This is a disgrace to the Van Halen Legacy..why??? Because DLR only fans claim that DLR IS VH and DLR sells out to make a bluegrass fuck up. Why in the Hagar hell is there a radio version of anything?:wtf: X100.

This has 'Weird Al' written all over it. Imagine what the 'sisters' are gonna think when they hear this. "Gee, Al, maybe we really should call Dave for a reunion now." http://smilies.sofrayt.com/^/aiw/no.gif

Edit: Sirius channel 65 is the Bluegrass channel, so maybe I'll hear some of this. If I ever flip over there.

I think it's cool. I'm not a person who worries about VH's "legacy" so it doesn't bother me a bit when DLR does something like this, puts out a crappy solo effort, or sings with the Pops. I don't care when Sammy lends his name (but not his person) to a cruise, tries to sell me hair spray and cheap sunglasses, or forms a VH cover band.

I'd rather they did any of that, rather than sit in their house all day long.

Your point is taken Mike, but you have to cringe just a lot when it's bluegrass! I have boots from a lot of the VH people...and this is the dead of the crop IMO.

I think it's a strange choice, but DLR wouldn't be the first faded star to make some very strange choices.

I don't know what would make all of us happy. We shit on the guy when he tours with his tribute band, we shit on him when he puts out solo records, and we shit on him when he tries to host a radio show. Half of us would bitch, moan, and cry if he went on tour with VH--and the rest wouldn't even go to the shows!

I'm not someone who thinks we need to be positive about everything. Those people annoy the fuck out of me. I just don't necessarily think it's bad when somebody from the band decides to do something unusual. They're damned unusual people to begin with.

I will at least give this a listen. I am not a bluegrass fan, but I have nothing against the genre, either.

Mark Stone is a sellout! There ya go!:D
Yeah, he was in the Early Years DVD! That damn sellout! :D

I'll give it a listen & reserve judgement until then. At least Dave is releasing something...

Yeah, but Nicolette Larson was not a member of Van Halen.

I'll buy it just to throw it away so I can be certain there's at least one copy that will never be played!!!!!!!

"Strummin' With The Devil"'s release date has been pushed back to 6/6/06. A pretty creative release date, huh?

Should be interesting!

So you would Be Pro VH for rockstar then.. :) (eventhough it won't happen)

Aside from that, I think it's cool. It's at least something different. I would give it a listen before I buy it though. It could turn out to be really gay. Looking at that set list, I just can't picture some of those songs in a blue-grass style, like: Panama, HFT, JUMP, and Eruption for example. To me, when Ed played panama on letterman, that was bad enough. I'm mean it wasn't horrible, just cheesy. On the other hand ICM, could this be magic, jamies crying, and I'll wait might be cool. I think if dave truely wanted to do somehting unique in this vain, he should have chose a complete list of songs that would suite bluegrass better.

Nope. Only because it would infect the forums with more johny-come-latelies than the 2003/2004 reunion news and tour did. I'd have to find someplace new to waste hours upon hours.

It helps understand the choice when you learn that his sister (Lisa) works for the record label releasing this item....

First of all, I think that an album like this (there's also a country tribute to AC/DC out there somewhere) helps solidify the VH legacy. I think that it shows just how much VH has become part of pop culture that an album like this is even getting made. As far as Dave's participation is concerned, is anyone surprised that he is doing something a little off the wall? This is Dave we're talking about people....after Big Bad Bill, Just a Gigolo, i'm Easy etc. I don't think it's so strange that he's adding a little blue grass to his resume.
