Just got this e-mail for premium seats. Expensive!

In what is no doubt one of the most anticipated moments in rock and roll, American hard-rock band and top selling artist, Van Halen, officially announces their 2007 North American tour. They will make a stop in Boston on October 30 at 7:30 p.m.

The tour will mark the first time since 1984 that original Van Halen front man David Lee Roth will perform with Eddie and Alex Van Halen along with new bassist Wolfgang Van Halen for 40 shows. Van Halen fans can look forward to legendary high intensity performances, featuring a set list of the most iconic hits ever produced by America's premiere rock band.

Eddie Van Halen states, "I am very excited to get back to the core of what made Van Halen."

Having enjoyed immediate popularity and influence in 1978 with the release of their self-titled debut album, Van Halen has sold more than 80 million albums worldwide. The band is #19 on the list of top selling artists of all time and is one of only five rock groups that have had two albums sell more than 10 million copies in the U.S.

Tickets are $202.50 each and are in the Club. There is a $6.00 service charge per ticket. Your ticket ordering deadline is Friday, August 24th at 5:00pm. Parking is also available at $28.75 per parking pass.

Sincerely,
The Premium Club Box Office

No I won't be. Its either 11-27 in Sacramento, 11-29 in San Jose or 12-22 in Oakland. But likely just one since its so close to the holidays unless someone is very good to me this year.:D

I'm there.

One problem. Tickets go on sale Saturday (8/25) at 10 am. I will be at Gillette Stadium on the Pat's practice fields coaching my Pop Warner football team against Brookline, starts at 10am.

FUCK!!!!!!!

This one I may be going to solo so I'd be happy to hook up before at a bar or whatever. Ben - you going with anyone or cruising there by yourself? Anyone know any pre-sale shit? What's the premium club that you refer to Zack?

NEED SOME FUCKING INSIDE INFO! :yell:

And I'm not going to go shuffling through threads, but it looks like they're adding dates based on sales. Pretty sure there weren't two dates in a couple of those cities that now have two dates.

Also may cruise down to NJ and catch them there, my bro still lives there. Did that in '04 as well.

anyone know pricing for the ILAA packages for the boston show? jsut tried to hit that site but it was down for me.

jrk5150
08.21.07, 12:44 PM
I ain't doing the ILAA shit this time. 4 star wasn't worth it, and I'm sure the 5 star will be crazy expensive. Didn't look like any guarantee of a sound check. Besides, part of the magic of '04's soundcheck was them dipping into the past and playing some classics. That's what this tour is, so not as much attraction for me there.

Well, I'm outta ideas for tickets. Ben - if you're going to be online trying for tickets right at 10, let me know, maybe you can hook me up. Otherwise, I guess I'll try for a single ticket when I get home and cross my fingers that I can get a good one.

Got a buddy who's company has a package at the Garden, trying to get him to hook me up, but that's pretty unlikely.

Looks like the 5 stars are going for $795, and the 4 stars are $425.

Can anyone direct me to a seating chart which list exactly what sections will be priced at what cost. Ticketmaster jus has a range of $47-$147. Im guessing all of the floor and lodge will be $147.

I'd go with you, if I lived closer- money is meant to be spent!:headbang:

Question, if you bought both of them, would you be able to give 1 to someone else since they require photo ID? or only the person buying it can use it?

I hear that. I had to do some serious talking to my wallet for this one. But hell, it's VH with DLR. If the tour makes it to Boston without getting cancelled, it'll be worth it

Not sure about your question though. This whole ILAA thing is pretty confusing

Damn, I got on before 3, and up until about 10 minutes after 3, and I couldn't get anything...I guess I'm glad, becuase I didn't want to pay 800 bucks. I'm guessing though on saturday, I won't be able to get through and i'll end up paying about 500 bucks a tix through some asshole scalper for shitty seats anyways.

Holy shit those went fast!!

I was in right at the bell and had 2 tickets in the far end of the balcony but turned them down. I then went back in and got balcony seats again but they're not bad at all. They're right along the side towards the front in the 6th row. I took 'em for $77 each.

I went back in a minute later after the order was complete just to see what else was available and there were none left! I tried several times and kept getting "Sorry, no tickets available at this time." That REALLY surprised me.

It looks like all of New England is trying to cram into one show.

M.C.
08.25.07, 06:05 AM
I got in right at 10 - my connection isn't that fast, and ended up with Section E Row 3. And of course, like an idiot, I had that moment where I was like "'Damn, that was easy....I bet I could do better!"

Thankfully, my friend in Philly who I was on the phone with at the time who couldn't get in at all hit me with common sense and I got them. Woooo!

Passed up on section 12 because it was the wrong side of the stage...

5 minutes later, more tickets 30 feet further back in 139. :brickwall

Didn't want to roll the dice any further.

A couple of times it said "sorry, no more tickets matching your request", but I just kept trying.

Maybe they'll do a second show and I'll do better.

gotta have a 2nd show now. I was in right at 10:00...only wanted two together and went for 147.00...nothing was avail. Went back with best avail and was shut out. I was on the phone with a buddy and my sister (who is going and a huge VH fan at 21..because of me), they were both getting the same shit. I finally scored 2 in the Bal section 316 (go figure) my buddy got 2 in 328. There is a 330 (up on Ed's side). Can't believe that moved that fast. Then you have to deal with that timed shit with filling out the order form. I'm in though...

Someone needs to remind the VH camp that we kinda sorta like Van Halen in these parts, regardless of the lineup. In 1986 we sold out 4 shows at the Worcester Centrum in the same week.....if I remember correctly they played on Mon, Tues, Thurs, and Fri. I remember I went to the middle two shows.

Yeah, I think another show in Boston is a necessity.

That's hardly anything new - it happens with EVERY big show. The venue holds a certain amount of seats in case of production issues, leaving an extension of space. Then, when the schematics of everything is official, anywhere from a few dozen to a few hundred are made available shortly before the show.

It's been that way for as long as I can remember.

scorpio

Hope you all have a great time at the show. I know I will.

jrk5150
08.27.07, 10:26 AM
Well, maybe they can get back here in November - there's an 11 day period (11/3 to 11/13) where they only have the 3 NYC area shows and nothing else, and then another 6 days between NYC and heading home to LA. Maybe they add another NY/NJ show or something, but that also gives plenty of time to run up to New England for an additional show or even two somewhere like Boston, Worcester, Hartford, Manchester, and/or Providence - you have to believe there's an open date in ONE of those venues in that time frame...

So, here's to hoping...

I was online at 10 am Sat. morning. My downfall was that I wanted five (5) tickets at the $77 price point, so we're in section 301, row 14. I don't think there are many more rows past 14 in the 300s, so I think I'm close to the top. We're at center ice, with the stage to our right.

If you've never been, then do the tourist stuff in Boston. Walk the freedom trail, eat dinner in the North End if you like Italian food, then walk back to Fanuel Hall for a few drinks. Eat lunch Wed in Fanuel Hall. Go to the top of the Prudential Building, they have an observation floor. Hell - eat there - it's expensive, but the view is incredible. Take a duck boat tour. Frankly, no reason to leave the city on that short of a trip.

Scored my Worcester tix, so I'm not as desperate, can be picky for this show. If anyone's got any extras, I'm looking for 1 or 2, but am going to be a prissy bitch and hold out for sections BB, A, B, C, or lower half of 13, 14, 21, 22. Maybe 1 or 12 too, we'll see.

Figure I'll wait until last minute otherwise, see if they do a ticket dump or I can get someone desperate to unload.

so, what happened to the rumor of them adding a 2nd boston date?

2nd date is in Worcester. It is not yet sold out. They probably figure the market is saturated here.

I would not plan on a second Boston date, unless it is several months after this upcoming show!

yes noraa the colors are starting to turn, so it should be beautiful here by the end of the month. Are you planning to stay for a bit? It would be nice to drive up to New Hampshire even if not for an overnight stay.

Does anyone have any plans from this board to grab anything to eat/drink (aka :spit: ) before heading into the show?

I have been doing good at avoiding reading much about the show as I would like the element of surprise (set list etc) But I have talked a bit to someone who went to the Philly show and they were simply blown away and state this is the best VH yet.....I am getting such butterflies as is why I prob am miscalculating the days wait! Question, from past reviews , is the band using side video screens, and if not, will we see the back one

Keeping a reunion tour from becoming a broken record

By Sarah Rodman, Globe Staff | October 29, 2007

So Van Halen, you've decided to get the old band back together. Good for you. Maybe you're seeking some of that old glory, need a little cash to fill the retirement coffers, or just want to play one more time.
Whatever the motivation, this year has seen a rash of reunions big and not so big, and the results have been - receding and graying hairlines notwithstanding - surprisingly pretty. The Police, the Stooges, Genesis, Crowded House, Squeeze, and the Smashing Pumpkins have hit the Hub and offered up pop, punk, and prog pleasures.

With the arrival of the late-'70s, early-'80s lineup of party rockers Van Halen - vocalist David Lee Roth, guitar god Eddie Van Halen, his drummer brother, Alex, and Eddie's son, Wolfgang, replacing bassist Michael Anthony - at the TD Banknorth Garden tomorrow night and the DCU Center next Tuesday, we have high hopes that the streak will continue.

In anticipation, we thought we'd take a look back at 2007's other ghosts of rock 'n' roll past and dispense a little friendly advice about how to ensure fans walk away happy instead of shaking their heads and cryin' like Jamie.

Pay your sound engineer well and don't forget to warm up.

We want to hear every note of the scintillating "Eruption," the cheesy keyboard whomp of "I'll Wait," and every one of "Diamond" Dave's innuendos in "Hot for Teacher." Make sure we can. Generally speaking, reunited bands have the cash to make the mix work for them even in arenas. The Police scored at Fenway. Genesis had some trouble spots early on at the Garden but managed to work out the kinks, and Crowded House and Squeeze both managed to make their harmonies heard at the Bank of America Pavilion.

And now that we've established that we'll be able to hear every note, try to hit them. Just the effort counts. Sting went up for almost all the high bits of "Roxanne" and "Synchronicity II," which made it easier to overlook when he missed a few targets.

If you have fun, we will, too.

In other words, play like it might actually be the last time, not just the last time until you feel like playing again.

The Police sounded great, but sometimes they looked like they were having about as much fun as your average RMV employee. Ditto Genesis. The Stooges, on the other hand, brought their own party; the guys in Crowded House couldn't contain their joy; and, bless his dark heart, even Billy Corgan seemed thrilled to be digging into the Smashing Pumpkins songbook again. Dave, Eddie, if you have to fake it, we won't mind.

Have a sense of humor about how you might look, or conversely, look good.

To lift an era-appropriate phrase from Vidal Sassoon, if you don't look good, we don't look good. Or at the very least we start to obsess that we've aged as badly as you have. Put us to shame, like Sting with his still-bulging biceps or Squeeze frontman Glenn Tilbrook's impressive mane. Or make self-deprecation your friend like Phil Collins, who quipped not only about hair loss, but poor eyesight and drug-addled brain glitches! We are mightily encouraged by the pictures we've seen on the Web of Eddie's wiry, post-rehab physique.

If you're getting the band back together, then, you know, actually get the band back together.

The Police were the only group that managed to get the original lineup on the road. (Clearly, it helps to be a trio.) Special dispensation is given to those who have members who have passed away, such as Zep, Crowded House, the Stooges, and the Sex Pistols. But as strong as Squeeze and the Smashing Pumpkins were, with the creative nuclei on hand to crank out the catalog, a tiny piece went missing without the other familiar faces.

Of course, Van Halen is already operating at a deficit on this score. Although he shares actual genetic connection to the band name, no matter how good Eddie's son Wolfie is on bass - and he won't have to be better than competent, really - Anthony's manic energy and high harmonies are part of the Van Halen DNA.

Involve the fans.

Iggy and the Asheton brothers didn't only play the oldies like they were still loose-limbed garage rockers, they invited half of the audience onstage to help. Bum notes and sloppy licks are a lot harder to hear when crazed people are pogo-dancing around the lead singer.

Don't bore us: Get to the chorus.

You have a new record, Crowded House? You want to play a handful of its best songs? Cool. You want to play almost all of it, Smashing Pumpkins? Not cool. Van Halen, we know you know this, but just in case you thought this might be a good time to premiere that new song of universal love and understanding you guys have cooked up in the wake of putting your rancor behind you, it's not.

You should DEFINETLY show up at 9 then. I mean, why listen to people who have been to 3 shows already? The risk that you might be sitting around for 20 minutes is simply TOO GREAT. I'd suggest you show up at 9. If you miss 5 songs, hey that's a small price to pay.

Hint - what time does it say on your ticket? VH will hit the stage exactly 1 hour after that time.

Another hint - you can buy drinks at the venue.

The Mohegan Sun show was ticketed for 8 pm, thus the 9 pm start time for VH. Perhaps this is why the confusion stems from.

I sense the Boston show could be the defining show of this tour. It may determine whether their last concert in K.C. was a fluke or not (tempers flared- due to Ed and Dave's egos; Dave being high maintenance; Ed drinking again?). Will they rise to the occasion and right the ship or will it spiral out of control and all be downhill from here? Let's hope they can keep it together. This is a good show to gauge all of that.

With all the World Series excitement going on in Boston today, you'd almost think VH should have poked their head out of the shell a bit and MAYBE have played one or two songs out in public... With three days time to make arrangements, this could have been easily accomplished by a major headlining band IF they had wanted to do such... But this is clearly not the case here...

Don't forget the red sock he had hanging off his bass.

Would you believe I never made the connection? I was just thinking it was some skank's stocking....never once connected it to "Red Sox."

Holy shit, I must be getting senile. :wtf:

OK that was the best show EVER. Everything was right on. Two hours 5 minutes of classic VH rockin down the house. My throat is sore. We were up in 306, but the straight on view was awesome. I loved the close ups of Eddies fine fingering. Dave was a good mixture of a humbled but old time Dave. Alex, well what can we say, that guy is a maniac on the drums. That drum set rocked. This was worth the 22 year wait. Wish I could see them again soon. Now, that started the VH juice reving up.... must get tapes out for ride to work tomorrow. Boston signing off......well worth every single penny. THANK YOU VAN HALEN!!!!!!!!

From reading the reviews, it looks like the KC show was just an off-nite. Glad that VH gave Boston another thrill this week.

after ATBL they left for a minute w the 1984 intro coming back and closing w Jump.

What a show!!!!!!!!!

waited over 20 years and not disappointed. This has set the bar. Could list the tunes, but that has been done. Same as others, but to see them live and nail it on every one...what can you say.

I think the look on Dave's face said it all. He sang his ass off and the VH boys just absolutely wailed.

Nothing special. They ditched "1984" and "Jump" and Ed came out with an old Kramer double-neck and they played "Secrets". Then he put on the original Shark guitar from the WACF cover and Mike Anthony came out and they did "D.O.A" and "Bottoms Up". They finished with "Rock and Roll" by Zep and I think it was...yeah...It was Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck that joined them onstage for one of those corny "all-star jams" that lasted over an hour. I was bored at this point and bummed they didn't do "Jump", so I left before they did their final bows. I'll never go to a Van Halen concert again. Fuckers.

Eddie, Dave team up for VH reunion in harmony
By Jed Gottlieb  |   Wednesday, October 31, 2007  |  http://www.bostonherald.com  |  Music News
It wasn’t what many expected from the David Lee Roth/Van Halen reunion tour, but last night’s sold-out TD Banknorth Garden got to see Diamond Dave and Eddie Van Halen rocking with the bliss of joyous honeymooners.
The band’s nasty 1985 split was a distant memory as Roth, Eddie, Alex and young Wolfgang Van Halen, who has replaced founding bassist Michael Anthony on bass guitar, smiled ear-to-ear, high fived and hugged through a set of standards from the first six Halen records.
During the two-hour set, the formerly acrimonious frontman extraordinaire and guitar god couldn’t stop joking around and trading sincere grins. Whatever problems they once had, or still have, Dave and Eddie are keeping them off the stage.
While the band played a lot of classic rock radio staples, including “You Really Got Me,” “Running With the Devil” and a searing “Panama,” the quartet isn’t purely a nostalgia act.
Except for Eddie’s 16-year-old son, Wolfgang, the baby boomers were in tip-top shape - a chest-baring Roth could have passed for a Navy SEAL, and Eddie bounced around like a Godzilla energizer bunny. While Roth’s voice has lost some range, his ability to frame Eddie’s guitar is intact.
On the histrionic “Atomic Punks,” “Everybody Wants Some!!” and “Mean Streets,” Eddie confirmed he’s the pinnacle post-Jimi-Hendrix hard-rock guitarist. Apologies to Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck and Steve Vai, but it’s been Eddie who’s reimagined and reinvented the six string since Jimi.
And it wasn’t just last night’s lighting-quick hammer-ons and tremolo dive bombs that shook the 15,000 fans. He pulled out Clapton-like blues licks and feedback echo effects that would have made Tom Morello wet himself.
Wolfgang played his role well. His bass thumped and his harmony vocals worked, even on tough numbers such as “Dance the Night Away” and “Beautiful Girls.”
History tells us this lineup won’t last, so Halen junkies should know the treat they got last night. A few kung fu kicks from Dave, a not-half-bad Alex drum solo and Eddie on fire. It’s almost like Sammy never happened.
Ky-Mani Marley opened the show with some originals and a couple of father Bob’s standards. But he was basically ignored by the few who showed up for his short set.

Van Halen returns to the party
By Joan Anderman, Globe Staff  |  October 31, 2007
"We're baaaaack!" was the battle cry. "Hot for Teacher" was the song. David Lee Roth was the singer - a man no one expected to see high-fiving Eddie Van Halen on a concert stage in this lifetime.
But Van Halen, in near-original formation, has returned from the land of acrimonious break-ups and substitute frontmen for a reunion tour that will surely satisfy rock fans hungry for that vacuous '80s feeling.
Variety was never the hallmark of Van Halen's catalog, but they've produced a boatload of lighter-raising grooves and winningly mindless anthems. The band jammed a couple dozen of them into their two-hour set last night at the Garden, starting with the Kinks' "You Really Got Me" and closing with a confetti-splattered sing-along of "Jump."
In between the foursome fell into iconic, if somewhat modified, roles. Founding bassist Michael Anthony was given the boot to make room for Eddie's 16-year-old son Wolfgang, a fine player and harmony singer who filled his predecessor's position with quiet aplomb. Alex kept rhythms rolling and rumbling as reliably as ever. Roth was a sadder version of his old cartoonish self, grinning madly and strutting stupidly and mustering as much enthusiasm as he could in a new, narrower vocal range. His halfhearted leg kicks and awkward twirling of the mike only served as reminders of antics gone by.
The concert stood as a startling statement of who Van Halen really belongs to. Eddie was, and still is, the guitar god whose phenomenal technique and astonishing vocabulary transforms Van Halen into more than a pop-metal party band. While Roth pranced in a red top hat during "Runnin' With the Devil," revved like a motorcycle for "Everybody Wants Some," and changed into his third toreador jacket to sing "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love," Eddie played endlessly remarkable rock music. His lengthy guitar solo was one of the night's finest moments.
The other memorable moment arrived an hour and a half in, when Roth was left alone on the stage to reminisce about 1972, rolling joints and playing five sets a night for $150 and a girl named Arlene, who always asked him to play "Ice Cream Man," which he did, for us, on acoustic guitar. It was Roth's single display of real, unforced showmanship.
Ky-Mani Marley's earthy R&B and hip-hop has less than nothing in common with Van Halen. But there he was, dusting off his famous father's most famous songs ("No Woman, No Cry," "Roots, Rock, Reggae") for a pop-metal crowd. Somebody needs to get this talented fellow a slot on the right tour, and advise him to lose the covers if he wants to make his own name.

Of course, the funniest/saddest thing about it is, if that nearly impossible scenario actually *did* happen, you know for sure there would be at least ONE person who would seriously have a negative review of it.

"Man, I paid to see a Van Halen show, not some old-ass Eric Clapton."

Or:

"Man, I wish they'd have played "The Lemon Song" instead of "Rock and Roll"

Or, last but not least:

"I was watching Wolfie the whole time during that all-star jam and I really don't think he was playing."
