That's a cool stage setup, by why the heck is it not more of a VH logo type design, instead of an "s"?!

Jeeze, that's almost the stage from U2's Vertigo tour. The only big difference is the ego ramps form either an "S" or perhaps more appropriately a $ sign.

Interesting stage setup.
I wonder if someone will post some audio from rehearsals. I'd love to hear how they are sounding.

With a stage like that, I think we should expect a wicked DVD after the tour. I think it blows the 2004 stage off the map. That thing was cool but small. It's a wonder that none of them fell off into the rings.

I just hope that they keep it cool, and have a great time, and then do a new album.

Any guesses on waht the big black cube to the right might be?
Maybe becuase Ive been watching the new kiss dvd.
but to me the stage looks like the dynasty tour stage meets U2s last 2 tours.
I think the cube is just EVHs amp wall.
I at least hope they have some cool screen backdrop pics like the 1984 guy etc.

Wonder how many acrobatics Dave will be able to pull off when he goes out towards the audience. Sure that picture isn't drawn to scale, but it doesn't look like it allows a whole lot of room for spin kicks.

here's my post on the no MA or no Dave thread. This sums up my position. Simply put I would strongly prefer Mike to be there and dislike the way this has been handled.
"I love Michael. I think he's more Van Halen than Dave is or Sammy is. It really pisses me off he won't be on this tour and pisses me off more the way Ed and Al (and even Dave) have disrespected him.
But the question asked is kind of insane in my opinion. Dave and Ed and Sam and Ed are the creative elements of this band. The most important member of VH is, and always will be, Eddie Van Halen - that's why we praise him more than the others and rip on him more than the others. The 2nd most important person should be his partner either David or Sammy (depending on what VH you prefer).
Al and Mike are rocks. Both fantastic supporting players. Great at what they do and key elements to the team that is Van Halen. But don't ever confuse role players with superstars.
Always remember that if Mike or even Al doesn't show up at the studio you might not get topshelf material out of the band. If Ed or Dave (in the case of CVH) don't show up - there's no need for a studio at all."

I heard Dave smashes watermelons with a giant mallet all along the ramp so if you have a five star seat you’re probably gonna get soaked.

I don't think it's any more absurd to have Wolfie or another bassist. To me his age isn't the point - he's not Mike. That's the point for me. I wouldn't be any less unhappy if they brought Geddy Lee.
Why support it? I've never seen Ed and Dave on the same stage before. That's the reason.
The biggest issue I have is the way Mike has basically been stepped on in this process. It wouldn't take much for everyone in the "new band" to say nice things about him, he certainly deserves that. If Ed would say "I love Mike and he's a key member in this band's history. I would love to work with him again one day but touring with my son is a dream i couldn't pass up". That's not hard to do.

my point isn' twolf's age...it's the absurdity that he's ed's kid whose never been in a band before. it's one thing playing the tunes with your dad and uncle...it's entirely different stepping out infront of 16,000 people

Who care that he is 16 years old. Obviously plenty of people have confidence Wolfie can pull this off or they wouldn't put him in this situation. What parent wants to see his kid fail or put him in a situation they couldn't handle. I know when Neil Schon joined Santana he was even younger as he was 15, how did that turn out? Neil at the age of 15 handled it well and went on to have a pretty good career. Would we like to have Mike back in a perfect world YES but the world is not perfect especially when it comes to VH. I am excited about seeing Eddie and Dave back together after all these years. With all the problems we know that can and have happened in the past Wolfie may be the least of them.

If you think about it, this style of stage will diminish the impact of Mike's absence. If they go back to a monstrous 1984 style stage then Wolfgang would basically be hung out to dry. This set-up is going to pull some of the focus off of that big empty space that would have been there. I still don't like it. :D
In between reading *once again* the fucking stupid bickering, I went back and looked at the Chinese writing. In short, it's filler. There are radicals missing so trying to grasp what is being said is tough.
The writing is basically the Chinese version of cursive writing in English.
The three things that I can definately make out is "Garden" "Design" and "Tea". I was hoping for a hidden "Fuck Yeah!" or something, but alas, no.
So, my guess is that it's probably filler that the graphics person used in showing the render of the stage.

Much to my surprise, half of the posts in this thread have nothing to do with discussing the stage set-up. Even more shocking, it is has descended into a power play over who owns the authentic Van Halen narrative.
Anyway, I kinda like this stage set-up. If they are trying to do what Dave said in being a new band, it wouldn't really make sense to bring back the 1984 stage, would it? Plus, it isn't 1984 anymore, and that stage, while being one of the coolest in the world at that place and time, is fairly dated.

To be fair, those are Malmsteen's licks.
He's never had good tone, though. It's always been frustrating for me to listen to him. I respect the heck out of him as a player, but he's always got that honky, buzzy tone.
Carvin came out with a Steve Vai signature amp a while back. I passed.
