Hey guys, I'm new the the fourm.
The show supposedly starts at 9:00pm. Any idea when the will call window opens and when the doors open?
I'm trying to imagine 400-500 people trying to pick-up will call tickets and I see a long wait ahead of us.
Can't wait for the show!

Oh hell I messed up. Memorial Day comes early this year...I thought it was the weekend of the CF show...it ain't. lol That may be a good thing. Less traffic.
Anyways a game plan is coming together for a pre show linkers meet up.
With will call GA tix and the show starting at 9:00pm I guess most will want to hit the TLA by 8:00pm ish. I personally am not that worried about standing in line forever trying to get as close to the stage as possible. There won't be a bad spot in the place really. So I hope to meet up around 6ish and hit the TLA by 8:30 personally.
Anyone know if there is an opening act?
A couple of us will post some details next week. Just a fyi for those going and into it.
Peace

Atomicpunk and I are gonna try and meet up at a Guitar Store called Bluebond. Its on 4th Street right off of South.
Its a cool meca for us gearheads. We haven't figured a time yet. It all depends on when were gonna get in line for our tix.

My wife and I are going to this show coming from Pittsburgh and she's worried what kind of area we'll be in, being that it's South Philly. Can anybody from there give me something reassuring to say to her? And is it easy to get cabs in that part of town? If anyone from Philadelphia can please let me know it'd be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
P.S. Holy shit am I excited! Holy shit am I excited!

I've never tried, but I imagine cabs are easier to find than parking spots, which tend to be rare. I don't recall parking garages around there, but that would be the way to go. We're trying to figure out that angle ourselves. I'm tempted to park at one of the airport lots and cab it in.
Crimewise, that area isn't too bad. The people tend to look freakish on South Street, but I think that's more show than action. We usually go up that way a couple times a year and haven't had any problems. The crime areas tend to be concentrated more north and south.

I hope to be at Bluebond at 6 ish. Hour or so in shop..hit a pub/bar on the way to the tla...tix window by 8-830 I'm thinking. People will line up early. Likely b4 8pm. There is a dude opening for them it appears. So it's a matter of if you want to wait early to get as close as possible or just whatever. I'm kinda whatever..I'd love to land a spot on the bar.. that line of seats by the railing overlooking the floor side. Thats a decent location. There is a balcony too. It's going to be a clusterfuk either way but a fun one. lol Going to call the Tla to see when the ticket window opens etc.
I'm at the mercy now of my bud's work schedule. I'll call u soon to iron it out man. I'm excited. The vids posted so far are sweet. Satch is ripping it up.:headbang:

You will be fine and will find a taxi. Just don't wander too far into a side street you have no idea where you are going etc. If you stay on that main strip where the people are you'll be fine. South street on a fri night is busy, there will be people, taxis and cops around. Maybe google a philly cab number b4 you go just in case...as comfort to her that you will not be stranded lol. Well here you go print out a page or two and stick it in her purse. Security blanket for her.:) Hope to see you down there if you want to meet up prior 4 a drink. Peace

Dude, this area is totally safe. Lots of people of all kinds, plenty of cops. The neighborhoods to both the north and south are actually quite posh (I know that sounds gay). If you go about 5 blocks south from there, there are some projects but you have no reason to go down there.
There will be cabs all over the place - no need to even call one.

I'm so excited for this show I'll be wishing this coming week away every minute. I hope a few more tracks leak this week because I want to be able to obsess over the music before the show. As great as it will be to be surprised, nothing beats singing along with the band to every word.
Anyway, see you all at the show. Can't wait.

Im doin the opposite.
I havent listened to a thing yet.
Way back in the day, before the days of MTV, a band would put out an album and tour. Youd hear the tunes during the show, dig it, then buy their album.
Im kinda reflecting on the good old days.

Where's a good place to park there? I know it's street parking and Philly doesn't ticket, they just tow (nice), but I heard there are lots pretty close. Any advice as to where and ballpark price would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Where staying at a Sheraton(city center) there is a lot accross the street that is supposed to be cheap? I dunno for sure.
Railrunner130
05.27.09, 02:29 PM
I think you can park right in front of the Sheraton. You may have to hunt for a spot though. That area has a lot of old, brick streets that aren't in very good condition, so be careful. Good location for the concert though.
Where is the pre show party at?:bounce:

Ok all here is the game plan for a meet up.
AT 6:00pm
Ron and I(Steve) plan to meet up at Bluebond Guitars (http://www.bluebondguitars.com/Bluebond/Home.html)
Ron is an amazing guitar builder and makes an outstanding EVH Franky replica. Since we are both guitar junkies/players we are meeting there 1st to check out his creation and the shop. Ron highly recommends this shop as a place to check out. Also I really want to try the Franky. lol If any of you going are guitarists etc you may be into that as well. All of you are invited to join us there.
After that around 7:00pm were going to head into Blareny South (http://www.southstreet.com/index.php?option=com_mtree&task=viewlink&link_id=322&Itemid=13)
This pub is next door to the TLA. (http://www.livenation.com/venue/theater-of-the-living-arts-tickets) Thats why we picked it.
The show starts at 9:00pm.
The guit shop is within reasonable walking distance from the TLA.
With the pub next the TLA this seems like a very convenient location.
It may be busy as hell but hopefully this works out. :)
The TLA box office will be opened pretty much all day. From what I understand you could pick up your tickets anytime after 12:00 pm up until the show begins. My plan is to park. get the tix, meet up with Ron and you all, then get in line for the show around 8 ish..maybe later. It's a small club and although I want a great location it's going to be a little nuts with General Admission. I personally don't want to wait in line for 2 hours but if some of you do...you could still join us for a drink b4 hand then get in line.:) There won't be a bad spot in the TLA so either up close or further back it's going to be a great time.
To make it even easier to meet up PM me with a cell # and well give you a call once were down there. I don't want to post further personal info or cell numbers in this general thread so Pm Ron4406 or myself if you want an extra way to make sure you catch/locate us.
I'm looking forward to meeting up with you all! A round of shots will be on me! lol It will be cool to meet whoever goes and drink to your health. :)
Hope to see some of you. Either way have an awesome time! It's not often you get to see this level of HOF talent in such a small intimate club!:bounce: :headbang:
Peace!

I called the TLA yesterday. Just got a machine. They said the ticket window opens daily at 12pm and stays open late when a show is going on. My email for my will call tix doesn't say anything about what time you can get them. I'm assuming you can get them earlier in the day but call to be sure. Either way we should all be at the pub by 7 after the guit shop and the TLA is right there.
I'll check this one more time around 5pm before heading out if anyone wants to pm a cell or get a # to call to help locate us. Look for the Greek guy, 6 foot, shoulder length brown hair, jeans, and a black Eagles cap..Eagles letters in white. lol If meeting us at the guitar shop it will be easier, look for the guys with the EVH Frankenstrat replica.
7 hours till the show!:bounce: Anyone excited yet!? :)

Just got in. Apologies to those who tried to meet up but didn't make it /catch up with us. I personally didn't get any cell numbers so I had no way to contact anyone besides Ron. We were late but the owner of the guitar shop and bartenders at the pub didn't know about anyone looking for people from the links or meet up, they said no one inquired so I'm hoping whoever showed interest but didn't meet up with us had a great time. I hope you had an awesome time with little hassle. Traffic getting in was a bitch..The thunderstorms and an accident slowed traffic down big time... so instead of being at the guit shop at 6 and bar at 7 we ended up at the guitar shop at 7 ish, the bar at 740 ish and lined up for the show at 8 40 ish.
I gotta say Ron is the fucking man. Not just a cool dude, fellow VH fan. a new brother 2 me, and fellow CVH fanatic.. he makes the best Frankenstrat out there. No one makes one better. Amazing. don't settle for anyone else. I tried to honor his creation by playing Eruption, Spanish Fly, Women in love, Girl Gone Bad, Hot 4 Teacher, Running with the Devil, Mean Street and Secrets along with other stuff. Despite being cold fingered right out of a long car ride, not warmed up and trying to nail high levels jams...Ron's guitar was beautiful. the more I played it the more I wanted to stay there and keep playing it! lol The Guit shop owner was kind enough to entertain us and hook us up with a marshall jcm 900 half stack to jam on which was nice of him.
Ok so the CF show. I'm still thinking about Club Risque afterwards lol but CF was kick ass. It's genuine.100% I LOVED it as did my friend who isn't up to speed on CF's music. Ron totally dug it as well.
The band had a lot of fire an energy. Natural.:thumb: Satch is a god. Chad was amazing!!!!
Mike, well as much as I love VH, CVH and VH4 ED is an idiot for not staying with Mike. He was awesome! Sam? the dude is 61 and he can teach a whole generation of wannabe rockers how to do it right. Sammy killed it. AWESOME SHOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry I didn't take pics or video. I thought I would but in the heat of the moment I simply enjoyed the moment. Plus I don't have a Phone thats uber so I just nvm'd it. My buddy took some pics and video, I'll post it if I can get it from him in a timley manner.
An amazing show. We were at the upstairs balcony and loved it!!!!!!!!!
Don't hate me... I liked VH4 a lot more but CF kicked serious ass tonight.
I'm also proud of Philly fans. We kicked their asses! Loud crowd all into it. CF was feeling the love in Philly!!!
Peace!!!!!!!!!!!!

Man.
What a night.
I coulda stayed at BlueBond for another hour to hear that shread.
Its so cool to see and hear someone who can wail like Atomic Punk romp one of my axes. And he was wailin my 6 year old demo!
Superior shreading by a badass dude. That is a cool spot.
Now that I've seen the band live, I can listen to all the stuff posted here snag the CD.
Those clowns were amazing.
The key thing I liked about it was they all looked like they were havin fun the whole show. Lottsa laughs.
And the "stick warmer" was hot too.

Oh man.. That was incredible!!!
Chad Smith really stole the show in my opionion. Not to take anything away from the rest of the band, but man he really put out. What a showman!
The Rock Candy tease really erked me, but I was really glad they played Bad Motor Scooter!
Did I hear him say something about coming back in July?
Who was the opening act? He has pretty good, but didn't announce himself and wasn't introduced either.

Wow, what a show! First of all, there is no bad spot in the TLA. I haven't been there in 10 years and I forgot. Great venue.
Now to the show, the band is incredible. Sam set as usual. The energy level and musicianship can't be matched. I loved the Sam/ Mike harmonies. It makes you think back to the VH days. Mike is still the man. He ran around the stage and had some incredibly heavy bass lines. His vocals...enough said.
I can't believe Sammy is 61. It's amazing that he can still sing like that with such power. His stage presence always gets the fans involved. The fans were great singing harmonies in some songs and everyone was in to it. He did say "this was the best show of the tour" He said we were the only show where the fans cheered CHICKENFOOT before they took the stage.
Joe just flat out smokes in every song. The videos on youtube don't do him justice. There really is a lot more going on when you see him live. The only weak performance was Learning to Fall, which seemed like a sloppy sound. It just seemed off somehow. I think I appeciate his soloing more in this full band context during breaks in the songs as opposed to his instrumental stuff. The solos just fit.
Chad Smith? I have to admit that I'm not a RHCP fan, but this guy blew me away. He is one powerful drummer. He really attacks the drum kit live. He must have thrown 20 drum sticks into the crowd. His chatter during the show is actually funny. At the end, he asked if everyone got a drum stick? No Chad, where is mine? Before bringing up a drum stick warmer (a rather HEALTHY young lady) to sit next to him before the first encore, he grabbed Joe's guitar and started playing it. Then Sammy started playing his drums and jammed with Mike.
These guys are just plain fun. If you can't enjoy their music or the live show, then you should stop listening to music right now. I hope this band can stay together for a while and not end up Down the Drain.

I agree the TLA and South Street is such a cool venue and fun place to catch a show. It's been a while since we've been to the TLA. What a great time. I only wish I could have bought more tickets to have taken my wife and more friends.
Thats cool what Sam said about Philly chanting CF b4 they came out...after he said that the whole place started to chant it again even louder. lol Philly is a great music and sports town. Despite what you hear, so many passionate positive people here that love their music and rock and roll. I've seen all the vids of the other shows. Those crowds were great too but you had to see the looks the band was giving each other...the crowd in Philly was awesome.
One of my favorite little moments of the show was before they even played a tune...when the music began to rumble and the cool licks Joe was laying down. Joe Satriani really makes CF something else. Wow. His tone is huge live, very warm and lethal..his performance is not just flawless but jaw dropping good. Very tasty player. Not just flash for flash. he's so musical and soulful with his bizarrely wild guitar antics.
My friend called today and left 3 messages b4 I could get back to him...He wanted to know the name of that "deep purple" song they played. lol Those covers they play really do kick ass. Nothing like seeing this type of show live.
I suggest anyone remotely into this band to check them out when they do their proper tour. For those of you in Europe...wow those would be fun shows. You guys will have an awesome time with CF.
I can't find one thing to say about CF that was mediocre or boring.
I was very pleased that there was NO VH digs, comments nothing. The high road is the way to go. Sam worried me cause he's dug up dirty laundry in the past. Not this time, it's all positive and all CF. I'm proud of him for that and like the band and enjoyed the experience that much more for it.
Exceptional band, music, performance and vibe. Very positive high energy rock and roll. Does it get better than that for a rock show on a fri night?

Closest I've ever been to Sammy & Mike! 10 on a 10 scale show! The new songs sounded amazing as expected. Satch is unreal live and Smith makes it feel like the party days of Van Hagar '86-'93 again, especially with the creative "drum stick holder" performance. "Highway Star" was cool as shit, and of course so was "Bad Motor Scooter" as always, but I would've encored with:
Summer Song
Give It Away
Top of the World
...and a different cover--but no complaints obviously! Sammy on drums for a couple seconds was interesting to say the lesat. Great crowd in Philly, and am shitting my pants over the rumored 8/5 show, right down the street from my place!
Stayed after the show to F-I-N-A-L-L-Y get my chance to meet Sammy and Mike, but I guess they took off right away. I heard they were taking over Philly's rock radio station for an hour and that's why. We stayed out front where all the rigs were, but was there some kind of back entrance? We were right about to go around the horn to the back and some guy told us they just left, and surely enough we saw the limos going by. This was like only 20 minutes after the show. Philly people: was there access to a back entrance for fans or just the official people?
CHICKENFOOT FOREVER!!!!!!!
