My wife and I went out to dinner at OLIVE GARDEN and went shopping at BEST BUY and I was looking at cd's and I was thinking of you and IRON MAIDEN . Well dude I bought BEST OF THE BEAST and let me tell you it fuckin rocks . Once a week starting next week I am going to get a MAIDEN cd every week until I get them all . NUMBER OF THE BEAST is scary , is that Vincent Price talking ? I like every song on the Cd . I wanted to get a hits cd first to check them out , well Bruce Dickinson is a awesome singer , the bass player is bad ass also . Steve Harris .? IRON MAIDEN fucking rocks , thanks for turning me onto them with your IRON MAIDEN rantings . Your right man , they rock . I needed another band to discover and dive into besides Van Halen . Van Halen will always be the best for me but I got a feeling IRON MAIDEN will be my number 2 band . I am just so fucking pumped up listening to this shit . It's cool DOC http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/biggrin.gif What cd should I get next week ? Their new one ? Let me know man .

Cool! http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/smile.gif

Check out the other Maiden topic : "If you have never listened to this Metal Masterpiece then you are missing out" , Me and Vic are suggesting many albums to start with on that thread. For a first album I recommend 7th son of a 7th son.

The albums I don't recommend for starting out are the first two albums with DiAnno on vocals (they take a while to get used to), and the four albums they did in the 90's.

Yeah Doc, you are the SHIT!

I got up this morning in my jammies, and downloaded a coupla tunes from nappy, just to make deciding which disk to buy today easier. I'm hooked, mofo! You've infected this whole board. Crazy fiend!

The weirdest thing happened last night. My buddy JB has this friend in town, so we went out for drinks. Turns out she's a former exchange student from Sweden, and she's very, very pretty, to put it mildly. As soon as she gets a buzz going, she turns to me and asks if I had any Maiden back at the house. I 'bout fell outta my chair, fucking Maiden is everywhere, even on the lips of fine blonde Swede's. Mindnumber!

Wow, a veritable Maiden lovefest! The Spaniard M.D must be in his glory!

Well, my first-ever concert was an Iron Maiden / Judas Priest show in 1981...I think it was the "Killers" tour. Paul Dianno (whom my buddy and I referred to as "phlegm throat") was still the frontman. I remember Steve Harris was just incredible...sort of the EVH of the bass. I also remember a HUGE Eddie walking onto the stage.

I dug Maiden while I was in high school in the early 80's...owned "Killers", "Maiden Japan" and "# of the Beast" but I guess I kinda grew out of it. (No offense meant!)

And, I haven't heard it in years, but I recall really digging "Flight of Icarus". Am I mistaken, or does that song kick ass?

I love "Flight..." That was the first one I heard today, that sent me into a frenzied search for classic Maiden. So far I picked up the new one, and Powerslave. I can't get enough of Nikko, what a badass! And Bruce is a exceptional singer. His chours really get you up outta your seat!

I can't believe I'm 30 and just now discovering IM. I remember when each album came out, cause I always had buddies into them, I guess I was just too busy with VH, or to snobby.http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/biggrin.gif

ps. The Swede was fun to flirt with, but she went home with JB, I could only use my imagination.http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/biggrin.gif

I have to say that I listened to Brave New World about 40-50 times since it came out, and the songs I'm starting to grow a bit tired to listen are the Mercenary and Dream Of Mirrors. http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/smile.gif

My favs right now are the 4 Bruce compositions, + Fallen Angel + The Nomad. Out Of The Silent Planet has an awesome chorus.

SD , one thing that I did notice about IRON MAIDEN was that STEVE HARRIS the bass player writes alot of their songs . Just thought that was interesting . I love that song NUMBER OF THE BEAST , the vocals are awesome , the bass , everything . IRON MAIDEN fucking rocks DOCTOR . Oh man !!http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/biggrin.gif

Ed6150:

Steve Harris founded the band, and created the Maiden sound by himself. So it's a given that he will be the most at ease at creating Iron Maiden songs from these basic building blocks that he's so familar with.

The Best of looks good for a taster of the band, however how the hell they could leave off some killer tracks like Wrathchild or Flight of the Icarus is beyond belief, also no Paul DiAnno sung tracks? Where the hell is Phantom of the Opera or one of my favs - Murder in the Rue Morgue????
To replace those with Blaze songs, hmmm someone should get kicked up the bum for that. And as for Virus - arrrrghghhhh, sorry just vomited into the bin by my desk!!!

Spanish Doctor
06.19.00, 11:19 AM
Virus is definitely one the crappiest (if not the crappiest) Maiden songs EVER. That song brings out the worst in Blaze: not convincing, no power, no soul, no range. I'm ashamed to say I bought the Best Of CD for that track alone, as I already had all studio CDs when this compilation saw the light of day. Van Halen's BOV1 has more bang for the buck for the hardcore fans, IMHO.

Yeah, that song from Blaze sucked bigtime.

However, if you bought the 40 dollar, hardcover, Limited Edition double CD of Best of the Beast, you will get a whole lot more tracks. Like 'Phantom of the Opera', 'Wrathchild', 'Rime of the Ancient Mariner' (LIVE), 'Running Free' (Live), etc.

By the way Span Doc, I still haven't heard the song 'The Clansman' from Virtual. I hear Bruce gives it a whole new life. What is the song like? Is it good?

The Clansman? Oh yeah, and it's the only very good song on VXI. They played it with Bruce last summer.
I can't wait to hear Sign Of The Cross sung by Bruce when I'll see em. IMHO, SOTC is the best song Harris penned in the whole 90's.

yeah Glenn I got the double cd , oops , it cost $28.99 , I lied to my wife on how much it cost . http://www.vhforums.com/vhlforum/smilies/biggrin.gif The single CD was only $17.99 but I wanted 2 http://www.vhforums.com/vhlforum/smilies/biggrin.gif

Yeah , it's funny because I picked up the double CD and I said , Fuck , this is expensive http://www.vhforums.com/vhlforum/smilies/biggrin.gif . And I seen another one for half the price and I then thought WTF , I'll get this one http://www.vhforums.com/vhlforum/smilies/biggrin.gif I then realized that one is a double and there was also a single .
