wow, no love for SOAD?? i searched and found a 3-year old thread about toxicity, so i thought i would just start a real thread for the band.

while i have never been a huge system fan, i picked up their new album "Mezmerize" and i just have to say WOW. this cd is just awesome! i seriously love this cd... anyone else agree or am i the only one who thinks so?

They're a little too consistently "constipated-heavy" for my taste these days, but I do have Toxicity and I still throw it on every now and then. Two years ago I enjoyed every song on there, but now I skip 3 or 4 songs.

I've just downloaded Toxicity so I can't judge, but IMO Linkin Park is a much better band. I actually don't listen to any nu-metal apart from them, I just don't dig vocals such bands go with. Papa Roach, Puddle of Mud etc.

SOAD is a GREAT band, IMHO. I'm really curious to hear the new stuff...:thumb:

Yes I saw a them a bunch of times when they were just a bar band as well. Opened for Snot (if anyone remembers them, they had one album) at the Troubador. Saw them at the Dragonfly, the Opium Den, the Viper Room. the Whisky, the Roxy, Key Club (it was Billboard Live then), couple other places I just can't remember anymore. Kinda cool to see a band you watched go from a club act to a signed nationwide artist. I bought their first album because shit I had heard their club stuff for so long, I wanted to hear it recorded properly. I dug the first album I think moreso because I knew the songs so well, than I really loved the music. Haven't liked anything they've done since, so I don't really listen to them anymore.

My best friend is Armenian so he followed them, which is why I was always going to see them. Yep Glendale, Burbank, Pasadena, definitely the Armenian capital of the freaking US for sure.

Yes and the Valley which of course where I am from and that's why I have a close friend who is Armenian. :) I listened to part of it at my friend's, I just couldnt' get into it. Even he was having a hard time liking it, and he's still a big fan so I don't know.

Ah yes, Glendale aka "Little Armenia." I didn't know they were from there, it makes a lot of sense--very cool.

I have Toxicity and I thought it was pretty good but the vocals do get annoying. I like BYOB and I think I'll probably buy Mesmerize but the lyrics really turn me off.

I agree about the annoying part, but for some reason the song just pulls you in. That song is what drew me to System if a Down. BYOB is awesome. Stupid, but great? If that makes sense at all. It is one of those songs that make me think of being really drunk!

My brother has all of their CD's and I like most of Toxicity but just can't get into their new song. Just sounds like noise to me.

I totally agree with the noise.

Most of the toxicity album was listenable for me.

The new record is the most melodic thing they've done yet. I love BYOB. Give it about ten spins in a row and it will start to make sense to you. It's definitely not a casual read but WELL worth it...:thumb:

The show tonight was badass, they put on a good concert. They sound great and they have a lot of energy. And the lighting is killer!

You're kidding, you were there at the Long Dump Arena last night?! So was I! I went to the show because a co-worker had an extra ticket.

We could have met up! This is why you should tell me these things! lol

These guys are in my top 5 or so.

Anybody catch them on SNL? I thought they did GREAT.

There are about 20 other songs I'd pick instead of Ariels, but still very cool.

Yeah they replayed it, and I saw it again. I only saw BYOB both times though. Still cool.

These guys are great. I have all their albums. They have such a unique style; it's hard to classify them as one type or another of metal. The vocals are as unique as you'll find in a band today. Serj Tankian could sing in a fucking opera and get away with it.

I also like the parts the guitar player sings, he's a nut.

Daron Malakian's expanded role in the vocals on Mesmerize were great.

"My cock is much bigger than yours!" Solid gold when sung by him! :D

He did that at the show last week. Just him standing at the front of the stage with the spotlight on, it was hilarious!
