Ray is a great drummer and he's a cool guy. I met him (and the rest of Dave's band about two years ago at the Hard Rock Cafe in Houston before their gig.

One of the absolute best drummers I've ever seen. He's been with Dave now since what...98? That's a long time man, and he was great all the way.

So does this mean Dave's done touring for the time being?

I think he'll just find another drummer. Alex isn't doing anything anyways. :)

That sounds about right based on the "He's going to join Filter" rumour from last month...

But you think he's taking a break from the live circuit after summer?

Most likely if he's gonna do that radio gig. He'll probably hang it up for awhile.

Lightnin' Ray Luzier!!
Dude probably couldn't keep up with all the setlist changes!

Yeah I new this about a few weeks ago. I'm in a band that shares a lock out with a guy names sean dailey and also John stack (ex-numira/choking ghost) and they told me this. Rays also working on his own record. I have heard some of it. It pretty killer. I think brian (dlr's guitarist) as well as that guy toshi plays on it. Sean Dailey and John Stack both are singing on it. There good friends of mine. I've only met Ray once or twice though....glad to hear he'll be working with the deleo bros.

Just untill next year's Ribfest. ;)
Seriously though, if he is going to be a DJ, I would guess the band will dissolve. I don't know if he'd keep them on the payroll for the occasional weekend gig.

Didn`t it say Ray is hooking up with two guys from STP? That should be interesting.

kinda funny when you think last year, Sammy's keyboardist left.

Yep, he's in a band with The Deleo Brothers and Richard Patrick from Filter. They're on Columbia Records.

He and Jesse Harms are looking to form the ultimate supergroup :sssh:
So now is the time to reform with Vai, Sheehan and Bissonette.
All good guys, and amazing musicians. I got to see Vai/Sheehan on G4 together, cool hearin Shyboy again, even though it wasn't technically a Roth tune. But you know Roth isn't going to hire slackers, he will have a good band regardless.
I just wish someday Roth would actually play some of HIS solo tunes, he has some "Damn Good" stuff. The ONLY time he really did this was with the original DLR lineup (which I never saw). I enjoy hearing the old VH stuff too don't get me wrong. But it's not quite the same without Ed.
This is coming from one who actually likes both Roth AND Hagar ;-)

Yeah I would love to see him back with the EEAS band too. I was also excited when I saw Vai and Sheehan play Shyboy on the G3 tour!
Dave does play some solo songs now in shows. I saw him live last November. He played Yankee Rose, Just Like Paradise, Goin' Crazy, Sho Boop, Just A Gigalo and California Girls.

Dave won't need a drummer on his new radio gig. Besides the army is reporting Ed called Dave last week. Probably just wanted his lighter back though.
So either Dave is going to replace Stern or maybe going to replace Sammy on www.van-halen.com. Time will tell.

Any chance of directing to a band website or posting some of your bands songs?

At least once a month I crank "Drop in the bucket" just to truly appreciate what Dave was able to acheive with great musicians. My god that song still kills me every time, incredible!
Only one guitar player on the planet could really play that song live and that aint gonna happen ever, Tragedy.

That's unfortunate but not unexpected. Dave plays what, 10 maybe 15 gigs a year.

Agreed, and I'm a HUGE Deleo bros. fan, so I can't wait to hear the new songs.
In a way this is sad though. Ray's been Dave's longest band member since Ed, Alex and Mike. He's been with Dave going on 10yrs, and always put on a great performance live and on record. He'll be missed.

Ray is a class act! Maybe he will sit in with Metal Skool from time to time...that would rock!
ray will never play with metal skool. he chose to stay with the bands original management and still plays in rip off versions of "Metal Shop" from time to time.
Plus Metal Skool has a better drummer in Darren anyways
