View Full Version : Slow and wacky using Netscape

I don't know if this has been brought up, but whenever I view the board using netscape, it's slow and painful. It works fine for me on Explorer it seems.
Not surprising, but I ONLY use Netscape, but I have a T-1 at work and Cable at home, so I probably am not the best person to judge this. Seems OK for me.
NOTE: I am doing a lot of work on the forums behind the scenes, so I am sure I am bogging the board and server down. Also this forum uses a cache system which helps it render faster. The problem is when I hack stuff back in I have to clear out the cache so when you load the page, it takes longer to generate. Once things are set though, you will absolutely notice a speed increase.

Ok, I'll see what happens with it down the road.
Sometimes, when clicking on a topic, it will load up the black background and then "freeze" for a minute before anything shows up.

That freeze is probably waiting for Netscape to render the nested tables, that's all.
Netscape hates tables! Steven out of curiousity, what version of Netscape are you using. And yes actually the board does have a few more tables now because of the menu stuff and the new look. VHLinks.com has less but VHForums has more. :(

I'm using Netscape 4.72
I just tried coming to this very post using Netscape and it loaded up nothing but a black page and told me document done. So I switched to Explorer to post this.
This same thing always happened to me at the DLRarmy boards when I used to go there. I haven't been there lately because of the problem.

"slow and wacky" is a good way to describe it! :D I guess this is why people hate Netscape. *shrug* I wish I could use Netscape all the time, but for table-happy sites like this one, IE just works better.
Better than god awful frames. smile.gif

I've noticed the pause on Netscape... if I didn't hate IE so much maybe I wouldn't be so stubborn about it ;)
I'll have to try this site with Netscape 6 sometime soon, since that renders more "on the fly" like IE does. Of course, it fixes a lot of Netscape/Microsoft issues, but it has a whole NEW batch of issues...

Netscape Deep Six is pretty unstable, and 6.01 didn't help much.
And the Netscape-Microsoft issues got even worse with that rushed alpha version that AOL tried to pass off as a finished product. smilies/rolleyes.gif
Netscape 6 is a terrible product, I'll stick with 4.76.
