What's that "urm" sound at the begining of Spanish Fly? Who said it? Anyone know?

http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/biggrin.gif I have often wondered that! And why did they not edit it? It has to be Ed. Almost like he was trying to say "awright", like here we go or something. good ?

I always thought it was Ed. It sounds like he's got the microphone almost right in his mouth.

Yeah, I always assumed it was Ed. I like it. A lot of VH tunes have these little sounds in them and it's fun to find out what they are and how they came to be. Edward has a fascination with sound anyway and that's so cool because you never know what's going to end up as music. His car, Sherman, a broom, and I am sure that we're going to hear snippets of his hip surgery down the road somewhere!

Could this be magic?

It sounds pretty guttural to me, sort of down deep in the throat. Maybe he was doing a take, and somebody screwed him up somehow? Toss them a dirty look and an "Argh..." and go right back to it?

We should make a little list of the tunes that have some sort of talking or sound before the song starts.

Spanish Fly, Poundcake, Dream Is Over, and one off OU812... can't think of anymore at the moment.

Yes, it's Ed. If you listen very closely, which might require halfway decent headphones set quite loud, you can hear Ed say something like:"Alright, here we go...."

To MikeL: Wasn't the one from OU812 "Source Of Infection"? Are you speaking of the "......Take One...."? Maybe not, just thought that might jog your memory.

Thanks,

- Kerry

When I bought VH II I thought that was a defect. But after extensive search i have concluded that it is Ed moaning like he has to do another take. That is my theory on the whole thing

I always thought it sounded a lot like Dave, but it's obviously Ed.

I never thought of it as something like "fuck, I got to do another take?!?" I always thought it was just Ed fucking around. It's funny as shit and that's why they left it. I bet those guys were rolling on the floor when they played that back.

I always thought it was someone off mic or in the headphones signaling to Ed, and he goes "Urm" kinda like "ok..." and then starts ripping!

I like the deep breath and his hand laying down on the guitar at the wee end.

I just played it really loud but didn't have ear phones on and all I could hear was the "Urm" or "Hmmm" sound and can't find an Allright let's do it again. Darn. I must have bad ears!
