I must say that having your cd posponed just before the tour starts has to be bad planning. Im sure it will effect sales especially since now most of us know its country rock with 4 covers and a new version of Half way to Memphis. I guess it will be good for maybe 10 to 15 thousand copies. Does anyone have the figures for Sammy cds after he left Van Halen? From Marching to Mars to Not for Sale??

I don't think it's such a bad thing. Some bands do promo tours just before their album release and they sometimes tour in Europe (for a US band for instance) while the album is not even out there. It raises the interest and demand and in Sammy's case, if the current tour does well, it can help him find a new label.

I don't think Sammy even considers sales at this point. It's to stay active, staying creative and its something for the fans.....and an excuse to tour.

If you remember "Best Of Both Worlds" came out in the middle of the 04 tour also.

If those are his sales, then he hasnt done too bad for himself since leaving VH. Plus those are three years old, Im sure the sales are higher by now. Hes only about 150,000 away from going gold on red voodoo and marching to mars. If he can get on a major label for this album, Im sure he could find a way to finally reach gold statues. Good job sammy :thumb:

It's not that easy to hit Gold - especially without major video & radio play (or at least some kind of commercial or tie in to a movie or something) Really good catalog titles (which Sammy's old records are) sell in the 3-4,000 range (ie old VH stuff) so I'm going to say Sam's has sold considerably less in the last 3 years. He might have added an additional 150,000 units AT BEST on his BEST records. I'll try and see if I can get some soundscan numbers...

That would be fanastic if you could get those numbers, Id be exteremly curious, if you could too, find out about THE ESSENTIAL RED COLLECTION and BEST OF BOTH WORLDS. I dont have access to soundscan, so if you can share that it would be awesome.

I've always heard that artists make more money from touring than sales anyway. If people want to see you (whether you have new music or not), THAT's the career!

Voodoo outsold MTM? That's surprising.

Both are good releases, but man, MTM has some good, angry vocals on it.

I think Red Voodoo is the worst of the batch when it comes to song content. If you listen to all four cds sammy rleased after VH you have to conclude that the songs on Red Voodoo are the worst. MTM, NOT4SALE,1013,RED VOODOO. In that order, forget the live cd.

Voodoo had Mas Tequilla- a song many people here probably don't like but it was radio friendly and I would guess helped to push the numbers. Those two cd's are very close so I wouldn't really say one 'outsold' the other except in the most literal way possible. Those two combined did better that '3' which is a surprise.

As far as the new album I would agree Sam is really worried about how many he moves. I think he wants to keep writting new music so that his shows stay fresh. Also as he get closer to 60 he is probably wanting a little more diverse catalog so that 7 or 8 years from now he has some tunes that make sense for him to perform at 65 instead of having to play 2.5 hour show of non-stop rock. Difficult for most 50-somethings much less someone 10 or 15 years older. The new albums shows how smart he preparing for future shows.

Even if you're old, your lyrics don't need to suck. Age brings wisdom, supposedly...

The reason Sam is waiting to release the new CD, at least according to an interview he gave the "Lake Tahoe Action" dated 5-11 May 2006, an entertainment newspaper in Tahoe, was because the record company (unnamed in the article) he was going to use is about to go bankrupt.

His quote:

"Record companies are struggling right now", he said. "I spent a year making it, and I am not going to have myself have to go back and buy it back from a bank. That's what I did with my last 2 records."

And:

"I am shopping for the right label, and I am sure it will be out before August 5, but it won't be out for a while."

That is an opinion so it really doesn't mean anything to say lyrics suck- Sam isn't Neil Peart for the god's sake.

Please give us what solo DLR has great lyrics in your opinion so we can all learn how to enjoy music just like you.

I love Ten 13. Possibly my fave Sammy solo record.

I'll give you better than that, I'll give you songs with good SAMMY lyrics...

Remember the Heroes
Three Lock Box (cool weird lyrics)
Eagles Fly
pretty much all of Marching to Mars
Make it Last (Montrose)

Right now
Mine All Mine
Best of Both Worlds

I could go on.

I think there's two types of fans. Some who just accept everything, no matter what. The guy could record himself falling down the stairs and they would be happy.

Then there's another category of fans who hold the artists up to a certain standard, a standard that the artists themselves have established in the past. When said standard is not met (and not met by a great margin), these fans consider it their duty to voice their opinion on the matter.

I belong to the second category.
