Why is it that tickets in the Cincinnati area (Indy and Cleveland this time around) always go on sale later than shows before and after? The same thing happened in '04 for the Columbus and Louisville shows.

And why the hell didn't they figure out what the prices are going to be (especially for the 4 and 5-star tickets that go on sale tomorrow) before they did the press conference? And why are tickets on sale the same week as the announcement? You gotta give people time to get their money together.

They sold out the ACC in 2004 and I think is a bigger event. I don't imagine selling tickets to the Toronto show will be all that difficult. The Press Conference made all the papers this morning. There is a fair amount of buzz out there. They'll do well here, wouldn't be shocked to see a 2nd show. I guess the answer is there is no reason to think otherwise.

Fuck ILAA. Not knowing where you're sitting 'til day of the show sucks donkey balls. Take it from an '04 5 Star. Sure, you could be one of the few lucky ones who draw a good seat, but it's more likely you'll be one of the many who have less than premium position. Plus, it looks like that 'ramp ring' can hold a lotta people. You could pay 500 bucks for 20th row in that circle. Plus, the goodie bag isn't chock-full of prime swag, you gotta show up to the gig hours early, the pre-show party is kinda lame without an open bar and lasts forever and people get impatient, the backstage tour is a cattle call (nope, you won't be hangin' with the band or famous people, you'll be getting rolling eyes and sighs from the roadie crew). The only worthy thing about '04 five stars was the soundcheck, which Ed hated, and they're not doing it this time.

I agree with everything you said although I was very pleased with my seat for Anaheim which was 2nd row isle on Eddie's side. The one soundcheck I saw was easily the best part of both shows combined that I caught for that tour.

Has it been determined that the "pit" is researved seating or GA? I would tend to think that since they're stealing the whole stage layout thing from U2, they'd probably go with U2's idea of GA for the pit as it makes for a better, more energetic crowd right up front than a bunch of people somewhat confined by reserved seating who'll no doubt be sitting on their asses when Wolfgang does his solo.

If the pit is GA, I'd go for a 5 star, if not, I'll probably take my chances on TM or eBay.

If what you mean by 'pit' is the ILAA five star seating inside the ramp, no, it's not GA. It's reserved seating, which means of course folding chairs with numbers.

My five star in Vegas seating-wise was fine....we got center Ed's side second row. My point was, not knowing until the day of, sucked in all the ways it can suck. Moreover, lots of five stars who paid the same amount as we did got 6th, 9th, 10th row, whatever.

Crapshoot.

Fuck ILAA. I'd rather pay a broker more and know precisely where I'm watching the show. TM auctions are definitely an option as well, though even that can be a crapshoot as far which tier and set of seats you'll end up getting depending on your bid.

That's one thing about Ebay and brokers...you know EXACTLY what seats you're getting before you pay. And Ebay does offer some good seats, but RARELY do Ebay sellers offer first, second, third row center, especially for 'event' type reunion concerts like this or the Police.

Again, that's why brokers sometimes are the way to go, depending on how close and center you wanna be.

The lack of soundcheck definitely has me waffling a bit...

I got lucky at the Seattle show in '04 and got 2nd row in the center and basically walked up to the front rail and watched the show from there...

My brother and a couple of buddies of mine didn't wanna pony up the 400 bucks and ended up in the 18th row or so. I guess there was a dude next to my brother that asked him where his ILAA "pass" was and my brother said they didn't buy the tickets through them, they got them off of Ticketbastard and paid the 90 or 100 bucks while these other dudes paid 200 plus... Needless to say, those guys were pretty pissed off...

The only thing that is steering me towards buying the five star is this will probably be the first and last chance I'll have of seeing Al and Ed with Dave... That's assuming the tour lasts till early December...

Van Squalen
08.14.07, 04:27 PM
Also, if it's true that TM won't be offering tix, that Live Nation will be the only official general sales broker, that sucks in two ways. One, it takes away the TM auction option, and two, the Live Nation auctions that I've seen and heard of, don't really offer premium first five rows seating like the TM auctions. Live Nation thinks Orchestra Loge Row 12 is high end product, LOL. :(

I found this article this morning which gives ticket prices for Chicago.

http://leisureblogs.chicagotribune.com/turn_it_up/rock/index.html

Date: August 13, 2007

Van Halen-David Lee Roth reunion leads to first tour in 22 years
The on-again, off-again Van Halen reunion tour with singer David Lee Roth is once again a go. The quartet announced a 25-date North American tour Monday, including Oct. 16 at the Allstate Arena and Oct. 18 at the United Center.

Tickets ($149.50, $79.50 and $59.50) for the Chicago shows go on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday through www.LiveNation.com.

Roth, the Southern California quartet’s original vocalist, has not toured with the band in 22 years. A few attempted reunions went bust, most recently last January. An expected tour announcement was derailed when guitarist Eddie Van Halen entered a rehab clinic for undisclosed reasons in March.

Despite racking up more No. 1 hits on Billboard’s mainstream-rock chart than any band, and releasing two 10-million-selling albums (“Van Halen” in 1978 and “1984” in 1984), the quartet has had a fractious history. After Roth was fired in the mid-‘80s, he was replaced by Sammy Hagar, who parted ways with the band a decade later. Van Halen regrouped to record new music with Roth, only to have that brief reunion dissolve in acrimony. Gary Cherone took over as vocalist, and lasted for one album before being ousted in 1999. Hagar came back aboard for a reunion tour in 2004, and then split again. The lastest twist is that founding bassist Michael Anthony has been given the boot, and Van Halen’s teenage son, Wolfgang, has replaced him.

More internal politics could be read into the four-page press release announcing the tour from the tour promoter and two public-relations firms. The release mentioned neither Hagar nor Anthony, and focused exclusively on the six albums the band recorded with Roth from 1978 to 1984, even though the band subsequently scored nine Top-40 hits with Hagar.

Though the band has not recorded an album of new material since 1998, the renewed ties with Roth are expected to command instant sell-outs along the lines of the current Police reunion. The arena tour with Hagar three years ago brought in more than $54 million.

This will make me sound "Ancient". I first seen VH around 1982 and I paid a ridiculously low price of $9.95 for general admission (where you have to push your way through the crowd) at Freedom Hall in Louisville, Ky. I was 16 years old at the time (Wolfie's age).
Then, when I seen the 5150 tour ticket prices were around $35.00 for seats. That show was stripped down compared to shows of the past.
My point is, INFLATION SUCKS!

Could have sat anywhere in the place or been crushed on the floor but decided to sit dead center in the lower arena because we like the shot in the Panama video where they show that wide shot of "Panama!!" right after "aint no stoppin' now" :D :headbang:

We figured the light show and being able to see it like that would be cooler than being over on a side section up close to them:brickwall

Ya, noticed the tickets are now $159.50 instead of the $199.50 for the most expensive seats.

There will most likely be an auction for tickets on tickemaster. It's become a standard for the site for most of the concerts.

BV--be careful with the auctions--i know someone who attended the 04 show and won the golden ring circle ticket and was disappointed with the amount he spent and the side he got (mikey's side---he wanted EVH side). If the auction goes through, i'll only do it if I know EXACTLY where my seat is! Gonna try the public onsa le too on saturday at 10 a.m. EST as well---if both those options don't work I will (unfortunately) pony up the dough for 1st row tickets through ticket brokers or ebay or craigs list---no way im doing 5 star or 4 star for the $$$ they're asking without a soundcheck. I did the 5 star in Toronto and Hamilton only because of the soundcheck and it rocked!!! No soundcheck---no way!
