I was trying to list all the concerts Ive seen over the past 14 years when I saw my first concert ( Phil COllins). I thought it would be neat to know who everyone's top 5 were. Mine were in no particular order

G3 - Satch, Vai and Johnson - (cause I was in 9th row)
VH 3 tour - cause they sang Dave era tunes

1) Van Halen 2004 - Montreal, PQ
- I had first row seats for one of the last shows of the tour. Sound was great, soundcheck was great, beer was great, fellow linkers were greater, Mike giving me his pick right in my hand was great, and Eddie giving me his pick while giving me a high-five and giving me a wink at the sametime was the best.

2) Bon Jovi 2003 - Giants Stadium, New Jersey
- 80,000 people, hot summer night, after-party in NYC, a phsycho cab driver and an evening with Bon Jovi. It was awsome.

3) The Rolling Stones 2003 - Montreal, PQ
- It was the Stones, my best friend and I just touring the building, drinking brew and listening/watching them from every angle in the building.

4) Metallica/Limp Bizkit/Linkin Park "Summer Sanitarium 2003" - Montreal, PQ
- I've seen Metallica this year on 2 seperate occassions but just for the day alone this show was worth it. Outdoors, 75,000 people, I was baked in the sun, bruised from moshers, sand-soaked clothes and skin, lots of beer, lots of booty, and a ton of loud music regardless of whether they were good bands or not, it was a really cool day. I went just for Metallica, but got to know a few other bands that I've grown to enjoy, too.

5) Ozzy Osbourne 2001, 2003 - Ottawa, ON
- I was first row in the GA pit for both shows. Both times I saw them, they were different bass players. The first time it was Robert Trujillo (Metallica) and the second time it was Jason Newsetad (Metallica/Viovod). Zakk Wylde blew my mind and the amount of time Ozzy spend on stage the second show (3 hours and 20 mintues) and the Black Sabbath medley were just off the hook.

5) Van Halen 2004 - Toronto, ON
- Probably the best weekend ever. My buddy and I went down to Toronto for the show and as usual with every concert I go to, I like to be at the venue about 2-3 hours ahead of time. We ended up doing so and also snuck into the building at 3 p.m. before anything started. We saw the crew put everything together, light up the amps, pound on the drums, jam out a few riffs ect.. No Van Halen before 8:30 p.m. but it was a pretty cool deal getting kicked out of the building after just sitting for an hour without being noticed. lol On top of sneaking into the building, encounters with Montreal Allouette cheerleaders (another story all together), pubs and cars around the city blasting Van Halen, and the overall buzz, it was of the most memorable shows for the linkers on this tour if not the most talked about, anyway. I'm sure I can speak for Jetguy, EVH_316_5150, Motionblur, spin, Hatch,(maybe Montreal for him, not sure...lol) and Barney on that one.

I could go on with a list of 100 more shows that were awsome to me, but it only say 5...

Hmmm... Rush? No, doesn't ring a bell.
Yeah, Rush are very good about overplaying much of the time,
but sheer quantity of notes doesn't always equal the most 'music'.
Don't get me wrong, I like Rush, but for a band to strip everything
down to acoustics and execute 3 part harmonies (let's see Rush do that),
they way they do, is amazing. Much music.

1. Van Halen 2004 (Washington, D.C.) — Had golden ring tickets. Awesome, awesome experience. Plus, Mikey seemed to have an infatuation with my wife. That was kinda cool. :D

2. AC/DC Stiff Upper Lip Tour 2001 (Charlotte, N.C.) — What else do I have to say?

3. Van Halen 2004 (Greensboro, N.C.) — Had pretty good floor seats. Ranks high because it was the first VH show in 6 years! Anticipation was through the roof in that building.

4. Bon Jovi Bounce Tour 2003 (Washington, D.C.) — Flame me if you will, but these guys rock live. Stage set was killer.

5. Def Leppard Euphoria Tour 2000 (Bristol, Tn.) — Opening act was Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. Had front row seats. Awesome show.

Wasn't Living Colour opening that show?

Nope. GnR. Only time I've seen 'em. They kicked ass. Didn't show up the Stones, but it was a near thing.

Still remember Axl jumping off the stage and running the length of the track all the way around the arena floor. Security shit bricks trying to follow him through the masses.

It rained like a mother for the Stones' set. All the umbrellas and lighters held up beneath them during Angie was a sight to behold. :thumb:

How to pick only 5.

1. Van Halen/Fair Warning Tour - Oakland Coliseum, CA
2. Ozzy Osbourne/Diary of a Madman - SF, CA
3. Scorpions/Crazy World Tour - SF, CA
4. Van Halen/BOBW2 - Sacramento, CA
5. Journey/Escape Tour - SF, CA
6. David Lee Roth/Skyscraper Tour - Reno, NV
7. U2/Pop Mart Tour - Oakland, CA
8. Lynyrd Sknyrd/Vicious Cycle Tour - Reno,NV
9. ZZ Top/Eliminator Tour - Reno, NV
10. Tesla/Into The Now Tour - Reno, NV

Every show I've seen has been awesome but only limited to 5!!! Tough choices!!!! (so I added a few extra!!) Honorable Mentions: Ted Nugent, Rainbow, Pat Travers, Sammy Hagar, Night Ranger, Y&T.

I'm gonna throw in one worst concert since I'm thinkin of concerts here:

1. GnR/Use Your Illusion Tour - Sacto, CA
Lasted all of 15 minutes before somebody threw a bottle at Axl and hit him square-on. Lights came up and that was that after a three hour drive to go see 'em. That sucked big time.

Nice. The ZZ Top Eliminator tour WAS a kick ass outing.

I also have honorable mentions:

Van Halen Hide your Sheep Tour, Great Western Forum
Van Halen BOBW Tour, Staples Center
Rush, Hold Your Fire Tour, Irvine Meadows

My biggest crime, in all of my extensive concert-going history, was never seeing the Police live. :irked:

And of course it goes without saying, the WORST show ever for old Squalen was Monsters of Fucking Rock '88 at the Coliseum.

Wow never saw the PoPo's eh???

Gee that Monsters of Rock must've been one helluva show to be the worst!! Must've been real traumatic to be up there with your worst!! Poor guy. :D
Hope I didn't miss much. I remember driving 400 miles roundtrip to SF, CA to pick up tix for this show since my two faves were playing (VH & Scorps). Took my then 2 year old daughter with me. The drive was a nightmare as it was just me and my daughter. Once we got back I was cleaning the car out and she got a hold of my tix and lost 'em. That really bummed me out after traveling all that way and spending all my dough on tix, not to mention the gas and time it took to drive down there. This of course was before the internet when you can get tix online now. We're so spoiled now!!!

I remember at one of the Day on the Green shows in Oakland, I saw Metallica before they were really known and they were awful. Their sound set up was so loud and distorted it was tough to hear their music. Now that they're so mainstream I don't listen to 'em much anymore, but I really like their old stuff. I can't even remember who the headliner was, I'm thinking it was Journey but I don't remember for sures in my old age. :drunk:

One lesson I've learned over the years, never toke up during a show. I remember mentioning around here about a Sabbath show during which I indulged and spent most of the show trippin out on the lights. I think Tony played pretty good tho. That was during their Mob Rules tour. It was pretty darn good!!! Now I just stick to brews. :thumb:

:sssh: I think we've exchanged Monsters stories in another thead in the past, Smith. Yep, VH and the Scorps, also two of my faves. It was a dream bill, really. Fuck Metallica. THEY'RE the main reason I had such a bad time at Monsters, although there were plenty of other contributing factors. Haven't listened to 'em since. Nobody fucks up a Van Halen outing and continues to receive any further duckets or accolades from moi. :D

And if I never toked up during a show...I woulda missed a lotta shows. It's part of the dealio...flat expensive beer in plastic cups, naked breasteses from overly inebriated and well endowed women, and passing the joint down the row. Oh, and midnight breakfast afterward and ringing ears for three days.

Arena rock is one audacious slutty bitch. I love her anyway.

How did Metallica fuck up Halen, Squal?

You don't remember my spiel? Heh. Think I've related it a few times.

Because James fucking Hetfield fucking called down thirty thousand nosebleed seat holders from their fucking nosebleed seats, who literally overran the fucking yellowjacket security checkpoints and the fucking concentrated pockets of LAPD, turning our fucking two hundred dollar a ticket second row center assigned seats into one big fucking mosh pit.

The crowd was in semi-riot mode on the floor for the rest of the evening. We had little interest in Kingdom Come and Dokken, and were on our way inside, about 1/4 way through Metallica's set (this was back when they were nobody), when it happened.

Of course, some of my party having various drug/sobriety issues beforehand, and walking back to the hotel through Watts and almost getting blown in half via a sawed off shotgun didn't help enhance the memory of that day either. :irked:

Ahh yes, the age old question that someone is brave enough to ask!!!
Run for cover tonight!! :D

My concerts now consist of secondhanding whatever is floating in the air!!! Nothing like the ol' $5.00 beer and a mile long wait!!

Metallica is very overrated as I'm sure you're aware around these parts. I saw them back in the day when they were still an opening act. Was not impressed.

Anyhoo, great stories, eh??
Those were good times, damn good times!!

Ozzy: Retirement Sucks Tour - New years eve, 1996, front row.

Dream Theater: Scenes From A Memory in it's entierty, front row.

AC/DC: Ballbreaker Tour, 96 I think? - Like freebasing rock!

Van Halen: Balance Tour - Not the best VH show, performance wise, but it was an outdoor venue and the biggest blizzard in 10 years. The steps were packed with snow and we were drinking, meeting people and sliding down the isles on our chests, backs or whatever would serve as a sled. It really was like a huge party with Van Halen as the house band. Awsome!

Prince - The greatest entertainer I've ever seen! If you get the chance; go. If you're not a fan, you will be by the end of the night.

In no particular order:

- Santana, 2000 - Saw Santana at a festival and, though I'm not a big fan of the band, this was one of the best concert experiences I've ever had. Great weather, extraordinary musicians, incredible music, and an audience in such a good mood as I had never experienced before and haven't ever since. Probably the best show I've ever been to.
- AC/DC, 2001
- Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band, 2003
- Metallica, 2003
- U2, 2005

Honorable mentions:
- Van Halen, 1998
- Queen + Paul Rodgers, 2005
- The Darkness, 2004

VH - 1996, Balance Tour (1st time around in the Summit/Houston)
Pink Floyd - 1994, Division Bell, Rice Stadium
Robert Plant - 1995?, 29 Palms, Woodlands Pav.
Tesla - 2004, Verizon Theater (5th row center)
Stevie Ray Vaughn - 1986, Holiday Inn in Midland, Tx.
The Fab. T-Birds were listed as the main act w/ "Special Guest" on the tickets. When they went on 1st, we were pretty sure he was the special guest. We were right up front(ballroom, no seats). His set was awesome, and the encore was he and Jimmy playing a doubleneck together. It was one of the most amazing things I've ever witnessed.

Other honorable mentions are:
Ben Harper - 1998
Plant/Page - 1994?
Rush - 2000
VH - 2004 Houston (Eddie's best solo IMO)

I'm sure I'll remember more later.
