence to suggest a Roth reunion isnt gonna happen any time soon - probably ever - theres still NOTHING to suggest Sams back either.

Now then. read this slowly guys...

This is NOT GOOD NEWS for VH fans.

Good ole Balanced is a regular at Waboritaville, and it's good to see him over here.

I can feel what Stuff is saying he hit it right on the head.

I in no way think VH is done. They will be back with a new album, it may not be as soon as we all like, but they will be back. With Sammy, don't know, with DLR, doubt it, with a fourth singer, maybe. But they will be back. smilies/wink.gif

While theres ample evidence to suggest a Roth reunion isnt gonna happen any time soon - probably ever - theres still NOTHING to suggest Sams back either.

Now then. read this slowly guys...

This is NOT GOOD NEWS for VH fans.

Does this make any sense?

Are we still filled with joy?

Now can you see the source of the frustration exprssed by MikeL, and now myself?<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>Hey, i'm not sure who you are talking to in that post. But I am not happy that Roth isn't in VH. smilies/frown.gif I was looking forward to a new VH album and tour with him!

But if you expect me to feel sorry for all the DLR fans, LOL! Get real. smilies/biggrin.gif

If it was Sammy instead of Dave that was rumoured back in VH and it didn't work out. The Roth fans would have i'm sure, had topics all over the place saying how great it was that Sammy was out of the band again.

No UFF did anything like that as far as I know. smilies/smile.gif

I believe that Van Halen will be back, either with Sammy or singer #4. smilies/cool.gif

well i thought i'd jump in here. i usually don't post in multi- page forums but what you guys said compelled me to post. first i don't take any pleasure in DAVE not being in VH
although i knew it wouldn't last. i think VH should just retire and quit playing musical frontmen. my biggest problem with DAVE is it appears that any whiff of trouble in the VH camp he comes running. when i came here it was over run with DAVE freaks and me favoring SAMMY it was fun to crack on each others singers. i hate to toot my own horn but i thought that the DAVE
fans should go start there own site and they filtered to the ARMY. i wouldn't go there if you payed me. then just
recently with DAVE doing some shows everybody was acting like the BEATLES just reunited. i feel bad for the DAVE fans because it has been so long since they made an album together. i really feel they won't make any albums with DAVE or anyone for that matter.
if SAM does come back he should try to get a multi album deal with VH so it doen't look like a desperate attempt to cash in.
i feel that the brothers really screwed SAM over. DAVE seems to do it to himself.

You know, MikeL, I don't have control over who gets payed back. I'm not EVH (but believe me, if I was... hmm, nah, not going there, I don't know what I'd do if I was him).

I just figure, screw it. This isn't the last day of Van Halen. Ed and Al and Mike are musicians, that's their life. They'll play until their hands fall off or they start sleeping in a pine box. I'm no Eddie sheep - bad music is bad music. I'm just a lot easier to please than some of the people around here are.

Honestly, given the bad blood and recent history, can you really say you expected a reunion to happen or last?

Maybe they'll never play with Sammy again. Well, I have four albums and 11 years of outstanding, A+ music from their previous collaboration, and that isn't going anywhere. It's 2001, I've lived without new VH for 3 years now. Yes I'll be upset if this was it, but there are other things to listen to out there and hundreds of boots to reminisce to.

Life is hardly over for Dave and Sammy fans.

I listened to HSAS, I Never Said Goodbye, Marching To Mars, Red Voodoo and Ten 13 today! smilies/smile.gif

1) Ten 13

2) HSAS

3) I Never Said Goodbye

4) Marching To Mars

5) Red Voodoo

i would just like to say my problem with UFF and EAUS is why don't you guys just do private messaging? it seems like an exculsive clique that only certain people are allowed to hang out at. when someone outside the circle comes you kinda ignore them. i just don't get the gang mentality. that being said SAMMY should only come back if ED and AL apologize.

<BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Stuff No More:
Payback is a bitch, you know? Let me tell you something, something you guys probably don't pick up on but is something I'm sure Yankee and bigdog and people like strungout and vh3fan who don't come around much anymore can verify.

Over the past year, ESPECIALLY the past few months, us Sammy fans have felt like we weren't welcome or wanted around here. Kind of like Jews in the middle of a PLO pep rally, you dig? <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

No. Not at all. I'm of the opinion that Jews in the middle of a PLO rally might have it tougher than a group of guys who prefer Sammy Hagar to David Lee Roth at a Van Halen discussion forum. LOL.

Just because Sam takes a beating that shouldn't mean his fans should take it to heart. Duke it out, argue your points. The past few months (actually, in a few months it will be a year if you think about it) EUAS hasn't been here at VHForums.

You guys should have had the run of the place, really. But, as you said, people left. EUAS went to the army, UFF went to bigdog's site and/or others, if they exist.

<BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR> That's no knock on people like MikeL and Goo and, well, MOST of the people on this board. It's just there are some mindless Dave worshippers (FORD and BS2K to name a couple) that see fit to give Sam hell of the music he makes and us hell for the kind of music we like. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

I'll give you BS, but Ford's not mindless. Leftist, no doubt. smilies/biggrin.gif But not mindless. Ford's actually given Sam more credit than most Dave fans. I don't exactly know what your specific beef is with him, so I can't speak to that.

DLR fans have a strong argument as to what constitutes "Van Halen," in their opinion. Dave was the original singer, and the music and lyrics changed a lot when he left in '85. Everything after could be seen as either Van Halen or something less. Most Dave fans see it as something less. I don't.

Although Sam-era VH is a lesser entity than Dave-era VH, for sure. smilies/wink.gif

<BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR> Before the EUAS Cult caved in on itself we would have semi-regular throw downs around here. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

Anyone who told me to leave, I'd just tell them to fuck off and proceed to lay waste to their stupid ass.

But that's just me.

Other than BS2K, who has told you guys to go to a pro-Sammy board? I'm not saying no one has, just that I haven't seen it.

Actually, DIF, my beef with FORD is you either agree wholeheartedly with FORD or you're

1) Wrong
2) Ignorant
3) A sheep

THAT's my beef with him.

-------------------------------------------

Topik, sorry if we ever come off as "exclusive," because we're definitely anything but that. And, no, we don't really private message, what you see here is what you get as far as UFF presence on this board. Sometimes if we "ignore" someone it's just because multiple conversations can break out on occasion - like right now - and it isn't always easy to respond to everyone at once.

-------------------------------------------

I was inspired last night to sit down with Photoshop for an hour last night and came up with what I like to call "Van Halen 2002." Of course I'll share it in here, because, well, it wouldn't be appreciated as much elsewhere smilies/wink.gif

But who's told you guys to go to a pro-Sammy board? I just don't see how you guys would feel unwelcome here.

DIF, it ain't so much that people are going out and saying, "GET OUTTA OUR FORUMS!" But sometimes your mood, your choice of words, your attitude can speak more emphatically than saying something outright.

Like I said, it isn't the mods that are behind it all, and most people on the board don't rub me wrong. I wish I could name names better, but you have to trust me, DIF. Spend a month as a Hagar fan and you'll understand.

The truth that stands out is a lot of the old Sammy people from this board did leave. And I doubt MARD left just because you had a beef with him smilies/wink.gif We're an endangered species and hunting season was never called. We may be the only organized group, but the unorganized swarm still wins out from sheer numbers.

THAT SAID, it's nice to see a new face come over from the SHND. It would be cool if all those people would come over here and try to help balance (no pun intended) things a bit more here.

Well... I hate this neverending vocalist debate.

I like both Dave and Sam, regardless whatcha all think.

Let's see it this way:

Van Hagar was a musically pretty different era from Van Roth, tho both eras were released under the name Van Halen.

Van Roth was high energy, and that's cool stuff.

Van Hagar was maybe more versatile, melodic, and that's fine with me as well.

I also pretty much enjoy Sammy's solo stuff as well as Dave's. It's just a shame all this material is hardly any available over here. smilies/mad.gif

That's all folks.

Nope, not yet Yankee. Still need to nail down VOA and Three Lock Box to have all his Geffen work.

A couple of random bits:

-------------------------------------------

I was out of town this past weekend for a wedding, and Friday night the group I was with went to Pizza Hut for dinner. We were in there for a couple of hours, and while we were there I heard three Van Halen songs. I'm sure you're dying to know which - Right Now, Why Can't This Be Love, and Dreams smilies/smile.gif

--------------------------------------------

Last night while looking around at www.redrocker.com (http://www.redrocker.com) I cam across a bit of serendipitous information. Unboxed doesn't credit anyone for playing on the two new songs. I've managed to nail down that David Lauser (sp?) was the drummer on those two new tracks.

So, if we assume Sammy sang and did the guitar work, that means we only need to figure out who did the bass.

YankeeRose

Look at these Mine All Mine lyrics and then compare them to the lyrics to Red.

Mine All Mine

Forgive me father, for I have sinned
I've been through hell and back again
I shook hands with the devil
Looked 'im in the eye
Looked like a long lost friend

anything you want, any dirty deeds
He's got everything 'cept what I really need
Keepin' me temporarily satisfied
But not one thing I've tried
Filled me up inside or felt like mine
Mine all mine

Yeah, the search goes on
The more I look, my world keeps gettin' smaller
Staring at the sun, searchin' for the light
Almost ended up blind

Some only see what they wanna see
Claiming victory, oh but that's not me
Gimme truth, gimme somethin' real
I just wanna feel like it's mine all mine

Mine all mine

All the words on the wall look the same in the mirror

RED

I've read it all, it's black and white
The spectrum made a shade I like.
The crimson rays are ruby bright
Technicolor light.
Red! I want red, there's no substitute for red.
Red! Paint it red, green ain't mean compared to red.
You don't know what it does to me,
My crimson intensity
I'm haunted by the mystery,
The mystey of red.
Red knocks 'em dead,
Some like it hot, I like it read.
Red is my lover, got it covered
Red is my number, sure as a coma
Red is my drummer, and I hear red thunder
Move over brother,
Red's a motherfu...(cker)
(Red! Red!)
Thats' what I said...
(Red! Red!)
Come on to bed
(Red! Red!)
Gimme' that expensive spread..

The lyrics to Red don't have a point to them besides that it's a cool colour. smilies/redface.gif LOL!

The lyrics to Mine All Mine are about being yourself, saying no to drugs, being your own best friend etc. smilies/cool.gif

How do you get all that out of Mine All Mine, Yankee? It's just about organized religion.

Red is a typical Sammy tune from his early days. Very simple.

Well MikeL, the saying no to drugs lines are...

anything you want, any dirty deeds
He's got everything 'cept what I really need
Keepin' me temporarily satisfied
But not one thing I've tried
Filled me up inside or felt like mine
Mine all mine

What I believe Sammy is talking about is a dealer when he says keepin' me temporary satisfied.

Stop lookin' out, start lookin' in
Be your own best friend

I believe Sammy is saying be yourself with those lines.

Plus Sammy says that is what the song is about in the Toronto Balance show. LOL! smilies/wink.gif

I was right about it being about saying no to drugs!

Sammy is such a great songwriter!!! smilies/cool.gif

I s'ppose Red is okay as a song. It's kind of just out there. Not too deep, but then again not all the songs need to be real deep, you know?

As for Mine All Mine, I always thought it was telling you to be self-sufficient and not expect some higher power to solve all your problems. Of course I'm not Sammy, and who am I to say what the song is about smilies/smile.gif

Stop looking outside of the self for answers that come from within it. IE, don't use someone else's beliefs to answer your questions.

Sammy says a lot of shit in concert about all sorts of things. Not many of them are relevant to the song he's about to sing... smilies/smile.gif

As for the VHE, what gives them any credibility as to the meaning of a song?

You can have this song be about whatever you like it to be. It seems very plain to me that Sammy is using the language in ways he rarely does--skillfuly to describe organized religion. Drugs? Nope. That's a no-go for this tune. Hell, Sammy probably wrote it while high.

I've never heard anything about Sammy going to College Dan.

I know that Sammy's dream for years was to be a pro Boxer like his Dad was, but his Mom was strongly against him becoming one, he did do some amateur boxing as a teenager though. I've seen the inside of Sammy's house on a show, and he has a heavy bag in a room with a T.V. in it.

I think he hits the bag while watching fights, kind of like what Rocky did in Rocky IV.LOL! smilies/cool.gif That is so cool! smilies/smile.gif

Exactly. If I hated Sammy, I would have said "Take All the Van Hagar albums off the racks and leave them out of print". Obviously if I'm suggesting an album that contains the best of 5150 and OU812, it means I would buy such a CD.

How many scenes can you jump to usually, can you record DVD to VHS on it?

billy007
06.27.01, 06:08 PM
I never liked tape so the DVD was a natural for me, just as the CD was years before. Don't have any concerts yet - hoping the U2 ones get put on DVD - do have "Rattle And Hum". None of my DVDs so far allow different camera angles, but they're cool anyway. "Yellow Submarine" has a feature that just allows you to play the music in the film. I use my "Best Of Volume 1" as an alternate to the CD as it has some different songs on it that I like ("Finish What Ya Started" and "Runaround" and shhhh..."Not Enough").

billy007
06.27.01, 06:12 PM
Oh, and depending on how you connect it, you can record onto a VHS - there have been a couple of DVDs that we rented that needed to go back but we hadn't finished so I popped 'em in and recorded the rest onto VHS. I don't have it setup right to do that now, however, as I have it going straight into the TV instead of the VCR first. And another great thing is the scene selection - a 2 hour film might be broken up into 24 scenes, so if you get interupted or tired, you can go right back to the scene where you were. Only drawback is you can't program a scene like you can program a track on a CD (at least on my DVD player) so if I just want to play "Where The Streets Have No Name" I have to be prepared to stop it when it goes to the next scene.

I have the following live shows on DVD:

Van Halen Live: Right Here, Right Now

Queen We Will Rock You

Led Zeppelin The Song Remains The Same

Neither of those have multiple camera angles, unfortunately. smilies/frown.gif
But at least the Queen one has Dolby Digital 5.1 sound. Very useful if you call a Dolby Digital/dts receiver your own, like I do. smilies/biggrin.gif

I also have the following music DVD's:

Van Halen Video Hits, Volume I

Freddie Mercury The Video Collection

Freddie Mercury The Untold Story

As far as for copying DVD's on video tape:

Usually DVD's have the same copy protection as VHS tapes, called "Macrovision". But, as for any protection, there's certain ways to get around it.

For example, I can turn off "Macrovision" in my DVD player's menu (nice side-effect of the fact that I changed some bits of the DVD player to get it code-free smilies/wink.gif ).

But, there are also decoders for "Macrovision", to put in between the DVD player and the VCR, or a VCR and a 2nd VCR, to get around the protection. I used to call such a decoder my own before I bought a DVD player.

So, if ya have any more questions, feel free to ask me. smilies/smile.gif
