Well I figured this might alleviate some of the mess that Main becomes with all the "pro-Mike, who cares about Mike discussions." We can put them all here.
BTW if you really don't want to get into the Mike debate, and want to complain about people supporting him still, and missing his presence, then I wouldn't suggest using this forum.
I think Mike's 30 years in Van Halen have earned him a forum on the site. He definitely deserves it.

I'm wondering if you'll give Wolfgang a forum if he is good? I know this is your board, Brett, so you are free to do whatever, of course. I just wonder what this place will be like if Wolfgang is really talented. Surely, people will bitch, but would he get respect from those pissed over the Mike thing?
Joe, who cares. Does Gary Cherone have a forum? Does Alex? The separate forums were for previous members of the band. Cherone doesn't warrant an entire forum, Mike does.
It's simple.
Enough with what Wolfie deserves. This has NOTHING to do with how good he is. I don't get your corrolation. It's funny I start a forum to take the shit out of the other forums, and you guys just bring it in here too.
Why?

Why?
Because they're not particularly digging the fact you're supporting Mike instead of VH 4.
I have ZERO issues with Dave (apart from slight hypocrisy on his part) and even Wolfie. I have a big problem with Eddie Van Halfass however. That's why I am not supporting VH 4. I will support it on the site as it is warranted.

Its funny when people give the "I respect your opinion, but..." bullshit and then say something like that, blatantly proving they DON'T respect the opinion whatsoever.

As webbie of virtually the biggest VH tribute site on the 'net, I expect they'd love for you to get more behind this project. They're missing the facts that you're still supporting the band by offering a ticket link for the tour as well as free and unlimited publicity despite your misgivings regarding Edward's recent decisions.
Sheesh, Brett, get with the program. Just tell everyone you'll go to a show so we can all get on with our lives. ;)

I've been in the middle the whole time. You guys should know that. I'm glad there are people sticking up for Mike. He deserves it. For me, there aren't just two sides. I'm more of a Roth-era fan...not by a lot...but enough to make sure I see this tour. I guess since I haven't been a fan all the years a lot of you have, I see things differently. I've never had a chance to see Dave and Eddie together, so this is as good as I'll get. If I was around since Roth's departure and awaited a reunion for so many years, I'm sure I'd be on your side. Such a long wait and you get the one missing entity and remove another who was just as vital to the Van Halen sound. Dudes, I get it. I always have. But try not to put me on a side here because I choose to see VH4. Wolfgang has big shoes to fill, and I'm rooting him on. I'd love to see him succeed, but we all know he'll never be Mike. Some people won't accept that, and it's totally cool. This "band" is such a wreck now. And Brett, I DO blame Eddie and feel a little ashamed that I still want to spend money on him. But I have faith that Dave and Wolfie will bring out the best in him...musically. Personality-wise...Well...I don't think he'll recover. He's fucked in the head, for sure.
I think we all need a break from that shit.
If I truly need a break, I'll just go to the Police or Rush threads and just jizz all over the place.
At least one of those bands have new material coming and both have their supposed shit together. 2007 is still gonna rock the balls from where I am sitting.:headbang:

I'm actually pretty damn jealous of you because I truly want to see things your way. I also have never seen Dave and Ed live together, and that's been a dream of mine for the longest time.
But I know if I go to the show, and even if it's the sonic equilvalent of a three-way with Angelina Jolie and Jessica Alba, I'll still have this sick feeling of having signed off on something I feel in my heart is just plain wrong. Mike deserves better for all the hard work and dedication to the band. He went along literally with everything that went down. He didn't say a word about his limited participation on "III" until many years later. He agreed to pay cuts in '07. He, more than anyone....ANYONE, believes in Van Halen and his actions consistently have proven that.
He was rewarded by being fired for a 100% bullshit excuse for a reason, and Ed fucking knows it.
See.....that's what would hit me as I drive home from the show, that I fucking condoned it. I don't condone it, and I never will. I've never met the man in my life and I would feel that I have simply betrayed him.
Joe, I truly want you to enjoy the show and again....I wish I could see it all through your eyes. Some of us have simply been robbed of those kind of lenses. I hope to read a review if you'll grace us with one, sir.:)

Thanks for the kind response, LowLifeFlatHeadScum. I will be fair in my review. In 2004, I was lucky to see two shows in the beginning of the tour (Buffalo and Toronto) and, although Eddie wasn't perfect either night, he was still good. The rest of the band rocked as well, and the lovefest between all of them was too good to last. I'm 100% sure it was genuine at the time. The reason the band goes through all these rollercoasters is because Eddie is an alcoholic. He's like two different people...maybe more now. All the contradictions in the last few years have made it crystal clear that the guy needs help...an intervention as Dave put it. I just feel bad that Dave is so desperate that he is willing to cut a few corners...and quarters (aka Mike) to play with Ed again. I'll defend him, though, because I think he's at a very vulnerable point in his life. He's not getting any younger and each year his kicks will get lower, as will his energy. Basically, he wants to still be the man when this happens. I believe he truly wants to give us a great show and is afraid he won't be able to live up to it if they keep waiting. Also, who knows with Ed's health? So many things to ponder...all of which could be solved by Eddie going to rehab and Mike coming back. Anyway, let's talk about Mike. I'm sure he's not hurting too bad. Probably taking a couple trips a month to Cabo and enjoying family life. I sure hope so.
I'm sure also that Mike is not hurting at all financially, and never will. I guess I'm just one fo those old-fashioned blokes that feels that all the money in the world doesn't take the knife out of your back for you.
Then again I could be wrong. I'll let you know when I am as rich as Mike just how I feel.
And I'm sorry that you felt that you had to type out my entire name. :D

Joe, we get it. You are very excited to give EVH's kid respect, but some of us look at a 15-year-old in a band with three 50-somethings as a joke. I don't care if he's the next Billy Sheehan or Jack Bruce. The kid is going on a tour with a legendary band to play legendary songs that came out before he was born, and he's not only never recorded anything but he's never played live as a professional in front of people. It's laughable. If another band were doing something like this, practically everyone here would be mocking it.
KU and VH forever!!

First off Brett, I would like to thank you about dedicating a forum to Michael Anthony, who is seems to be a class act from everyone's point of view, besides the two infamous brothers POV, which is somewhat tainted to say the least. The only wrong MA did was go play music with SH, the last time under the name, "The Other Half," which according to Ed is a band with a website, fanclub, and everything else that comes along with it. I firmly feel that Ed did not want the tour in '04 to happen, he just went along with it because Al wanted it. Now Al I think has got to go along with his little brother this time around. Ed wanted to tour with Dave probably from the last almost tour with Dave, and with either managment's decision or Sammy's to sell Cabo Wabo, Ed has basically hid behind that excuse and acted like a total nitwit because of it. And then add the hot sauce that Michael Anthony vends I guess this made Ed think it was one in the same. In the end, I think Ed wanted Dave back all along, and he wanted Wolfie along for the ride. I think Ed does not really give a shit about the tequila and hot sauce, those are copouts IMO. He wanted Dave and expected Mike to wait like him and Al was doing, but Mike was not going to have none of it. After seeing what happened the last two times they tried to reunite Mike decided that it might never happen so he went out with Sammy again, knowing probably full well that this could happen. And it did. I have been saying I want to go to a show, nothing has changed. I was lobbying for a Dave return since last summer here, but then I get one and this happens. I guess you gotta be careful of what you wish for....

Mike is good and we are blessed to have had him in our lives in VH. Life is never perfect, and VH resembles that statement ;-)! I don't know what to think anymore, but I do know that I enjoyed Mike's bass playing over the years in VH and the memories of those records and concerts can never be taken away. There is always the way we want things to be in our lives and the reality of the situation. In this case, Mike has been an awesome part of our lives and we appreciate that. It is just a hard pill to swallow right now; nevertheless, Mike is a stud!

EDIT: Shouldn't say 'all' since there are some who are gonna go see this.

Nope nope.....I was all of 14 innocent years old when The Dave toured with VH for the final time. The rule of the house was "No Concerts until you're 16".
Why 16? Fuck if I know. :brickwall

That makes three of us, though I believe I was 15 when the 1984 tour came throught my neck of the woods. An acquaintance of mine had an extra ticket (first 15 rows) but my parents wouldn't let me go. I can still hear my mother saying, "You can go next tour when you'll be 16." Yeah, way to go, Ma.

Thanks for all the years Mikey! And thanks for sharing that beer at the HOB in '98....class act always. Good luck to all your future endeavors. Here's to a bright future for Mr. Anthony....AND for VAN HALEN...gonna be a great tour in my opinion! If i could give a word of advice to ya Mikey....i wouldnt repeat that "Other Half" trainwreck again.....you're better than that. Sammy's far from the saint he's painted to be.....heck, you'd do better to get into a whole new band or something. As much as i cant wait to see VH this summer, i also cant wait to see Mikey jammin' again, too. Maybe hook up with some killer musicians....leave the "ritas" in Cabo.....you my friend were the ONLY good thing about that tour with Sammy's bunch....not to say Sammy cant sing...i think he can....but it was so painful to watch those VH tunes get butchered the way they did by that band. Surround yourself with a new unit...get out there and rip it up.

I give props to Mike Anthony. Certainly his contribution to the Mighty VH is worthy and should be celebrated!
On top of that, mike was ALWAYS the coolest and most down to earth member of a tremendous band filled with massive ego's.
Long Live Mike Anthony !!!
Mike, when you read this, thank-you for all the greatness YOU provided over the years in the music, on the stage and as a human being. This fan will always remember you fondly and with much appreciation. I'll also commend you on the committment you and your family have made to each other and consider you a role model in a world full of narcisists, however talented they may be. Even if you never play with VH again, you will eternally be on the music and be in the memories, and that cant be taken away. You have won the lottery in your life, and not for the success of your career alone, but by virtue of having said success, AND by keeping the most important thing intact--your family! Congratulations to you and the Anthony ladies!
Enjoy your years, you've earned it, and please check in every once in a while.
