View Full Version : Some thoughts and reflection on Dave Roth...

I'll be moving Thursday, probably won't have a PC for quite a while. I'd simply like to say this...

For many, yet out of purely selfish reasons at this time...I wish Dave Roth could forever stay within the ages of 21-28.

Some friends and I used to sail Hobie-Cats from the Yankee Clipper Beach Point here in Fort Lauderdale.

Dave Roth would have been there helping us set up, and dragging the damned thing down the beach to the water. He would have been one of the last there to help drag it back up the beach to the trailer...then would be the guy to recommend a local pub, and at the end of the evening say "Hey, what are you cats doin' this morning?"

Dave Roth would have been one of the guys in my neighborhood helping me get my crap-mobile car started, so I could get to work, and think nothing of the gesture.

Dave Roth would have been the first guy to tell me "It will get better, there's more to life than this" when I encountered a seemingly impossible hardship.

Dave Roth would have said "Craig, save the rest of this joint for yourself, put it in your cigarette pack, you don't need it now, nor do you need to drive."

When my brother and father died, he would be the first fellow I turned to, as when the hurricanes of last season wiped out so many things.

He'd be the "go-to" guy, I'd call out to, now as my marriage crumbles.

Know what? Dave Roth has always been "21-28" to me. He was with me through all of the above stated, through music.

I finally did actually meet the fellow in the early 90's, and we talked fishing.

The guy has helped me, much...maybe you also, that is up to you.

Simply think before you slam a fellow in the future. True, you may prefer another singer, as is your right.

Yet absolutely no-one can take away what Dave Roth means to me .

I only ask that one thinks before dismissing someone, just as one would ask for one's self.

As the others said, awesome post Craig. I see what you're saying and I feel a lot of the same things about Dave now that you've brought them up. The guy has so much confidence in himself and seems to portray such a positive attitude about himself and his situation regardless what it might be. I think we all wish that some of that "Rothitude" would rub off on us.

Ditto that. Stay in touch. Internet cafes are usually around somewhere.

There's gonna be light again, bud. Of that, you can be sure. In the meantime...the beat goes on.

How can such a guy with such a big heart be anything but ok.. Craig, I love ya to bits and really get what you're saying.

Dont be away too long as we really need that wonderful common sense and humanity you bless this site with. I can say for me, your attitude is part of what makes this place so great. Roth on brother!!! :thumb:

Craig,

Thanks for posting that. I don't think there is anything that conjures up memories and transcends good times the way music does. That is particularly true of Classic Van Halen.

I wish you the best in whatever endeavor you are about to undertake. As Diamond Dave would say, "Keep the faith, brother".

Not trying to derail what has become a positive and good thread, but shouldn't this respect be a two-way street?

Hard as it is for some of you to believe, some people's attachment to Van Hagar tunes are as strong as your emotional ties to CVH music.

I couldn't care less if anyone slags Sammy or Dave, but some others take the insults personally (such as stating your wish that the Sammy cruise sink into the ocean). So, again, shouldn't this respect for others' preferred version of VH go both ways?

Tremendous post Chef! As always...

There is a lot of truth in your post and not just about Dave. We can all apply those sentiments to our own lives. It's amazing how quick we can attack people that are the closest to us and offer our loyalty to people we met an hour ago.

Take care and I look forward to seeing you back soon.
