And noone replies??
I think it's pretty sad, when a brilliant career end up like this. I hope Mike will finally cope with all his memories and what he had to live through and will start enjoying life once again.

Tyson:
"'When I got in trouble in that New York hotel (in a 2003 scuffle), I just prayed, ‘Let me get locked up with the Arian brothers in the Midwest or the gang-bangers in the West.' I don't want to get locked up in New York.''
Nice. :drunk:

I like to play the boxing games and I've watched a fight here and
there... But not enough to call myself a real fan.

I am a boxing fan. It just seems that there isnt much to get excited about these days.
I actually feel sorry for Tyson, I am not excusing him for his past actions. I just think the guy has been jerked around most of his life and really doesnt know how to act, add depression, fame and millions of dollars and you get a pretty fucked up adult. He really has no family and doesnt know who is his true friend and who is his friend because he is Mike Tyson.

Yeah, I miss the Leonard, Hearns, Hagler, Duran days myself. It's been dull for a long time now.

Another sad story in the world of boxing. Tyson has been washed up for years now and the fight against McBride should prove this.
On a serious boxing note did anyone watch the Hatton v.Tszyu fight?

I didn't see that fight, I just wanted to comment on Tyson. I agree with ya man. This McBride guy is HUGE, and Tyson hasn't handled a guy of that size in a very long time. This fight could get ugly. The last few fights Mike has really been heavy, so I'll be interested to see if he comes in around 230 or not. Either way, he's still gonna have to deal with the wing span of McBride's.
I also miss those days of Duran, Hearns, Leonard, Tyson in his prime, Duran, Chavez. Actually I heard Julio Ceasar Chavez is making a come back! The guy is like 45 I think, but wants to fight again. Right now the Heavyweight division is just awful to watch. I haven't watched a good heavyweight bout in years. Benard Hopkins is my favorite figher, and I pretty much stick to middleweights and light heavyweights. That's were the good bouts are anyways.

That a 5'10", 40 year old guy with short arms is fighting someone who is 8 inches taller than him and probably 10 years younger is incredible.
Same thing with Lennox Lewis.....that guy wasn't a heavyweight. He's a Superheavyweight who wasn't any good until everyone else his age (Tyson, Holyfield, etc.) slowed down. Garbage French or Canadian titles don't count.....

I couldn't watch it because of my schedule, but I've heard it was damn brutal. Was it something like that Tszyu asked for a fight to end before the time?

Well, I guess he quit in round six, ruled as a KO, and he says he's retiring. Good.

McBride makes Tyson quit!
By Gary "Digital" Williams at ringside
Hand-picked opponent Kevin McBride stopped former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson in round six Saturday night at the MCI Center in Washington DC. Tyson did not look sharp early on, missing with wide shots. Tyson (50-6-2, 44 KOs) tried chopping down McBride to the body in round four, however McBride (33-4-1, 27 KOs) trapped Tyson on the ropes in round five and did some damage. They went toe-to-toe in round six, and a desperate Tyson started getting dirty. He was deducted two points for a clearly intentional headbutt which cut McBride over the left eye. Iron Mike was also warned by referee Joe Cortez for trying to break McBride's arm. At the end of the round Tyson was pushed to the canvas and struggled to get back to his corner where he quit on his stool. After the fight, Tyson said "I don't think I have it anymore....most likely I'm not going to fight anymore

I've watched it, it's sad. I don't think Mike had much desire to win anyway.
I knew he was going to lose...again. He has tarnished what was a great legacy. What an idiot.

Tyson speaks after loss

Cliché’s are abundant in the vocabulary of boxing enthusiasts. One of the most repeated is that the punch is the last thing to go when referring to an aging fighter. Former undisputed heavyweight champion Mike Tyson has learned that there in nowhere to turn after the punch has left the building as well. 15,432 fans learned as well.
At the post-fight press conference at the MCI Center in Washington DC last night Tyson talked about his inability to halt a fighter that has been the victim of four knockout losses in a career that had been built on second rate opposition.
“I’m not trying to take anything away from Kevin McBride. We know his record; we know his credentials. But if I can’t beat him, I can’t even beat Jill or Joe.” Tyson used that reasoning when he announced that the TKO loss to McBride was his last fight, citing that he doesn’t have the burning fire inside him anymore for the sport he once ruled with an iron fist. “I just don’t have this in my gut anymore,” admitted a once-again humbled Tyson. Tyson continued that he would not fight anymore as to not disrespect the sport of boxing. Tyson apparently did not think about disrespecting the sport in the final round when he admittedly twice attempted to break McBride’s arm in clinches and blatantly delivered a head butt that opened up a cut to the Irishman’s eye. “I was desperate; I wanted to win!”
Although Tyson is still heavily indebted to the government after his recent bankruptcy settlement, he stated that he is planning to travel abroad to pursue missionary work to better himself as a person. “If I get some money I’ll pay them. If I don’t have it I won’t pay. If I get some money I’ll pay these guys.”
Tyson admitted that his career had been essentially over since 1990, when he lost to Buster Douglas in one of the biggest upsets in heavyweight boxing history. “You guys define me as a fighter. You know, I look at my fans and they don’t love me. They don’t know me well enough to love-.they love what I do. I’m a professional- they come to be entertained. I’m an entertainer. They won’t let me into their house; they won’t let me marry or go out with their daughters. I entertain them.” Tyson has entertained us all for many years. Some for the fighter he was, some for the fighter or entertainer he had become.
Kevin McBride, who improved to 33-4 (28), was very respectful to Tyson in the press conference, calling him one of the greatest fighters off all time. “He (Tyson) hits as hard as anyone I’ve been hit by so far,” disclosed the 'The Clones Colossus.
“I’m an Irish warrior. I proved that tonight. I’m not the fastest guy in the world, but I’ve got a big heart. I’m not Muhammad Ali, but I’m Kevin McBride.” McBride continued in declaring his goal to be the first Irish-born heavyweight champion of the world, calling out John Ruiz, Vilali Klitschko and Hasim Rahman. McBride disclosed that much to the disbelief of many, he had commissioned a hypnotist to assist in his preparations. “I heard that they are supposed to make you quack like a duck and bark like a dog.” He fought like a warrior. “Talk the talk and you have to walk the walk and I walked the walk- thank God!”
Laila Ali, still undefeated and still adorned with a plethora of championship belts after knocking out challenger Erin Toughill, spoke of what the future holds for her after the third round stoppage. “The two girls I want to fight are Leatitia Robinson and Ann Wolfe. Wolfe, because she’s a strong girl; she had a good record, she’s been talking a lot of noise and he public wants to see me fight her.”
Weighing several options, her husband and manager Yahya McClain said they would be going overseas to fight.
Lucia Rijker is out of the question. “Women come in all sizes just like men. So, I’m not interested in fighting any more small women. I did it once with Christy Martin. She begged for the fight, she’d been asking for it for a year and a half…I didn’t get much out of it. She was too small. She shouldn’t have been in there with me in the first place. I’m not going to go down in history for fighting these little women. You see what I did to that girl (Toughill)? She’s my size.”

If he let it do till the last round he would have won for sure. Again I don't think he had much desire. He realised he can't knock of his opponent in the 1-2 rounds and just gave it up. Hell, it's better than he'd been bullied later on by more young and furious boxers. 50 victories against 6 loses - that's the way to step into the hall of fame. He was a brilliant boxer in his prime years anyway, and deciding not to ruin the legend is the best way he could go.

Well I pretty much saw this coming. 6'6, 271lbs is just alot of man to go up against. Especially since Mike hasn't been in top shape and years now. I'm glad to see he was humbled and honest with the media after the fight, and this will be it for him. His legacy is tarnished, but in his day he really was a good fighter. I still wouldn't put him up there with Dempsey, Ali, Jack Johnson and Louis because of the competition they went up against. Mike was still a good fighter though.

He fucked up by being put in prison during his peak years.
His legacy is twice as jacked as Jordans and this is in a very sad, sad way.
If Tyson had stayed with his original trainers, he would be mentioned in the same breath as Ali, Marciano, etc. When he first started out, he just didn't win his fights, he annihilated his opponents. His decline started after that fucking criminal, Don King, who shouldn't be allowed within 500 miles of a boxing match, took over his career. What a fucking shame.

Yes, when Cus died things fell apart for Tyson, and then Don King raped him for all the money but Tyson hasn't been a factor in boxing for a long time.
He was a topic of interest for the general public and a sure fire money maker for others but not a serious contender since he was in prison.

If any of you guys have Comcast Sportsnet, make sure you catch Mike Tyson's Behind The Glory. It's a two part story, and it was very good.
And yea, Don raped him pretty damn good. Tyson accounted stated that they were going through some of the documents. And in one instance alone, King had managed to remove 43.1 million dollars from Tyson and put it in his bank account. It's crazy man.
I also agree about his career going downhill after Cus died. But even after that he was still with Kevin Rooney I think. It was only after he left Kevin that things really went south. I think Mike had raped his sister or some shit like that, but they had covered it up. Mike was/is a real fucked up guy. When he's on his meds though he seems very normal and reflective. When he's not, well you know how he is.

Tyson quits to become a missionary
14jun05
MIKE Tyson plans to seek happiness as a missionary after ending his controversial 20-year boxing career.
Tyson retired in Washington DC on Sunday after losing for the third time in his past four fights, quitting after six rounds against Irish journeyman Kevin McBride, a humbling end for a once-mighty undisputed world heavyweight champion.
"I'm basically finished doing this stuff. I'm not going to make a fool out of myself and embarrass myself any more," Tyson said. "It's difficult to fight when your heart isn't in it.
"I don't have anything to fight for any more. When I first started I had nothing. I wanted something. I don't want anything any more."
Tyson was shocked when legend Muhammad Ali surprised him with a locker-room visit before the fight.
"I'm just overwhelmed this man knows my name. I can't believe he knows who I am," Tyson said.
He was hungry when he became the youngest champion in heavyweight history in 1986 at 20, but he lost to 42-1 underdog Buster Douglas in 1990 in Tokyo and a 1992 rape conviction led to three years' jail.
Tyson briefly returned to the top in 1996 but bit Evander Holyfield's ear in the ring during a 1997 title fight and was banned for a year. With no major triumph since, the twice-divorced father of three became bankrupt and beaten.
"At one point I thought life was about acquiring things. But as life goes on we lose more things than we gain," Tyson said. "I have wealthy children. I don't have any money but they have a great life."
Tyson, who turns 39 on June 30, doubts he can ever escape his past while living in the United States.
"I'll never be successful in this country. I have to go somewhere abroad," Tyson said. "I don't think I'm going to do too well in this country because I'm stigmatised.
"I may be bizarre sometimes but I'm a natural. I understand my situation. I don't want to lose to myself. I just want to be a man who is aware of his situations and who is happy."
Tyson said that would come from missionary work, although he gave no clue about his destination once he leaves the US.
"I just want to do something that helps someone. I just want to help somebody," Tyson said. "I have to be contributing to something. If I don't I feel emotionally dead."
Asked about going to Sudan, Tyson said: "The reason African-Americans are slaves in this country is because the Arabs sold us to the Christians. It's a pretty horrific situation.
"I don't know if I'm capable of doing any missionary work without being killed." AFP
