... at the Barret-Jackson auction that starts this week.
not really sure what is his motivation for selling the car, but if i had to guess, i'm thinking it has something to do with a charity... cause the man obviously doesn't need the bread.
the car is sweet looking, but for hard-core Shelby enthusiasts, it's kind of an oddity:
for starters, it's red with black stripes, not a color/stripe combo available from Shelby at the time.
and the red paint used in the restoration isn't an original Ford color. in fact, it's acutally Ferrari red. a bitch color, my favorite, but not OEM.
and the car is equipped with a 427 big block, instead of the 428 police interceptor (later called the Cobra Jet) that virtually all GT 500s departed with from the factory. here's where things get a little interesting...
the Ford 427 was listed an optional big block engine for 1967. however, very few if any GT 500's actually left the factory with the 427. in fact, there is not documentation indicating any GT 500s with a 427.
any way, a strange but cool car. you can watch it get auctioned off on January 21, lot 1259, no reserve.
