If I was to choose one song and say that it represented Van Halen my pick would be IN A SIMPLE RHYME. The way the song is arranged is genius . Dave's best vocal performance . The words to the song kick STAIRWAY TO HEAVENS ass! Al,Ed,&Mike tear that song up. If Van Halen returns with DIAMOND I would shit a brick if they would play this song live . I think it's the best Van Halen song ever released.

"In A Simple Rhyme" is a great song. Does it represent VH, in my opinion it could but there are some other songs as well.
"Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love", "Hot For Teacher", "Unchained", "Jump" all fit in that category. Picking one is too tough.

WACF is my least fav VH record, but that tune is one of my favorites. I think it's one of Dave best vocal performances. Especially the break part just before Ed's solo.

Yup, killer tune. Awesome background vocals too. Doesn't Ed play a 12 string on this one?

Perfect ending song, on one of my favorite VH albums. In A Simple Rhyme is a classic ...

Definitely a great song as it attempts to answer the question "How many times can a band change directions in a song?"

I think I heard an angel sigh.

I would agree. In A Simple Rhyme, just simply kicks ass. From the angel like beginning, to Dave's great: "She made the mountains sing, birds against an icy sky..." part. Always been my favorite song that most people do not know, especially non-VH fans.

I thought that I was in the minority. I always thought that most VH fans didn't like this song.

It has always been my favorite song hands down. Glad to see that so many other VH fans think that it is a great song.

I have always liked VH songs that have such a change of pace in the songs. ie - Ice Cream Man.

Sometimes it seems like I'm the only one who likes certain VH songs, glad to see I'm not alone. WACF is excellent. I feel like the little BEE GIRL in that Blind Melon video where she finds others who are like her!!

I absolutely love that song! Here's my big secret: I used to pretend that Ed was playing that right to me (hee hee). Hey! I was a teenager, gimmee a break.

I would love to hear Van Halen redo this song just to hear what it sounds like , make it a year 2000 rendition . I think this is my favorite Dave era Van Halen song . It smokes , what a awesome song ..!!

You know, I could listen Ed's intro over and over again. And I do. Got it on cd in the car, and I continually hit the |< button right before the drum solo. I wish they would have continued that intro for one more verse before the drums kick in though.

My favorite song off of WACF.

"Woke up in life to find I almost missed it - ain't I glad that love is blind?!"

One of, if not the, best songs off of WACF. http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/smile.gif

paradiddle is right about the vocals. Man they were good. I hope they reach back in time and find some of that old magic for the new album. http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/wink.gif

IASR was the best way to end WACF. Great album. http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/smile.gif

In a Simple Rhyme is kind of an answer to all those people who say Dave can't write sensitive love songs. It's the one I go to if I get dumped 'cos it says "Well tough luck this time I guess, but look at the opportunities!"

"... I was in love but Cupid missed me,"

Great song. I kinda wish it was longer too. I would say it's my favorite but I would only change my mind tomorrow.
I remember I went on holiday when I was 16 and heartbroken and I had the lyrics written in the front of my diary to cheer me up! I just remembered that!

Definitely a great song but Mean Streets, WACF and FW, that's VH to me.
In a Simple Rhyme was never played in concert, after WACF came out for a reason....over produced. The guitar solo is super wicked but it's more a glam tune. It's great, I love it. It's just more ?? than the next song....Mean Streets. This is my home for VH http://216.10.25.192/vhlforum/smilies/wink.gif Just my opinion. Don't shoot me.

Great song. I agree with this being one of DLR's greatest vocal performances, and great backup vocals by Michael.

it would be so awesome to hear live. Just picture it
: a hot summer night (no pun) at some amphitheater and they just play some kickass fast song. that song ends, everyone cheers and there is a calm when everyone settles down, then the first notes of In a Simple Rhyme start. I'd go nuts and probably cry or something. It's no secret that WACF is my favorite vh record. Me and Eddie Italian should start a WACF club. How about it Eddie? http://216.10.25.192/vhlforum/smilies/smile.gif

Off the top of my head, these songs are better than IASR. Little Guitars, Unchained and Mean Street. These days Little Guitars is my favorite VH song, and I can't wait to hear it remastered.
