A friend of mine emailed Jim Koplik and he emailed him back saying that the CT show will definitely be at Mohegan Sun and it will be "early November." As of right now they have a show on 11/3 (NJ) and the next listed show is 11/13 (NY) so ya gotta figure it'll be sandwiched somewhere between those dates. :thumb:

Very cool Jimmy. I was wondering the same thing. I know a few weeks ago Jim Koplik had said on Mike Korolys show on wccc that it would happen. Now I don't have to worry about getting tickets for NY, NJ or Boston.
I had a feeling it would be between 11/3 and 11/13. Hopefully, they let us know soon.
I'd rather the show be in Hartford but Mohegan is fine too.

Well they're in Boston on 10/30 so it can just as easily fall between then and 11/3.

I'm sure the announcement will be real soon. :bounce:

That's great and thanks for the info, hope it's true... It is a much easier drive for me going to Mohegan than going into Boston, so we'd definitely hit that stop instead.

You know what a show at Mohegan Sun means, right?
It means about 1/3 of the set list will be cut in order to keep the show short. The casino wants you gambling, not watching a Van Halen concert.
I saw Sammy there in 2006. About 5 songs were dropped from the set list.

I was at the same Sammy show. I didn't think he dropped 5 songs. That seems like a lot. VH is not going to cut 1/3 of the show. That's ridiculous. So the show will be 40 minutes shorter than other shows?
Of course the casino wants you gambling, but they're open all night. That's plenty of time for you to lose your money to them. ;) The fact that you have to walk through the casino to get to (and leave) the show is enough of a temptation for them to reel you in.

Well I've seen plenty of shows at Mohegan Sun and shows never seemed to be cut short. I've seen some bands like Bowie and Yes play for over 2 hours.
On a side note on WCCC today Jim Koplik of Live Nation said for all the CT fans to save your gas money because Van Halen will be here in early november.

If you want to hear about Van Halen coming to CT click the link to the WCCC show 6 Concert Questions with Karolyi and Koplik and they go right into the Van Halen Press conference and that the show should be coming to CT. They also talk about Ozzfest. Its a good listen. Here is the link. Just hit the mp3 button to the right and it will start to play on WCCC site.

I talked with Mike Karoliy @wccc a few days ago and he said it will more than likely be announced in a few weeks. A probable date although not confirmed will be November 5th. Listen this friday @ 2:30 to WCCC or @ Wccc.com, he'll be asking Jim Koplik of Live Nation.

We hashed this all out before in a thread on the 2006 Other Half Tour forum. I realize that I did hyperbolize by saying 1/3 of the show. Sammy's show at Mohegan was cut by at least three songs in 2006.
Meanwhile, still no CT show on the docket.

I was at the Mohegan Sun show with Sammy with a buddy of mine and they definately cut it short by a few songs. I was pissed. I wanted to hear,
5150, Amsterdam and Summer Nights and they did not play any of them.
We all knew that it was cut short a bit because most people were talking about it on the way out.

I thought Sammy just substituted songs, which would have made it seem like the show was cut short. They didn't play the 3 songs that you wanted to hear because they played other ones in their place(s).
Oh well, if the show was indeed cut short, I doubt that Mohegan told him to do so.

Think they'd do CT and a 2nd show in Boston if that sells out?
sickman
08.23.07, 04:00 AM
I would think that "when" it sells out they would add a second show @ Mohegan. There so far is nothing much booked @ Mohegan. I guess it would depend on VH's schedule. You know after being there tuesday night for VR and AIC looking around the place there really aren't bad seats in the venue. The place really is so small that even if you are in the upper last row it's like being in the last row of the first section of seats in some of the bigger arenas like HCC or Worcester Centrum.
oldfan77
08.23.07, 06:40 AM
VH should certainly toss in another show at one of the "other" New England venues such as Mohegan, or the DCU Center, or etc, simply because many of the Northeast VH fans and myself included, hate going to Boston. It's just the way it is.... Mohegan is a very nice venue---smaller than some sure, but with easy access, can stay right there overnight, hit the casino, eat, etc after the show. One stop shopping!:thumb:
I'm definitely banking on another show in the area, cause I'm simply NOT going to Boston... my wife and I, (and more than a few friends too) already decided that at a house party last weekend..... it was a heavy topic of discussion, as most all are fans.
We'll see what happens. Hope we get a chance to see them at Mohegan.

I agree, Sickman, the venue is smaller and there really aren't any bad seats. It's just, for me, a longer drive to get there, and not a good place for tail-gating. But, we gotta do what we gotta do.
For some reason I don't think they'll add a 2nd show (hope I'm wrong) since there's shows in surrounding areas (NY, Boston).
I had VIP for sammy at mohegan, it is smaller than the HCC, by close to 7000 seats for concert seating - Hmm, 7000 times 100, that's a shit load of money I wouldn't want to miss out on - and as far as Mohegan having a short set list, I recall Sam blurting something about having a curfew to meet (imposed by the Casino) as well as a request for no profanity (that didn't work). If Roth is in rare form, profanity will be the dialect of choice. I'm bringing my 6 year old son, I don't care if Roth can't sing a note or say anything other than F&*k, because in another 22 years Ed will be dead, so for me, now is the time. I want to see them in the HCC - no strings attached - no governor, so to speak. They haven't missed a date here since before 1984. So with that, why the hell did they not immediately get a date in CT? Maybe we do suck....now:confused:

Well they more or less announced that Van Halen will be at Mohegan Sun arena on Friday October 5th. on WCCC. They did the 6 Questions with Koplik (Live Nation Promoter) and the dj aked ok would it be safe to say it will be on the first week of October probably a friday night @ Mohegan Sun. The promoters answer was that he should play power ball because he was on a roll. They couldn't officially announce it due to Van Halen Management. You can hear it at WCCC.com click on podcasts.

I was actually online when Boston tix went on sale on Sat. and I tried to see what kind of tix I'd get and it was a bitch just to get through. It was 10:13 and I only got through once and they were shitty seats.
With Mohegan being a smaller venue and with ILAA and the fact that the casino gives a lot of tix to high-rollers, I'm having my worries about getting good seats for this show.

Why does the old civic center get bypassed these days? It seems lately that the casino has a stronghold on getting bands in there. You would think VH would want as many seats as possible. I perfer the old civic center, downtown, etc. I still can't understand why they played the sub base in 93'. I'll do my best to get seats for Mohegan though!

Simple answer is the Casino is in the business of making money and will pay the bands whatever it takes to get them there. Especially this VH tour that is selling out all over. People are willing to plop down $300-$700 a ticket just imagine what they may spend at the casino.

It's all about $$$. Bands don't care about having enough seats for their fans. It's the same reason why Aerosmith is always going to Mohegan now.

I think for the bands it's also about the accommodations. Every thing they could want is right there on site. No need to even leave the building to get to your room after the show. It's become the only place in CT that most bands will play after being there once.

my buddy just emailed and said he heard that the CT date is Oct. 5th...friday...said he heard it on the radio...anyone else hear this...nothing on the VH website (what a surprise)
With all the talk of high roller tickets getting held, and small venues, why do we (the fans) here in Ct. seem to have to act so quickly to get seats? We get boned at every turn. I mean, I feel like I may possibly miss out if I don't toatally jump the gun and start clicking my brains out trying to get tickets for my home show. I'm already nervous that it could sell out in 10 minutes, and have NO chance of getting a seat. :barf: It really makes me angry that it's not like it's used to be. Even at The Meadows, at least you knew you were getting a lawn seat no matter when you started looking for tickets. For Balance, that place was a zoo. I understand the convienence of the idea, but we have a hell of a lot more than 10,000 VH fans in Ct., and to say we only get one show is tight. How many people were waiting in the rain in Groton? I was up front for Dreams, getting squished, doused with beer, teetering to the left and the right from the crowd, and hit Eddie in the guitar with a banner. Sam grabbed it and held it up. Best VH concert of all time......they played Unchained. Anyhow I'll do my best to be there. Incedently, if anyone here was at the Sammy show last year at Mohegan, I was the one who Sammy sang with during BOBW on the stage march:headbang: So the Sun will always be special no matter what I guess.

Tickets go on sale @ 10:00 am Friday for the Mohegan Sun show. For what it is worth about 2 months ago when they were talking with the promoter on the radio about it he said there would be 5000 tickets to put on sale and the rest are held by the band and the casino. That's about 2000-2500 seats being held back for ILAA, high rollers, and anyone else the casino wants to comp.
That just sucks, for the poor VH fans (including me). So 5000 or so seats for us non-VIP types. A-holes! Nothing posted anywhere yet about the confirmation. Nothing on Mohegans website. I can see them announcing it Thursday night. Anyway - thanks for the heads up. I'll be double clicking my ass off come Friday at 945am! :thumb:

I knew it was going to be a lot, it's just that I've seen tix at their highest prices at some venues being $125, so I was figuring about $150 at Mohegan, not $195.
And, yes, I know that there are no horribly awful seats at Mohegan, but this is Van Halen and it was an automatic decision to get the highest-priced seats, it's just that now, I'm thinking about changing my mind. :irked:
And one other thing; Aerosmith tix have been ridiculously priced lately. They only play for about 75 minutes.
Maybe that's a blessing in disguise for me! lol I may actually get a seat!

I'm not thrilled that Eddie has turned into an eccentric old man, and treats band members like there empty loon bottles, But I'm excited that I get to take out the wife, Leave the two kids at home and have a good time seeing David Fucking Lee Roth at the helm of my all time favorite band. I have been waiting 22 yrs for this, I suffered the Sammy Hagar cabo wabo era and the Gary Speed Bump Cherone era to see Dave Back where he belongs. It doesn't matter to me who's playing bass guitar, It could be one of Daves midget body guards for all i care. Will I miss Mike? Sure he's the nicest guy in the whole bunch, He's a great human being, He's probably one of the biggest parts of the VH sound, But like I said, I'm getting to relive my youth for one night...it's a wonderful thing!

Yeah, that's a fair statement. I'm not really sure why I just spent $94 (Boston show), other than to finally say, after 15 Van Halen shows, that I've seen them with David Lee Roth.
If I had to make a choice between Sammy's fall tour (are they ever going to release more dates?) and this VH tour, I'd probably go see Sammy's tour because it offers something different.
Many of the songs VH is going to perform on this tour, I saw them perform flawlessly in 1998. After witnessing Eddie's awful playing in 2004, I doubt I will get a flawless performance of anything on this tour.
Alas, I'm going merely out of curiosity. I very much anticipate that I'll be treating the show more as a critic than a fan.

Well I guess for the people who never saw them with Roth it will be something new. I saw them with Roth in 1984 but was a lot younger and have lost a lot of that memory. I also love the live shows so that's why I am going.

I wouldn't say "many" were performed in '98. It's more like "a few."
But you're right, they were most likely performed better then than they will be this tour.
The show is now listed on Mohegans website, giddy up!:headbang:

the way i look at it, its just an RNR show. and how many chances will i get to see DLR/EVH on the same stage?? sure we can bitch and drama here all we want about Mike not being on it, but in the end ill grab a beer, and go to both VH and Sammy/MA. im not missing this!
just like ill see Guns n roses if they come by again. even though its just axl rose. how many chances do you get?? just forget the bs and have a good time

That's one of the best posts I've ever read on this messageboard. Well done and I have to agree. I'll certainly miss Mike too as he was and still is a great guy and a very integral part of VH ---one that especially us older guys will never forget in a million years...I mean really how could we... but at the end of the day, there is no way I'm going to miss what may in fact be the last chance to ever see my favorite band, in whatever morph of the original. I'm really looking forward to seeing Dave on stage again with the brothers for the first time in over two decades. That alone is worth the admission to me.
And being at Mohegan, will be even better!:thumb:

There's no way I'm missing the show either etc, etc.
But do you really prefer seeing a show at Mohegan over the Meadows? I don't. Sure Mohegan doesn't really have a horrible seat and the venue is more intimate, but the casino does lack the tailgating and the outdoor air.
Also, the Meadows is closer to me. :p
Sorry, just some senseless rambling...

Anyone know why ILAA is not listing this show on their site? Tix go on sale tomorrow on TM - don't ILAA tix normally sell before the TM tix?
Only guessing, but maybe the smallish arena can't handle the vip stage set up? Or maybe ILAA got boned like we did and didn't get an alotment of tickets for the promo? Or maybe they will go on sale after everything else is gone?....Just guessing though....

I am looking for 2 tickets (side-by-side or in consecutive rows) for the Van Halen show at the Mohegan Sun on October 5. Specifically, I am looking for 2 tickets in the following sections ONLY:
Floor Section 1 or 3
Lower Level Sections 14 (unobstructed) 15, 26 (unobstructed) or 25.
Depending on the exact ticket location, I am willing to pay between $550 and $700 total for the 2 tickets.
If you have tickets that meet this criteria (and ONLY this criteria), please e-mail me at chazari99@hotmail.com.

I got in at 10:00 after refreshing my browser for 2 minutes straight. It took me 5-6 tries. I finally got 2 in section 112 and took them. I didn't want to take any chances. I kept trying for the MasterCard tickets and after 15 minutes it gave me 2 in secion 18 for $190.00 each! I passed as they weren't that much better than my cestion 112 seats for more than twice the cost. I probably should have grabbed them to sell as these were the only 2 times today that I got in. My advice is to keep trying even tomorrow and later days as tickets for these concerts open up. The problem both lies with Ticketmaster and the Mohegan Sun as they "hold" back tickets. I have seen it many times at this arena. Good luck to everyone, I am going to keep trying for better seats and see what happens.

Yeah over the weekend I was going through all of my old VH cd's which is where I keep the ticket stub for that particular tour and thought it was amazing how the ticket prices have risen. Where have all the good times gone.

You beat me to it. It's outside Tuscany Restaurant. You can't miss it, by sight or by ear. It's loud.
I just came on board today for this show.
Personally, I'm a fan of the bar inside Wombi Rock, in the Casino of the Sky. But, I've only been to Mohegan twice. I dined at Tuscany and would not recommend it.

My wife and I agree that most of the restaurants aren't that great. And I have several friends that feel the same way. It's kind of strange. You would think those places would be much better.
The Longhouse (I think that's what it's called) wasn't bad. I remember the food was good, but I didn't think it was as good as the prices may have indicated. Too expensive.

Well at least nobody is complaining about the alcohol. Well accept that it too is overpriced but it is any where you go.
Is there a time frame as to when this "Meet and Drink" is to take place? Show is at 8, so does that mean VH is at 8? , if they come on any later, will they have to reduce the show to get the 11pm Mohegan imposed curfew? Anyhow, I will be rocking Roth VH in the basement Friday October 5th, along with some friends (we have a "unofficial" VH tribute band), and that show in itself might be crazier than the "official" show that night.;) So I figure we will be rip roaring to arrive (at Mohegan) at around 6pm. However this is all subject to change, and cannot be confirmed nor denied at this time.....:p

America in the Wolfden again on the 7th.....gonna be a busy place....tables and slots will be packed, as will the restaurants and bars, but we're going to try anyway...Good luck!

Well, I will be at Mohegan that day. I don't have tickets yet. I'm also waiting on (hoping for) a connection of my in-law's to come through for me. He said to wait until the show gets closer before reminding him. It didn't hurt that I was the first one to ask him about tix. So I am trying to be a good boy so I can get rewarded. :D
This guy that I'm waiting on was at my wedding and he must remember how the best man included a couple of VH references in his speech. Also the DJ at my wedding (who is a friend of mine) said a few words about me and Van Halen before introducing my wife and me. He made fun of me for wanting "Love Walks In" as our introductory song. But he very easily swayed me to change it to "Panama!" :headbang:
Anyway, the guy must remember how important this is to me.
But once I know if I get these tix, I'll be jumpin around right there with ya!!
If not, I may have to check out the box office the day of the show and see what they got...if they have anything.

Oh believe me I am excited. In 1984 it was the first time I saw VH at the age of 11. My stepfather brought me and a friend of mine. Now I am bringing my 10 year old son and my stepfather to this show. It is going to be one hell of an experience.
"Alright boys!", now were getting somewhere. We are the 5th show of the tour, and they should have it down by then with no complications. I'm continuing my yelling and jumping, (still about 3 times a day). Been watching everything I can on you-tube that is prior to 1985. Some really good (funny) Roth interviews from 81/82. Got VH always running on the media player here at work, in the car, at home, (my 3 year old sings Unchained, tongue out & air guitar..what a sight that is!)and me & "the guys" jammed last night, and here was our set list:
In order:
Unchained
Drop dead legs
CGTSNM
Hear bout it later
Doctor
Simple rhyme
Growth
Bottoms up!
Teacher
Everybody wants some
Atomic punk
And the encore was a rip roaring :yell: Panama!

Morning all, is there any concern here that those 25 songs or so on the set list won't all fit in the show at Mohegan Sun? I really hope they do, I don't want a watered down version of what everybody else gets, especially for the dough I shelled out.

Do you think the 25 song set list was a list of songs they'll rotate in and out of each show? Even so, I wouldn't be surprised if the show is a little short. I'm a little concerned about the later start time (8 PM) and fitting in an opening act. I would guess that they have to be off the stage at 11 pm, no? We won't really know until we compare this show to the previous four shows. Nothing we can do about it anyway, if you have aleady spent the $ for the tickets.

Ok, at least I'm not the only one thinking about it. As far as I can see, there were no ILAA seating for this show, so we're getting boned on that. I assume (yeah, I know) that the extended stage ramp will not be there, and with the later start time you mentioned, an opening act would have to last only 15 minutes to get the stage ready for VH at let's say, 830 in order to blister through a 2.5 hour set; and still finish by 11pm. Which if you take the 25 proposed tunes x an average of 4 minutes, toss in Ed's solo, you get just about 2 hours. So I Would believe that the entire list is getting blasted at us, with minimal anecdotes. With that, I'll bet that the set list will not differ from what has been shown on the rehearsals. We just may not get all the songs listed at our show. Besides, Ed couldn't possibly remember more than 25 tunes in one night ;)

09.17.07, 11:42 AM
And when did Van Halen ever play a 2.5 hour set? I think the max I've seen was 2 hours 10 minutes on the OU812 tour.

BINGO! No pun intended.
Prepare to be disappointed, that way you won't be disappointed. Better yet, don't look at the reviews of the prior shows, that way you won't know that you've been screwed until you get home.
However, these bands could make an effort to get on stage earlier. I don't think 8:45 is that unreasonable.

The Heaven and Hell show was 4 hours long. Of coarse there were 3 bands plus 20 minutes in between to change up the stage. So yeah we will be screwed out of a few songs there. It's funny the DJ on our local rock station asked the Live Nation promoter if bands have a curfew at Mohegan Sun and he denied it but it is true. I have yet to see a show go past 11 pm there. The longest show I have seen was the YES 25th anniv. tour. They played for about 2-1/2 hours but they also started early.

Mohegan will lose alot of concert goers if this behaviour continues. If I were them I would rather fill my seats with happy concert goers every night, simply because they will of course gain a larger percentage of them that will hang around and gamble afterwards. If everyone figures out they are cutting show times, many will simply bail and see the shows elsewhere, because they are getting extra songs for their money. From a business standpoint it is really a no-brainer IMHO. E=MC2

Right. I've only once, in 1988, seen them go over 2 hours. The key is hitting the stage at 9.
Sasquatch and I spoke of the time crunch in post #178. There would be just enough time to pound out 25 songs and Ed's solo in 2 hours, based on a 4 minute average per song, and 20 minutes for Ed's solo. If they cut out all Dave's banter, and Al's solo, we might get all the songs, like everybody else. I could do without all the solo's and would prefer to see the "Song" list played in full. They need to be on stage raping us at 9 sharp to get "the list" done in full. I don't share the others' optimism. But hell, we'll all know NEXT FRIDAY now won't we!:headbang:

Well I for one am glad that it is a week way. It will give the sound guy a chance to work out some kinks and the band as well. I'm not counting on there being good sound at Mohegan at least not where I am sitting. Uppers on Wolfies side. If you are more towards the center of the arena or the floor the sound will be much better. I know from experience. I once saw Godsmack there and had seats directly behind the soundboard. The sound was good but there was scaffolding set up in front of us for a projector so the ushers moved us to the bass players side of the stage and that was all you heard all night was a muffled sound.

You might want to consider the horse book bar for a place to hang out. From my experience that's the place where you get lots of free drinks without really having to gamble much. Maybe put a $5 bet on a horse or sit at the bar and put a few bucks in the video poker machine and the bartenders generally keep hooking you up. Of course, the better you tip them...

Got myself a brand new Mohegan Tribal Headdress right here, I say. ;) hehehe Oh yeah, getin' giddy now brothers!!:D I get chills when I watch the boot of ATCWR. You can barely hear Dave sing the chorus the crowd is so loud out ahead of him. OMFG, I just can't believe we get to see Roth front Van Halen, it's surreal. I hope I survive Friday night...............:barf:

Somebody get me a diaper! One day away. Feel like I'm seeing VH for the first time. The 2004 tour doesn't count.

We Got Next!
I keep telling my wife that this is so sureal. All the years that I've been saying, "I would love to have seen Dave and Ed on stage" is finally coming true. I certainly will savor the moment because this may be the last tour for these guys. Hopefully not, though.
35 hours to go!!!

Hi everyone, I'm new to this board. This also is totally surreal for me, since I was not yet around when DLR was last in VH. Anyone I've been around the past month is sick of me talking about this show, but I am so excited and am sure tomorrow will be one of the great days of my life!!!!

Welcome a "board". Don't worry, you'll lose your voice here before somebody gets sick of you talking about a Van Halen concert.

Well here it is day of the show, in about 13 hours Van Halen will take the stage with David Lee Roth at the helm in CT for the first time since March 29th 1984. Live in front of your naked steaming ears. I can't wait. I hope the crowd goes nuts tonight and makes it sound like 15000 screaming fans. We've all waited a long time for this and it is finally here. Enjoy the show everybody. I won't be hookin' up at any bars on account of having my 10 year old son with me but I'll be sportin' my 1984 tour shirt and I think my son will be wearing the same shirt. He may also wear one of my old Monsters of Rock shirts. If you can figure out who I am stop and say Hi.
