As usual, bandwidth issues. What I am going to do is move the board to a new server with huge bandwidth, and leave the site on our old server. That should stop these unncessary shutdowns by our host, who is really ticking me off.

it seems like you're having a lot of problems with your servers. you've been moving them around alot. hopefully you'll find something. as for the downtime, don't sweat it man.

No it's not that the server is down, it's that this site has a HUGE bandwidth usuage. So this company I am with decides when I go over my allottment, just to shut the site down without any notice. It's annoying and I'm sick of dealing with it frankly. I think I have worked out something with another company just to run the board on their server, I'll keep you all aprised. It's no picnic to me to come here on Monday, pull the site up and find it turned off again. It's getting older to me.

I guess I missed everything since I usually post late at night.

What happened? Just a slow down?

Hey, Brett, no big deal. http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/smile.gif

It's so disconcerting to find the entire site just vanished into thin air...and it's bound to keep happening, because when the boards get back up, EVERYONE rushes on here to get their Van Halen fix, and there it goes again.

That's a great idea to put the boards on another server, Brett. Hopefully this will solve the problem...

I really need a dedicated server, but I just can't afford that right now. I am also looking at some other board software, which uses PHP and not Perl, but I would need to do A LOT of customization before I could make it look identical to this board. And if it doesn't save bandwidth, it's not worth it. It will save space though. But moving the board to its own server is the best possibility right now, especially with this Monday stuff coming, I can't afford another huge bandwidth hit.

Guys, remember that you don't have to come here to see if the official site is updated. http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/rolleyes.gif

And if the official site has the news we've been waiting for, well, everyone can see it for themselves. You don't have to come in here and start 7 or 8 threads about it.

Brett, I'm sure that no one blames you for the problems with the server.

Maybe, this Friday, or on Sunday, you could start a topic in the Main Forum explaining to everyone here that you're expecting a huge amount of hits on Monday, and not to be shocked if the site is down.

This gives people (ahem...) "fair warning.". http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/wink.gif

Also mention that to keep the traffic low, everyone that is going to check in on Monday should get in and get out as soon as they can, just to be on the safe side.

Keep your head up. http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/smile.gif
