Is anybody bringing a pro Mike banner to the show? My friend I'm going with wants to make a big banner and hold it up at the show that reads like a biblical passage.

Personally, I see no need for anything like that. Look, the guys know that we want Mike back. However, bringing pro-Mike signs are only going to make Eddie mad (which we know what happens when he gets mad......he switches lead singers) and make Wolfgang feel really uncomfortable and unwanted.
I'd refrain from doing it.

If it were 3:16 it might have a little more of an edge... ;)
Really, though, as long as the signs are pro-Mike and not anti-Teen Wolf what's the problem?

That's great, however...
I wouldn't bring any banners to that effect to the show. It would not be the polite thing to do. All the banner would do is piss-off Dave. He can bearly sing anymore as it is and something like that to distract him might make him forget some lyrics as well...Funny, but not a good idea.

I wouldn't go to the show at all. That's the best way you can support the cause. Why pay money, knowing he's not there and then complain. Makes no sense. Eddie got his cash, that's all he cares about.

Dont do it. IMO, you're pouring salt into the wound and it might be best to let this heal as much as possible. MA is gone. We all want him there, but he isnt. As the DemocRats would say... "move on". If you MUST voice your opinion, just wear the shirt that reads "Got Mike?" and be done with it. Low key bro. Low key.
Also, I'd be willing to bet you'd have security on your ass real quick.

You could bring one that says "I am only hear to complain and I can't deal with CHANGE" and you would probably get the same response from everyone around you: Your ass kicked!

If someone wants to bring one, I say more power to you....it would take a set of balls bigger than mine to bring a pro-Mike banner knowing you'll probably piss off Ed and those around you.
But, hey I'm pretty sure you'll be covered by the 1st amendment then possibly a cup of beer. But if you've got the balls to fork out that much dough and then possibly have it backfire.....go for it!

You might get a better response if you held up a sign that read:
"WHO THE F*%@ IS MIKE SOBOLEWSKI?"
Or better yet:
"DAVE'S CUE CARD:
DAVE - I FORGOT THE F*%@IN' WORDS!"
Or:
"WHERE IS GARY CHERONE?"
These are bound to make you some friends! :D

What happened when Sam took over from Dave - did people boo or have banners about Dave? What was Eddies reaction?

I, for one, will be wearing my "What About Mark Stone" shirt? (not even sure if that's the dude's name.)
Seriously, I love MA. In hindsight, I wish he would have left VH in '96 (beacuse he really wasn't allowed to contribute after then anyway). He could have been a full blown Wabo and written material with Sammy and been happy.
That said, the decision was made by EVH and no one else to can hot sauce. I am not going to give Wolfie crap about it. He will do his best. And the way that I see it, Eddie would still be writing porn soundtracks and hitting on Evan Stone's wife if Wolf didn't make him realize that a CVH reunion could be a good thing.

In Philly during the 5150 tour Sam led a brief Fuck Dave chant. I thought that was classless. Also VH's coolness, name, and succes was a BIG upgrade for Sam and he was busting on Dave? I was trying to accept Sam in VH...not liking his solo music or image at all prior to that and his disrespect to Dave and the bands history(not wanting to play many old VH tunes) really tainted my perception of Sam and the band to some degree.
From my memory I remember Ed smirking some during the fuck Dave thing and Mike laughing with a playful "im not going to touch that one" body language. Take that for what it's worth. :P Anyway I don't like to see hate of any kind. Move on and be positive life is too short to be a petty asshole. Obviously Ed want's to play with Wolf and NOT Mike. So if it really bugs you don't go. Why spend the money and sit there all upset? Only go if u can let go enough to try and enjoy the show in a positive manner. Negativity is toxic. Who knows what really has gone down between the members of the band. We all speculate and argue and none of us truly know all the details. Everyone says Mike is the best guy in the world and Ed is a total drunk prick. We don't really know what went down between them over the course of 30 some years.

It was a little different than the Mike situation, fans threw up banners that were anti-Dave, not pro-Dave. If Dave were fired in the matter Mike was it may have been a different story. That said, I've never seen any at the many shows I've been to, but I know the 5150 tour had that issue, FANS threw them up, Sammy held them up and that was that. Not a big deal to most.
I think Ed told Sam to chill on the banners and any mention of Dave, as he should have, why waste stage time on the old singer that quit?

At the time the 5150 tour rolled through South Florida, the sentiment was decidedly not "Anti-Dave". There were considerably more "Where's Dave" and "South Florida Would Have Sold Out For Dave" (the show was far from capacity) banners in use. The only positive ones were for Eddie, the usual "King" type things. Those attending the shows did so out of curiosity and appreciation for the guitarist, as there were no videos out at the time
The most cringe inducing moment of the show was when Hagar invited a Miami Dolphin player (of course, wearing a jersey) on stage to sing "Jump".
Aside from the Ed's solo, the crowd was surprisingly reserved compared to the "Roth-fronted" rock and roll party that played the same venue only two years previously.

Like I said, I've NEVER seen any of that in person, I was actually going off of that MTV special "UNLEASHED" where they talked about the banners. Then there was a RS article (I think it was Rolling Stone?) where Ed talked about telling Sam to chill.
Either way it's dumb. If you go to the show, just have fun. Why waste time with banners bashing old members, or in this case, antagonizing current members with the "Where's Mike" stuff.
If you hate the fact that Mike isn't there, the best way to get your point across is to not pay to see this nonsense tour.

I rest my case cos "Sammy held them up" PERIOD!!! He made a huuuuuge spectacle of it here in '86. It didn't help that EVH was so fucked up that he could hardly stand.
I'll admit my childishness as well (as I've told this story plenty of times) cos when we went to Dave's EEAS show a few months further down the road, we tossed a huge sheet that was Anti-VH, Dave read it (to himself) and threw it to his roadies as if "Get this shit off my stage!!!" Whereas not only did SH read the giant Anti-Dave banner, make SEVERAL jokes about Dave, simulate wiping his ass with it but started a five minute crowd chant yelling "DAVID SUCKS!!!" until a plowed EVH told him to stop. The only good thing about that '86 show was that Dave was still the star of the show and wasn't even there!!! :D
In a weird way, I was embarrassed for SH.

Let's not forget when Sam took shots at Eddie during the Sam and Dave tour, where footage was shown of a drill cutting into a replica of Eddie's striped guitar during Poundcake.
Making fun of/bashing former bandmates should be left out of the concert. Let fans do this type of crap in the parking lot.

I don't see a problem with taking a pro Mike banner or wearing a pro Mike t-shirt to the show, it's just making a small protest that an original and valuable member is missing. If it pisses off any of the band members, that's their fault the way I see it. Ed & Al have bullied Mike enough, they can reap what they sow. Tough luck, it was their (dumb) call.
This is a completely different situation than 1986, Dave quit, Sam took over. I do agree however that Sam dug himself a hole with many die hard fans of the classic line-up. He was stupid to badmouth Dave at shows and he didn't make much of an effort throughout his tenure with the band to sing many of the classic tracks. Basically, he showed a lack of respect to the bands original incarnation and made plenty of enemies along the way. I'm sure if Sam had been more appreciative of the DLR era material and made an effort to sing those tracks with more reverence, the "Dave or the Gravers" would have been more tolerant of him.

Most fans would much prefer a real Classic Van Halen reunion...

Mate, I can understand a bit of "disappointment" but there does come a time when people must get on with their lives, you know?
Otherwise, these fans end up sounding like a disgruntled postal worker on a bad day or like "Punkin'Head" IMO.
At the end of the day, if these people you're talking about are so passionate about MA's absence, they can always catch him playin' with The Other Half, etc.
The fact remains, Wolfgang IS The bassist for Van Halen and nothing's going to change that fact.
As for the "most fans" statement, MA's absence isn't stopping shows from selling nor is it stopping longtime fans from spending big $$$ to go.

Totally get where your coming from, Max.
I get that it is what it is and Wolfie's in the band at the moment. I hope it's not for anything more than this tour though.
Hey, that's just my opinion, i think that Wolfie looks odd standing on stage with this band. I've tried to look at this issue from a positive side, but just can't.
I know he's talented, so I'm not trying to rip on him for his playing ability. He'll hold his own from a musical point of view.
It's great to see those pictures of Dave and Ed on stage together again, but the ones of Wolfie, I find creepy. A 16 year old in the same band as three 50 year olds just looks wrong to me.
Anyhow, I'm sure the shows will be good and yes, Mike's absence doesn't seem to have slowed ticket sales too much. I wouldn't pay top dollar to see this tour though, I would if it was the original 4.
We're cool and always have been. :)

Although this tour is not really my cup of tea, if this line-up was to release new material, I'd still shell out coin for it. I wouldn't be happy about the Wolfie thing, but new music from Dave & Ed together again would be awesome.

Perhaps if I were still in high school and had a more narrow perspective on life, I would regret missing a concert of a band with a teenage bass player along with three 50-somethings for whom I've lost so much respect due to their decisions and actions in recent years. However, I think that I and selected others here have decided to drop this band lower on our lists of priorities than the other more important and fulfilling things we need to concern ourselves with at this stage of our lives.
That doesn't mean that those who are going don't also have more important things to worry about. It just means that a concert with this version of VH has dropped precipitously to the bottom of the list of priorities for many of us. I don't regret my decision not to go see this tour now nor will I ever regret it. Basically, I won't regret it anymore than EVH currently regrets firing his longtime bass player without a reasonable public explanation of why he took this action.

I'm not quite sure if your retort is intended to be some sort of condescending dig towards myself, much like the majority of your posts have been over the last few months?
I mean, give me a break man? Nowhere did I mention that this tour's some life altering event, etc. It just seems like a perfectly normal observation to assume people who actually post on a Van Halen message board might harbor a certain amount of both excitement and jubilation by actually witnessing the founding members and co-authors of the band's most popular catalogue, imo. Especially if the same fans haven't ever been as fortunate as myself to witness them performing together and live on the same stage. However and if the bassplayer switch is that vital, then by all means, stay far away and nurse that broken heart. Fortunately, MA was never the draw for myself in the first place so I'll be ok. :)
Also, when you refer to "many of us" I'm still extremely unclear cos you seem to fall into the minority and not the majority of Van Halen fans who not only seem to be embracing this tour but spending large amounts of money to participate.
Regardless, you stay home and more power to you. :thumb: However and from what I've both seen and heard thus far, the so called "50-somethings" and "teenage bass player" sound like a million bucks. :D Infact, I've never heard "(Oh) Pretty Woman" sound better from these guys. :bounce: Wolfgang sounds just fucking epic and judging from the sales, most people are neither losing hair nor sleep over MA not being there.
Finally and I'll let you in on a little secret, MA's getting on with his life. Not only that but he also seems to be playing the same old Halen tunes as well. So, it looks like everything's working out just fine for all parties involved. ;)
I think if Dave sees a pro-Mike banner, he is gonna point to it and say....

Actually, it was no more meant to be condescending than your assumption that those of us skipping this tour will be "regretting it," as if we're simply not as enlightened as you to see the errors of our ways. Speak for yourself, not those of us who've completely thought through our actions and have decided not to attend this tour and not to support this current band lineup.
As for the tone and tenor of my comments on this site over the last few months, I've provided my opinion in the same way I always have. I haven't changed one iota. Some like it, others don't. You used to like it, but now you don't because you hold views on the band that are now diametrically opposed to mine and have thus been on the receiving end of some of my posts.
However and if the bassplayer switch is that vital, then by all means, stay far away and nurse that broken heart. Fortunately, MA was never the draw for myself in the first place so I'll be ok.
First of all, I responded to your specific comment, which seemed to be attributing some great need for someone to go see this tour. I mean, who the hell would have any level of “regret” for something that wouldn't be particularly important to them? Worse of all, why would anyone have any “regret” regarding seeing a musical artist in concert?!? I have enough other important things to worry about at my age (as do many others in their late 30s) than something as frivolous as that.
Second, just remember that you're posting in MA's forum, so you should expect these types of pro-MA opinions in this particular forum. I know of late you've liked to take unfair shots at MA for some reason (e.g., so that you can make yourself feel better about going to this tour?) but enough of the slags about MA's singing abilities and bass playing, which are unfair and completely untrue. You should take a lesson from me and stop posting in this forum, as you won't see me posting in the tour forum to rain on anyone's parade and intentionally create conflict and hostility.
Third, you and many others display this willful ignorance that opposition to this band lineup and tour is only about MA's omission. That's certainly the biggest part of it, but it was also the way that it was done, the fact that he was replaced by a child, and the fact that this isn't the real CVH reunion everyone here has been waiting for since 1985 (or at least since 1996). As I've posted before, if MA were a part of this tour and it was a real reunion of the guys who created and toured behind the music from the first six albums, there would be 99% buy-in on this tour among the fanbase. Instead, EVH (or one of the "sisters" to use the vernacular you and your ilk have been using for a long time) has succeeded in dividing the fanbase once again.
Fourth, I post on a VH message board now because I was a huge fan for nearly 30 years so there are a lot of good memories. Plus, I like discussing other issues with people that have also been fans of the band. As I've written repeatedly, I've grown tired and disgusted with the VH brothers and their childish, boorish behavior. If anyone but DLR was fronting this band lineup, we all know you and other DLR-only fans would feel the same exact way – except the mocking of EVH's kid would dwarf the benign level that it exists at now. EVH and AVH recruit DLR to give the band lineup and tour some credibility and put people in the seats, and all of a sudden we have the DLR-only fans sucking on the teat of EVH. It's funny but also sad to see so many harsh critics of EVH forget their past criticisms of him simply because DLR is going to be fronting the band for a short tour.
Lastly, I don't have a broken heart, smartass. But I'll remember that "nurse that broken heart" comment when DLR is out of the band once again after this tour and you and your ilk start insulting the VH "sisters" once again and blaming them for ruining your good time and the new VH CD with new material you were hoping would be released. The crying will undoubtedly be epic. :thumb:
Also, when you refer to "many of us" I'm still extremely unclear cos you seem to fall into the minority and not the majority of Van Halen fans who not only seem to be embracing this tour but spending large amounts of money to participate.
By "many of us," I mean among those of us not supporting this tour. It's fairly easy to figure out that's what I was saying in my post since it was in response to your comment about those of us not going. Either way, consider that a clarification.
There is no doubt that VH fans that are not going to see this tour (like myself) are in the minority in regards to supporting this band lineup and tour. But is that any different than the attitudes of many DLR-only fans for the better part of two decades?!?…Oh, wait, it is. We're not going to be pissing and moaning for 20-plus years. We'll just move on with our lives and leave the Mighty VH to memory, without any “regrets.” Understand?!? :thumb:
Regardless, you stay home and more power to you. However and from what I've both seen and heard thus far, the so called "50-somethings" and "teenage bass player" sound like a million bucks. Infact, I've never heard "(Oh) Pretty Woman" sound better from these guys. Wolfgang sounds just fucking epic and judging from the sales, most people are neither losing hair nor sleep over MA not being there.
Good for them. A lot of people didn't lose hair nor sleep over DLR not being there for two decades either but you and other DLR-only fans obviously had a problem with it, correct?
As for them "sounding like a million bucks," I'm not as enamored as some of you that have already invested time, money and intellectual energy in this band lineup and tour. I looked at some of the clips and IMO it is what I said it would be in some of my previous posts over the past 6-9 months. EVH's kid would be serviceable on bass but largely a wooden performer, and they would put on a decent show (though contrary to your “unbiased” views, I do think songs like “Pretty Woman” definitely sounded better from the CVH lineup, especially with MA on background vocals). Hopefully for those of you going, the performance doesn’t suffer as the tour drags on, like it did in ‘04. But it's still not the full lineup of the musicians I grew up listening to on the first six albums, which is all I’ve been waiting for since there really was nothing left for the band to do. Nothing will change the fact that these aren’t the four guys that performed the classic music from 1978-1984. It also won't change the fact that MA was tossed to the curb by a petulant guitar player whose ego in 2007 exceeds his abilities in 2007.
Finally and I'll let you in on a little secret, MA's getting on with his life. Not only that but he also seems to be playing the same old Halen tunes as well. So, it looks like everything's working out just fine for all parties involved.
Thanks for the lecture. I don't know what you've accomplished in your life where you think you can lecture me, but suffice it to say that you can keep your "advice" to yourself. Your comment is even funnier because you and your DLR-only pals didn't get on with life for two decades and you're trying to lecture some of us about being petty regarding MA's official removal from the band less than a year ago. Yeah, OK.
Anyway, you're actually missing the point. I have got on with my life, which is why I'm not drooling over a band lineup with a child on bass and will not put another penny in the pockets of an unhappy jerk like EVH. I'll leave the Mighty VH to my memories, not this ridiculous and idiotic turn of events in which the longtime bassist is treated like crap (including being mocked publicly as “Sauce Sobolewski”), not told why he's no longer in the band, and is replaced by the guitar player's inexperienced teenage son.
Let me say that I'm sure it will be a decent tour in which most attendees will enjoy themselves. But I simply wouldn't, so I'm not going to go. It doesn't make me a "hater" or a "whiner" or a "MA lover." It makes me someone whose affection for VH has waned for various reasons -- mostly due to the actions of EVH, who is the reason for both my love and disdain of the band. The band no longer occupies a prominent place in my life like it once did. It also makes me someone who simply has filled in the gaps in his life with things far more important to me than a 90-120 minute concert with some performers I don't particularly like as people anymore. It's actually that simple. I'm not miserable or angry whatsoever, though I would be angry at myself for spending money on this tour and band lineup.

:funny: :funny: That deserved 2.
We got on with life 20 something years ago. That's why this tour means nothing to those of us who prefer the REAL CVH lineup. If it ain't Mike, Al, Ed and Dave.....it ain't CVH. No matter how many times you say how STELLAHHHHH Wolfie is, he ain't Mike, never will be.
No regrets for not going, none at all.
We get it, you don't give a shit about Mike, so how about you spend some time fluffin D-Ro and Co. in those forums and stop polluting the Mike Forum :)
Thanks for your support & cooperation.
In all seriousness and honestly I wonder why you're all of a sudden back :sssh:
It's past six Greenpaw so you can stop being snotty. :)
Besides and honestly, why do you care? Regardless, maybe you should stop "wondering" cos I was both posting here, chatting with several pals and having a fine time long before you decided to grace us with your presence.
Everyone else seems to be getting along, having both decent and civil discussions as of late. Maybe it's something you ought to give a try. :thumb:

Hmmmm, when did you land the title informing people where they can and cannot post? I guess I must have missed that thread where you were made the moderator of this forum? Let's see, I read a post asking about banners, shared my opinion was having both civil discussions/debates with DR and Ian, then you decided to chime in with a less than friendly attitude that had ZERO to do with our discussions. Next time I'll make sure and check with you first, mmmK?
Seriously, let it go. Why don't you mind your own business?
Bye. :D
I don't know, I'm so fine with my decision not to go. It's a lot of money (that honestly I don't have right now), and I've seen the real deal, and I've seen great shows with Sam fronting the band too. I'm all good. I don't need to closure on Van Halen, the music will always be there for me. I got closure with Dave, 23 years ago at the Forum. It will never be better than that.
Guys seriously, everyone just needs to let it go. You're going...fine. You're not going...fine. Nobody's right, nobody's wrong.
Fuck it, I'm putting your name back.

Deal, thank you and I couldn't agree more.
Also, of course my statement about certain people "regretting it" wasn't meant for all. Especially for those of us who've seen them before or for people who don't care one way or the other about having Roth back. I was just speaking about people making some stance as if EVH will actually notice and/or care. Hence, the people who seemingly and deep down really want to go but they feel like they're not loyal "fans" in some way if they do.
Again and as I already stated, it's merely my opinion and everyone has one. lol

I will not be part of any Pro Mike banner at the Philly show on Monday for the fact that I just want to enjoy tha damn show....and I don't think it is the right place for that.
I am not against a banner for the Houston Sam/Mike show in Oct., where I feel it will be more appropriate....since he will see it there.

I would not be surprised in the least if the band has instructed venue security, as well as their own, to confiscate any banners where Mike is mentioned.
A lot of venues won't allow banners to be displayed because it obstructs the view of other patrons, and I'm sure the band will hide behind this reasoning.

The DUMBEST stick to your guns arguement Ive heard yet. MA.
Christ, big deal.
Mike can go solo and sell out bathrooms, maybe.
And you should stay the fuck out of this thread. Stop fucking up the site with this drivel everywhere. We know you hate Mike, you're a fool. Later.
Nothing like one idiot with a banner pissing Ed off and bringing us all down for the show.
Nothing like one idiot with a keyboard and mouse doing the same thing here.
So fuckin done with you. <click>

Hey not true, I like Mike. If I had my pick, Mike would still be in. At least for this tour.
Ive met Mike, I have nothing but good thoughts for Mike. He is the nicest guy.
That being said, he's not the draw for VH and the whole arguement about not going to see VH because of it.....I find a bit childish.
You guys should lighten up. You talk about stating the truth right Brett, when it comes to Sammy. I am just stating the truth. Loosing MA is not a big deal. Wolfies a better investment for the future of VH.
I'll state my opinion anytime I want to. If you kick me out, I guess I wont.
Its just discussion and opinion, or is that only open to people that see things your way.
I'll stay out of the MA piners lounge. I did not realize my error by stepping in.
No Problem

Absolutely NOT!
After this tour, he should form a band and do his own thing.
Its gonna happen. There are PLENTY of people here with less than half a brain.
With any luck, security has been instructed to remove the banner, AND the idiots holding it.

MA Lovers, stay the FUCK HOME.
