Cool to see Ed with his 5150 Kramer!

what are the back ground vocals, between "ain't gonna kill ya" and "she put the cream in my coffee"?

"Bacon, eggs, shower, shave, will do"

The most cohesive playing of Ed's that I've seen from the whole tour...

Weird.

I've seen and heard a lot of instances where he played UFB just fine. Obviously Ed had other issues, but perhaps he has gotten a bit tired of the older songs and just messed around on them?

I also wonder if playing a guitar that didn't have that annoying sustainer built in made him hunker down a bit more...

Yes, that must be it.
All this raging alcoholic bullshit is just that....bullshit.
Alcohol, Cancer, Divorce and whatever obstacles Eddie has faced are nothing compared with the burden of playing without an annoying bulit in sustainer.
Why didn't we see this before?

The alcoholism is to be assumed, and wouldn't you agree that Ed would play a little better if he didn't flip the switch for the sustainer at the end of every other measure then come in late on the next one?

ahh the red Kramer....That is the Eddie that I know.
Why the man refuses to play that guitar for the entire show is beyond me.
Its his trademark.

I don't know what lyrics are worse, pour some sugar on me Up For Breakfast.

Oh yeah, but, shit, i mean, that goes without saying.
That whole, every other measure stuff, absolutely.
And the lemon wedges.

Was that the old 5150 Kramer or the new(in '04) Charvel Jackson?

Hi Raoul... I'm Will and I've listened to Edward Van Halen play like Jesus fucking Christ live when he could barely stand up. In fact, truth be told, none of us have ever probably seen him play sober.

EVH is apparently by all accounts a raving drunk who has cornered himself in to a miserable paranoid oblivion, but his playing in '04 was awful and I think it was more than just the grape.

That sustainer pissed me off all night long (and in most of the bootlegs I've watched or listened to) and most of his fucked up playing occured when he turned it on and started wandering around jacking off.

It was nice to hear him play a guitar in this clip that makes him actually work.

Thanks.

Ok, i let my sarcasm get the best of me from time to time.

Let me ask you, why would Ed choose not to use a wireless. It seems to me he has enough trouble staying upright without the hassle of 50 ft. or so of cord trying to trip you up.
There can't be that much of a sound difference is there?

Wireless is not cool anymore ;)

He was complaining about wireless as far back as '86... That it really lopped off a lot of mids... He had some EQ to compensate... I think he found a Sony that he made peace with, but always resented having to use one..

In fact I think one of the nights filming for LWAN was ruined by issues with his wireless.

So when he started his "self-realized" state of VHIII, he threw it away and used a cord.

Personally, I prefer his prior tone to what he had on the '04 tour, wireless or not.

I really think the Eventide was a signature element to his playing.

The old 5150 with a new Charvel neck.

There's a ton of difference between using a wireless and a cord, you lose a ton of tone and frequency with a wireless, I don't care how expensive it is. That's just a fact, and it is noticeable if you've ever played with both. Ed's tone is different because he's using a lot of different things now in his rig, not because he switched to a cord. If anything, had he left everything the same and went to the cord, he'd have sounded better.

Agreed... This is pretty much what he did on the III tour and he sounded great.

"Bacon, eggs, shower, shave, will do"

Thanks...that's bothered me since I've first heard this song.
