rumor has it they already looked at an old site in palm desert where the old bananaz bar and club was-it burned down. seems they nixed the idea cuz it was too small but they are looking at another location on country club drive.
dunno abot you, but a cabo wabo 10 minutes from me sounds fookin stellar!

well that's interesting if it's true - cuz it means Sammy and Eddie have to be in some sort of communication then - cuz he can't open any US based Cabo's without the Brother's involvement if i remember correctly.
so maybe this isn't a dead issue after all...

are you sure? I thought the brothers sold their shares of the business and rights to Sammy years ago?

Yeah, that's the understanding that I had.

the brothers sold their share after the original hagar split - that is true - ed thought it was a losing endeavor so Sammy bought them out and turned it into a goldmine. but - that was just in the original cabo. if Sammy wants to franchise in the US - the brothers are invovled - they might not be as invovled as Sammy - but they have some say in things to come. i remember reading about that around the time the reunion/announcement of Taho was released.
does anyone else remember that or is it just me?

Well heres the thing: I initially got the info from Sam's "unreleased" book, of which a few chapters were posted here a few months ago...yet I'm certain that I read someplace that the agreement had been revised, which meant that Mike Anthony also lost in the buy-out.
Sorry, too many fried brain cells to remember the exact thing.

I do George, from what I remember, part of the deal in the original sale was that if the franchise moved onto the states the brothers would get a percentage.
BTW.. always good to see ya George!! :thumb:

But then, wasn't it reported here that part of Sam's compensation for last year's tour included getting a release from the Brother's Van Halen, such that Sammy gets to open US based Cabo's without having to pay them anything?
I just wish the St. Louis one would hurry up and get built. It's apparently being held up by the city, which I can't understand, since St. Louis can use all the positive development anyone's willing to give it.

No, I believe all the franchise rights were optioned out to Sammy. VH is completely outta the Cabo loop.
Makes sense, otherwise we woulda seen a shitload of Cabo promos at the shows during the tour last year. More money is more money.

Sammy needs to stop worrying about building another "Cabo" and work on REBUILDING the friendship he allegedly wishes he still shared with EVH.

I think you're right. Not only were there no promos for Cabo but if you believe backstage gossip, there could be no mention even of Cabo. Didn't some DJ get bitched at for wearing a Cabo shirt or something? Gotta think that if Ed were makin a percentage it wouldn't bother him.
Frankly the whole thing reminds me of the Tan and Wash from Cheers. ;)

Somebody's taken up new residence on Bitter Street. :)
Get over it, man. Nothing's gonna happen until Ed gets a grip.
And I wonder, is it mandated that EVERY thread in Main has to turn into a Sammy bitchfest these days?
I seem to recall that Sammy was asked NOT to advertise CW tequila in any way during the '04 tour. Supposedly that's one of the reasons he got his new CW Cantina ink before the tour started (almost as a "Ha...what are you going to do about THIS?"). I'm sure if VH had any stakes in the CW franchise last year, they wouldn't have banned the advertising of it if they stood a chance of making money off of it.

Hiya Angel! :) glad someone else remembered that too.
as for the other accounts mentioned of Sammy's compensation for the tour - honestly - i missed those threads - this is the first i've heard of them. hmmm - i suppose it could be true - maybe Sam did gain complete control of the franchise - but would Ed do that? From the previous reports he was envious of Sam and wished he hadn't sold his share in Cabo after seeing it turn around - so why sell it to get Sammy to tour again - Cabo would be around alot longer than any tour that seems like a poor business decision, and with Cabo's proven track record - i doubt even Ed would want to give his stake up for a single tour?? Does that seem like a bad business decision to anyone else?
What does that mean regarding Sammy's reunion with the boys? He toured to regain full ownership of Cabo? boy that's unsettling if that's the underlined meaning. hell - thinking VH and the Sam still had some connection - even if it was only in Cabo - was atleast something hopeful to think about. hmmm.... was his compensation ever confirmed or is this just rumor. lol like the band has any shortage of those. lol.
Well Angel - thanks for chiming in - always good to hear ya - i may not always be vocal - but i'm never too far away. or to quote one of my favorite movies:
"We're sorta like 7-Eleven. We're not always doing business, but we're always open."
and Cheers rocks! NORM!
sam has had complete control of cabo for a long time now

Palm Springs? That's only an hour away for me. I'd be there often and repeatedly.
See you all there...
I'm curious about one thing, what's the big deal with the Cabo Wabo Cantina's? Seriously, I'm sure the tequila is good stuff, but what's the big deal with the actual bars themselves? I've never been so I'm seriously curious about the hoopla and not trying to be a dick here. Anyone?
Well, I can't speak for the Tahoe Wabo but I can say that the one in Cabo San Lucas is like being in a Hard Rock Cafe dedicated solely to Van Halen and Sammy Hagar. There is VH memorabilia literally EVERYWHERE. I, for one, am a little disappointed that it is being franchised. There's something special about the one down in Cabo (like having a "piece of home" in a foreign country). If they're being built everynow now, that special little place "south of the border" won't be as unique anymore. One of the reasons Sammy built the one in Cabo was for musicians from all over the world to have a place to come and play for fun. They do too. Many artists have gone into the cantina and done an impromptu jam session while they were down there on vacation. :thumb:
Oh...and yes, the tequila does KICK ASS!!!
Thanks for the reply. Anyone been to the Tahoe Cabo? Does it have the same "Vibe?" After reading your description, I can't but wonder if they can't be duplicated. I mean, how many of these "theme" clubs have gone under the past few years? It seems I'm always reading about a celebrity who's restaurant franchise went belly up.....Oh well, good luck Sam.

The Tahoe club is much smaller and understated than the Baja joint. It's downstairs at Harvey's Casino at Stateline.
The tequila's good, the food's good, and there's always hot babes galore at either place. Imagine Sam wailing out Summer Nights five feet from your table. Halen-family tunes in a club setting. What's not to like?

Sweet. I'm so there. Frequently. SoCal needs a Cabo joint.
So, dude, WAZZUP? Throw us a bone. Fuck the dudes who wank about it, they just need something to cry about. Tell us the deal.

Nine, welcome back.
Dude, do u have any good VH/Sam news... anything would do... like the other day u heard Sam whistle "summer nights" while going shopping, or... he flashed the VH sign to a passing car... we're desperate out here, and willing to settle for the smallest glimmer of light...
:(
Sammy is a damn good business man...
