View Full Version : OPENING SONG, REALISTIC SET LIST, MAYBE 1-2 DEEP CUTS???

OK, apologies if there's a thread on this. This is NOT a fantasy dream set list, however one that is plausible, given:
1) VH past performances with Dave
2) Tunes Dave has done live recently
3) Possibly, consider songs with minimal backing vox, but not a requirement
4) Throw in 1-2 deep cuts, since we probably won't get more than that.
5)Limit the set list to no more than 17 songs.
I personally would like to be proven wrong, but I don't see a 'totally out of left field' set list like we got on the III tour, where it was anything goes.
Here's my 2 cents --in order
1. UNCHAINED
2. HOT FOR TEACHER
3. ROMEO DELIGHT
4. RUNNIN WITH THE DEVIL
ALEX SOLO
5. MEAN STREET
6. EVERYBODY WANTS SOME
7. PANAMA
8. HEAR ABOUT IT LATER ** DEEP CUT
9. DANCE THE NIGHT AWAY
10. CRADLE WILL ROCK
11. SOMEBODY GET ME A DOCTOR
EDDIE AND WOLFGANG SOLO SECTION (Poss with Alex playing along)
12. IN A SIMPLE RHYME (Cream in my pants DEEP CUT)
13. JAMIE'S CRYIN
14. LITTLE GUITARS
ENCORE
15. YOU REALLY GOT ME/HAPPY TRAILS
16. AIN'T TALKIN BOUT LOVE
ENCORE 2
17. JUMP
Feel free to run with it!

I would be surprized if they played "In a Simple rhyme".
I would love to hear Romeo Delight as the opener but I wouldn't be surprised if it was Everybody Wants Some. with the drums and guitar opening it.

MAYBE I SHOULD CLARIFY. When I said 'DEEP CUT' I meant a song you really dont think they WOULD play, but you REALLY WANT THEM TO PLAY IT. THANKS

I hope for the love of God they drop the 'everybody must solo' crap....a bass solo is silly....the drum solo can be and extended part of a song....and Eddie..lets face it...I only went in 2004 to see him....so his solo spot is fine...hopefully he'll play it better this summer than he did in 2004.

even when mike was in the band, the only one deserving a solo is eddie. in rush, only neil peart takes one, and the others are no slouches. bands like yes, which is loaded with top-notch players doesn't even have any. i am all for ZERO solos and a 21 song set list--OR MORE

Give that man a cigar. I like that choice a lot for the opener and I'd also figure that in as a deep cut I guess.
I'd really like to see them play Drop Dead Legs as my other deep cut choice.
I really don't want to open a whole new kettle of fish here, but I would actually prefer that they stay away from songs with a lot of harmonizing like In a Simple Rhyme. I'd miss hearing Mikey, and I'm not sure that they could do a song like that justice without his background vocals. Just a personal opinion.

W/O a doubt, I think "Simple Rhyme" is their most underrated song, musically, lyrically, BAR NONE. The radio releases were chosen more for the "party lifestyle". Whiskey & EBWS stand on their own, but tell me ATCWR kicks Simple's ass? Hell no! Kinda reminds me of VH meets Zep, sorta
(end soapbox here)
Another good deepcut would be Little guitars ;)

Probably just your standard greatest hits VH set with most cuts pulled from VHI & 1984 similar to the 84 tour. Maybe a few deep cuts since Ross H mentioned they were rehershing I'm the One & AP.
What I'd like to hear: Romeo, Feel your love tonight, Mean Street, DDL, House of Pain, LUTS, On fire.

01.31.07, 09:08 AM
I'm sure it will be the hits for the most part. VH is a top 40 band now so I wouldn't expect many non-radio friendly songs. No money in tour featuring a lot of 'deep cuts'. Not to say the die hard 40-50 something VH fans wouldn't love to hear some of those old songs but this tour has to draw in the 20-30 somethings casual fans too. The one's going just to say they saw VH. I could be wrong but I doubt it.
When speaking of originals remember ICM is not an original either.

Oh there will be plenty of teenagers and 20 year olds going to these shows with the Daddies...rockin out to this half-assed show.
Hell I'll be there rockin' out as well, but not with my Daddie. I'd almost prefer if kids couldn't go to this because they are all going to think that they have seen Classic Van Halen.

I'm all for Everybody Wants Some as an opener. Somehow it seems like RWTD would be a way to bring Wolfie onboard.

Let's attack this from a different angle: We know we're going to hear/see Jump (unfortunately), Panama, You Really Got Me, Unchained, Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love. So there's 5 songs right there.
We should also see:
Mean Street, Runnin' With the Devil, Ice Cream Man, Jamie's Cryin', Dance the Night Away, Somebody Get Me a Doctor. That makes 11 songs.
Other possibilities: Romeo Delight, Hot For Teacher, Women In Love, Intruder/Pretty Woman.
I believe they said they'd been rehearsing 14 or 15 songs. And we know (at least) Eddie and Alex will have solos.
I would love to see: ME WISE MAGIC, Everybody Wants Some, Atomic Punk, D.O.A., Dirty Movies, Sinners Swing.

i said it in another thread, but I think the setlist will be pretty much a carbon copy of what DLR has been doing live with his cover band with a couple songs mixexd up instead of the DLR solo stuff.
W/O a doubt, I think "Simple Rhyme" is their most underrated song, musically, lyrically, BAR NONE. Yes. YES.
Its too bad I can't get excited about this tour due to the Mike situ.
Can't do Simple Rhyme either without him. Vocals are way to important on that number.

I say they open with Everybody Wants Some...The "deep cuts" are tough though. Many of those "deep cuts" are tunes Dave has been playing on his solo tours (HFT, On Fire, DOA, etc.) The bottom line is though, that there are many certainties to what they will play:
You Really Got Me
Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love
Runnin' With the Devil
Dance the Night Away
Everybody Wants Some
Unchained
Pretty Woman
Jump
Panama
Hot For Teacher
That's 10 certainties right there. Follow that up with the quite likely's:
Jamie's Cryin'
I'm the One
SGMAD
Ice Cream Man
We've got 4-5 "deep cut" opportunities tops, my guesses are:
On Fire (actual "deep cut")
Beautiful Girls
So This Is Love?
Little Guitars
Drop Dead legs
I would not be surprised if the setlist is basically the 1984 Tour all over again.
I almost want to see them play Runnin with the Devil to open the show because I'd love to see Wolfie screw up that opening low E bass riff.
Or...
to have the backing bass track to start skipping...:D
but in all seriousness I would actually love for them to play The Full Bug, for some reason...probably for that slow seciton right after Dave plays the harmonica...it's in all of the live versions of the song...

I agree with the latter... probably the most realistic setlist that we might see.
I HONESTLY could not think of a better setlist. I mean I was going to post about Me Wise Magic being a great closing song.:thumb:
I'd bet my ticket that this is going to be the closest thing to the actual setlist.;)
However, the I'm So Glad after SGMAD...would be a little TOO nostalgic. I'd love to hear it... but I don't want them to RECREATE 1983 and 1984 all over again.

But whats the difference, I guess,... what matters is if they play it or not.
My Deep Cuts:
Atomic Punk (very likely)
Sinners Swing
Drop Dead Legs
Loss of Control
A "deep cut" is not something that's rarely played in concerts, its something that's never gotten radio play that a casual fan would thus not know. Therefore, On Fire and Little Guitars are "deep cuts," as opposed to Drop Dead Legs or So This Is Love?, which do receive radio play.

Deep cuts --
Drop Dead Legs
Hear About It Later
Sinners Swing
Dirty Movies
As far as covers go -- maybe Wolfie will inspire them to try something a little different on this front, something like
Baby One More Time (certainly dave can sing it if britney can), or possibly

Here's a list of VH songs that Dave has done live, broken down by album, since the failed reunion of 96. I'm probably missing one or two:
Ice Cream Man
Ain't Talkin' Bout Love
Runnin' With The Devil
You Really Got Me `
Atomic Punk
Little Dreamer
I'm the One
Dance The Night Away
Beautiful Girls
DOA
Somebody Get Me A Doctor
And The Cradle Will Rock
Everybody Wants Some
Unchained
Mean Street
So This is Love
Little Guitars
Pretty Woman
Hot For Teacher
Panama
Jump
Here's a couple of other Roth-era songs that VH did on the III tour:
Feel Your Love Tonight
Jamie's Cryin'
Romeo Delight
I'm guessing the setlist will include most of these songs.

I want Dave to take a shot at Hagar...I want to see him mock that son of a bitch. He should start to sing some piece of shit Van Hagar song then stop himself and go "Oh wait, this is a Van Halen concert!"

here's what you do..
dust off your copies of US Festival and Montreal 1984
now, erase the 1-2 obscure Diver Down songs and take away "I'll Wait" and "Girl Gone Bad"
once you got that edited down watch it 40 times
there's your tour:thumb:

The concert should open with Ed's solo.
He can rip around for 7-10 minutes...get the crowd into a frenzy, and then boom...start with Unchained.
Sorry If that was posted already...I don't have the time to get through 5 pages of posts..though I did see some of the set list ideas...and I like most of them.

Dave was always the one who wanted to do cover tunes and Ed resisted.
Now VH has the argument that Dave can "cover" some Hagar tunes. If he does, I don't think they will go deep or far. Hagar sings too high for DLR on many tunes. However, a couple stand out, if they actually do it:
1. "Finish What You Started" has that kind of soulful groove that DLR showed on "Take Your Whiskey Home". I could easily see DLR doing this one.
2. "Summer Nights" maybe changed back to DLRs original lyrics. If Ed can play it.
3. "Runaround" reminds me of a DLR track in embryo. I would like to see what Dave would do with this.
I seriously doubt there's any likelihood of hearing "When It's Love", "Why Can't This Be Love", "Love Walks In" or "Dreams" though. They just lack the humor and attitude of a song DLR would sing. Plus, DLR probably couldn't sing them even if he wanted to.

True.... and remember for the "Classic Rock Radio" buzz to be sustained throughout this tour, it has got to stick to the radio-friendly hits that casual fans, of all ages can easily relate to. The band plays all the hits, the release is all the hits, and radio, plays all the hits... The two "systems", VH and Radio, validate each other, in a way I like to describe as mutual fellatio!! Aerosmith does a great job of this.... Oh, what a dirge of commercial hits, and, those 'wonderful' cover songs that hit rock radio will heavily morph into as VH draws near your town ! !
If the tour turns out to be so entertaining.... then film it like a concert (and not a f#@king MTV video), and release it on DVD. If it's that good, then the vibe will carry over to the film. And then, you can extract, even more money from all of those wonderful casual fans, and, all of us who won't spring for this Cavalcade of Hits Tour.

I'd love to hear DOA, Light up the sky, Hear About It Later, Drop Dead Legs, and In a Simple Rhyme...oh, and Me Wise Magic (wonder if they'll play that?). It would be cool if Eddie threw in a couple new songs out the 10 albums' worth he's supposedly got stashed away.
I think they should open with Mean Street.
They should play "I'm the One" with Eddie and Dave trading the chorus, since they both have such big egos.
I wonder if Dave will want to throw in Yankee Rose or something?

I've got it listed in my files as being from "After Zero" but it could be listed wrong....if it's not, it's mixed in the WB demos.
I'm showing like 14 or 15 tunes from that bootleg, and I don't think there were that many on the WB demos, maybe 10 to 12 tunes , so it might be mislabeled.

The back-up bass and vocal tracks are more easily cued if you are doing the same set each and every night ! !
I have always thought that "On Fire" was a stupid way to start a VH show. They did that back in '78, and it was a big let down.....
You open with a strong, strong, track...... I'm sorry, but "On Fire" is weak compared to many their stronger tracks, off of just VH I alone.
But this tour is all about the casual fans and "hits" so whatever... I won't be there to witness a "Greatest Commerical Hits" affair.... But, I still know what a great Hard Rock band would open there show with, and it is -NOT- "On Fire".... What a rip-off!! :yell:

"On Fire" is one of the Vh boys greqatest tunes, especially in the "hard stuff" category!!
This song captured the essence of Vh at the time as a hard- hittin, sense of humor , rock band, full of piss and vinegar!

Obviously if they play that is one thing...but I seriously doubt that will happen.
In a sad way, Sammy, Davd and Mike being there without the VH brothers would almost be fitting as a representation of the craziness of the band. Not the best outcome mind you, but maybe the karma one.

That leaves maybe 5-7 deeper cuts. Assuming they choose some of the same songs that Dave has been doing solo and that VH did in 1998, what does that leave?

What about Dave though? I know when I saw him on Sam/Dave tour he did(in addition to what's already listed): Little Dreamer, DOA, So This Is Love?, Pretty Woman.

I think having Jump be the first song in the encore makes sense.

I'm going to operate under the assumption that they'll do 20 songs. I'm going to divide my set into 10 songs(in bold) that they will almost have to play for the casual fans, and 10 songs I'd like to hear that aren't as obvious.

Dave cannot sing Me Wise Magic live and EVH 316 is not really 18!!
Actually if you were familiar with the song at all (which obviously you aren't) you'd notice all the verses are very low, the choruses Dave would be able to do decently (especially after his performances last year, they were great) and with the help of Ed and Wolfgang (and maybe something else) it would be fine.

you can rattle off 15 songs without even having to think.
pretty much pop in the US Festival video then add Panama Hot for Teacher and Jump and you just about have the whole setlist.

this list was posted on the yahoo mailing list as the rumored songs they are working on. Nothing shocking about them. All of the obvious choices. I just wonder how many of those are "have to play every nights" and how many of them could be switched in and out every night with other great songs like Dirty Movies, Top Jimmy, etc..
Runnin' With the Devil
You Really Got Me
Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love
Ice Cream Man

Everybody Wants Some!!
Jamie's Cryin'

If I was in charge of their setlist I'd trade out "feel your love tonight" for maybe "I'm the One" and "Beautiful Girls" with maybe "Drop Dead Legs" or something rare like that. That group of songs will probably be it. I just hope they open with Deuce! lol

Everybody Wants Some would be an original opening. Sounds good to me. I just need to hear And the Cradle Will Rock and Drop Dead Legs live to be happy.
I personally think INTRUDER would be a cool opening with the lights out , this way Wolfie can get the crowd warmed up to what he can do ...there is a good bit of bass in the beginning of that song, then when the song kicks in the light go on and the party begins

i thought dave has said that he threw that one together himself on a synthesizer when they needed to fill space to have enough music for the video they had come up with for (oh) pretty woman...

If Eddie did decide to play "Yankee Rose", it'd be the best "Yankee Rose" we've ever heard without question! I love that song, it's my favorite one that Dave's ever done as a solo thing. :thumb:

i think "everybody wants some" would make a great opener, but i doubt that it will be the kickoff song...
there's no way "jump" isn't the closer... dave refers to it as his signature song... (then again, i've also heard him refer to it incorrectly on his radio as "might as well jump")...
i for one would love to hear ed play "spanish fly" into "could this be magic?", but i know ed isn't particularly fond of playing acoustic...
my sleeper choice for a deeper cut is "tora tora/loss of control," which i would even pick as a set opener... i think it's a great song that's often overlooked and people forget that there was a video for it (for which i hope a clean copy shows up on a proper dvd collection one day)...

Dave said Wolf picked 25 songs and from that I think based on what Wolfgang likes from the classics, I believe a lot of his choices had to go hand and hand with the video’s he saw with Dave (ie:bootlegs to MTV videos)
I think someone said the set list could be affected based on what Dave’s been singing with the DLR Band the past couple of years. I agree and Dave's certainly had a lot of practice singing the obvious Van Halen tracks.
So from that point of view here this is what the set list might look like in a 25 song/2hr+ concert!

Thanks.
I was going to choose Romeo Delight to open but I think they'll let Wolfie get the jitters out opening the concert with RWTD thumping, lol, especially on opening night!
I think if Sammy was given his solo spot all those times, Dave should be comfortable to sing something simple. I was going to say 'Just A Gigolo' (or 'Yankee Rose' but has Vai written all over it though), but that's a little too extreme for a VH concert, lol. I do think Dave gets away with playing 'California Girls'.
Anything off Fair Warning is fine with me but again, the video influence ('Hear About It Later') of those Oakland shows possibly with Wolf and what the band represented with his Dad back in the day. However I would LOVE to hear the deep cut 'Sunday Afternoon In The Park' and go right into 'One Foot Out The Door'! I remember hearing SAITP on the Fair Warning tour, which was bliss!
Whatever they play is going to awesome! And nothing after 1984 is even better!

It's missing some faves, like most of the songs on "Fair Warning," but just trying to be somewhat realistic. I know the "Beat It" solo and Eddie, Alex and Wolfie jamming a brief instrumental version of those rotated Sammy-era songs are bit of a stretch, but what the fuck. I hope they at least play part of "MWM," and that's why I threw it in with "ATBL" in medley form, you know, maybe a little bit during the breakdown. I would image EVH and WVH would be doing their solo together, like Steve and Billy on the "EEAS Tour." "Drop Dead Legs" is a must! Maybe rotate the openers with "On Fire (vox will be a little rough on that one but so what)," the obvious "Unchained," and a great idea: "Everybody Wants Some!!" Anways, I think "YRGM" would be the best choice because it was their first single. I would be cool to hear some unreleased songs of course, or obviously a new one, but there won't be any complaining over here! Shit, they can play a two-hour version of "Big Bad Bill (Is Sweet William Now)" for the show and that's it and I'll still be beyond happy! Spot light on VH jr as he plucks his bass to intro of Runnin w/Devil.
Looking out over a stoned crowd, with a "man Mike looks young" look on their faces.
Might as well make him mess his shorts during the opening number.

This will be my 19th VH show. My first show was in 79' and caught them at the US fest with 340,000 friends and in Vegas during the diver down tour at the old Aladdin theater with 2,500 fans.
VH provided the soundtrack of my youth. I gained my manhood with VH II on the 8-track. I hope this tour doesn't give me a flash back of waking up to a fat chick instead.
Can Roth keep his shit together?

Thought I was saying Goodbye to Edward 3 years ago. Guess not.
To be a teen in the late 70's was the best . No AIDS, drinking age was 18 and
and Van Halen Ruled. I've seen everyone from AC/DC to ZZ TOP. I would put Van Halen's
79' World Vacation
80' Invasion
82' Hide your sheep tours as some of the best shows I've seen.
To bad what I paid for a ticket back then won't even buy me a beer at the show next month.

I have come to the conclusion/revelation, that VH need to play the entire 1st album, and the entire last album. That's about an hour and a half worth of music. They can then play whatever suits them from the other albums . . . .
It should be done to honor the 30th Anniv. of VH I, and to honor their most recent album with DLR.
Do it
Well with what i have heard about wolfies bass solo, this is the set list i am thinking they are doing, also heard that wolfie is choosing the set list.

this is a cd-r i threw together that would satisfy me as a setlist (although it's missing a lot of obvious songs; keep in mind i could only fit so much in under 80 minutes picking personal faves!):

Intruder/(Oh) Pretty Woman

How will they do "On Fire"? That song won't see the light of day except for VH tribute bands.
On Fire was part of the setlist for the 1984 tour was it not, i always thought that it was a concert staple i could be wrong, with the sammy years i would say this would never be played but im just having this feeling that they are going to play it.
I think "Atomic Punk" would be a good opener. Lights dim, Ed appears center stage playing the opening riff....I don't know if they played it live back in the day, having never seen the DLR era live.

I don't know if Wolfgang is up to the task, but I think someone earlier in the thread mentioned doing a bass solo together with Ed's solo.
I know some people will say that no one should be with Ed while the King solo's, but man, Ed's solo really hasn't changed much since 82, and one of the absolute highlights of Dave's EEAS Tour was the Billy Sheehan/Steve Vai combination solo spot. Not trying to say that Wolfgang is Billy Sheehan, just saying that it might be cool and different.
As long as Ed doesn't cry at the end.

All the lists are good so I won't repeat anything, but we all know the CVH tour format and I doubt it will change.
3 songs, drum solo, 3 or 4 more songs, bass solo, 3 or 4 more songs, guitar solo, two songs, then Dave raps a little bit into Ice Cream Man, couple more tunes, lights out, encore of Jump and Ain't Talkin Bout Love, good night, God Bless You, drive safe blah blah blah, end of show.

OK, apologies if there's a thread on this. This is NOT a fantasy dream set list, however one that is plausible, given:
1) VH past performances with Dave
2) Tunes Dave has done live recently
3) Possibly, consider songs with minimal backing vox, but not a requirement
4) Throw in 1-2 deep cuts, since we probably won't get more than that.
5)Limit the set list to no more than 17 songs.
I personally would like to be proven wrong, but I don't see a 'totally out of left field' set list like we got on the III tour, where it was anything goes.
Here's my 2 cents --in order
1. UNCHAINED
2. HOT FOR TEACHER
3. ROMEO DELIGHT
4. RUNNIN WITH THE DEVIL
ALEX SOLO
5. MEAN STREET
6. EVERYBODY WANTS SOME
7. PANAMA
8. HEAR ABOUT IT LATER ** DEEP CUT
9. DANCE THE NIGHT AWAY
10. CRADLE WILL ROCK
11. SOMEBODY GET ME A DOCTOR
EDDIE AND WOLFGANG SOLO SECTION (Poss with Alex playing along)
12. IN A SIMPLE RHYME (Cream in my pants DEEP CUT)
13. JAMIE'S CRYIN
14. LITTLE GUITARS
ENCORE
15. YOU REALLY GOT ME/HAPPY TRAILS
16. AIN'T TALKIN BOUT LOVE

17. JUMP

I didn't think it was a good opener in '78, and, I still think it's at the bottom of the list on what I like from the debut LP.

THAT WOULD BE A KICK-ASS SHOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was talking over the weekend with 2 neighbors of mine. 1 is early 60's the other late 40's. Anyway we got on the topic of Van Halen and the older one told me how he saw them in Providence, RI in 1978 and the thing he remembers most was how loud it was and that it shook his insides. The other one was telling me how he saw them in Hartford in 1979 and Dave made a joke about doing some disco when he was up on stage alone to do Icecream Man and people in the audience started throwing quarters and lighters and beers at him so they ended the show right then and there. Just a couple little stories I thought I would pass on.

Unfortunatley or fortunatley however you look at it, I think that we will probably be hearing what was on Best Of Both Worlds greatest hits cd as far as the Dave material goes. If I recall correctly Dave said something during the press conference about hearing all the great hits you never thought you would hear again. I hope I am wrong because I really don't need to hear Panama, Jump and Ain't talkin bout love again.

I am going to assume that there will be no "Sammy" songs on the tour whatsoever (though I think Dave COULD pull off FWYS, but why bother if that's the only one they could do.)
It has been reported that Wolfie is in charge of the set list, so although I think it will include many classics, the way and the order that we approach the songs are being seen through the eyes of a 16 year old. There may be some surprises as far as usual playlist order.
Wikipedia lists a couple new songs for the tour, and while I'm not ruling it out, I'm not banking on it and if they are rehearsing new songs, those are likely to change as well, so my set list is based entirely on Dave-songs that have already been made public.
Panama
Eruption/You Really Got Me
Unchained
Everybody Wants Some
Mean Streets
Romeo Delight
Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love
Beautiful Girls
The Full Bug (or Hang 'Em High- my pick for Deep Cut)
Jamie's Cryin'
Ice Cream Man
Runnin' With The Devil
Can't Get This Stuff No More
Dance The Night Away
So This Is Love
Hot For Teacher
Encores:
Little Guitars
(Oh) Pretty Woman
Jump/Happy Trails
I have not included the obligatory solo breaks, but I'm sure Ed and Al will have their solos somewhere along the line. I do expect a brief bass solo from Wolfie, but chances are it will be a quick intro to something like RWTD and not an overly long focal point.
I truly hope they don't use pre-recorded backing vocals to augment Mike's departure from VH. If they can't figure out a way to work without him in a live setting by rearringing songs to fit their current talent, then they should not be performing. Period.

THOSE ARE THE "HITS" THAT I CAN STAND TO HEAR AGAIN (Since the last VH Tour in 1984....)
HERE'S WHAT I DO NOT NEED TO HEAR AGAIN:
YRGM - Just Say NO
RWTD - Just Say NO
DANCE THE NIGHT AWAY - Just Say NO
(OH) PRETTY WOMAN - Just Say NO
I'LL WAIT  - Please, Just Say NO
DANCING IN THE STREET - Pretty Please, Just Say NO

IMO, the opening song will either be "Unchained" or "Hot For Teacher". The setlist will be 95% greatest hits of VH Mach 1 and the deeper cuts will be rotated.
Of those, "D.O.A", "Romeo Delight", I'm The One" would probably be the top contenders.
We'll get a few covers, "Ice Cream Man" and "Pretty Woman" more than likely.

i don't buy that one iota... i think it was a statement made to make it look like this kid has input into the band... the only people making decisions in that band are ed, dave and alex, in that order... i'm not knocking teen wolf, but he is a kid among men in a band that is big business that he had no part in building up... it would be like (and cut me some slack for the analogy) donald trump making decisions on where to build casinos and hotels based on what his kids thought 10 years ago when they were in their teens... granted, choosing what songs to play is a lot easier than that, but i think dave and ed know what they have to play on a tour like this (minimum all the hits, including covers that did well, as well as throwing a bone with a deep cut here or there)... there is no way wolf is making any decisions about the band - NONE...

Do I BELIEVE that he is in charge of the set-list?, I am not sure. I am just saying that he was mentioned as being the ring-leader of the set-list during the rehearsals. Whether or not that rolls over into the actual show is anybody's guess.
If it DOES however, it will bring a new perspective into the order the songs are played.
We'll know soon enough . . .

given the rep of mr. spin machine dave, i really think that ed, dave and alex got together at some point and tried to come up with an idea of how to show that wolf was involved in band decisions, since he has absolutely nothing to do with the recorded legacy of the group, and b/c of the implied negative aspect of the nepotism going on here and unproven (at least publicly) musical abilities... when any other band makes a lineup change, when has there ever been a statement made that the new player is picking the songs that that band will be playing on tour? it's usually just about how talented the new guy is (which they did touch on during their PC) and how it's like to play with this person... do you think trujillo picked the metallica setlists when he replaced newsted? or lomenzo (of white lion fame and later diamond dave and bls) when he joined megadeth? there really was no reason to throw in that tidbit about wolf supposedly picking the setlists - it rang as hollow to me as when wolf tried to talk about his musical influences...
not trying to be a pain here, but i just don't buy into their statement...

I think what will be the driving factor of the songs are background vocals. Not every VH song containes impossible background vocals. The majority can be done by adequete background vocalists as long as they have decent range. It won't sound like Mike but Vic does not sound like Eddie either but he can play the parts. Heck I am not 1/4 the singer of Mike but I can sing some of his backgrounds for the band I am in and that is only having one monitor up front. Wolfgang will have multiple monitors along with some "assistance".
Here is a list of songs I think they can do with minimal problems.
You Really Got Me
Aint Talking Bout Love
Ice Cream Man
Cradle Will Rock
Everybody Wants Some
Take Your Whiskey Home
Romeo Delight
Mean Streets
Hear About It Later
So this Is Love
Unchained
Little Guitars
Full Bug
Jump
Panama
Hot For Teacher
I'll Wait
17 songs there. When you add solo's you are almost up to 120 minutes of music. I think the set list will be pretty close to what I have up there. Dance the Night Away and Beautiful Girls will probably be added with some assistance from tape.
