I'm trying to figure out a name for a band I wanna put together. I know this isn't about VH directly, but a name I have is like a song off of VH1. The Little Dreamers. How's that? I'm not sure about it myself.

Call your band "Maya." Not just because it's my name, but if you look up "maya" in Webster's, one of the definitions is really cool and freaky. "The illusion-creating power that the phenomenal world is real," or something like that. Very "The Matrix"-ish.

I was once in a dinky little band, I mean, we were barely even a band, but we took a long time coming up with a name.

Somebody thought we should call ourselves "Hollow" but I rejected that because it was way too much like Courtney Love's band Hole.

We finally decided on "Paradise," which I thought was a sucky name. We called it that because it was a name our guitar player, who didn't speak English very well, could sort of understand.

Um, maybe you should just stick with "The Little Dreamers." In fact, "The Little Dreamers" is great! http://216.10.25.192/vhlforum/smilies/biggrin.gif

doesn't mean they don't love you with all they have! "1989" (http://www.vhvault.com/1989/)

the name 'Maya' for a guys band would make them sound like sissies..... you'd have to have the definition you mentioned plastered all over the album so people know why you named it that.

My first college roommate had a band in Pennsylvania while in high school and they called themselves "Free Beer" - said the locals would see that on a bar's calendar and get all pumped up to go do some drinkin' and then find out it was the band! I'm sure that name's not in use anymore.

I like blueeyedmurder's idea: 'Blue-Eyed Murder' Wonder where he got that idea http://216.10.25.192/vhlforum/smilies/wink.gif Too bad 'Unchained' is the name of a band. I also like 'Atomic Punks', but that's used already too. The Little Dreamers sounds like a ballet group or something. That's why I'm not too sure about it. Maybe 'Red-Balled Mammoth' http://216.10.25.192/vhlforum/smilies/wink.gif

You know years ago when BOV1 came out, a guy I knew said his wife actually thought the band was saying "Mean White Rabbit" instead of "Me Wise Magic." I always thought that was funny and would be a cool name for a band, if you can get past some people thinking it's a Jefferson Airplane reference.

I was only ever in one band, and it was just a last minute battle of the bands thing. Anyway, this was our name, feel free to use it (though you'll probably need really big t-shirtshttp://216.10.25.192/vhlforum/smilies/biggrin.gif).

To me, naming a band is like naming a child, it should come from one of the band members (parents).

Yeah, hellohawk. But nothing like having help. I already know what I want for a child's name, but I'm too young for that right now http://216.10.25.192/vhlforum/smilies/biggrin.gif Naming a band doesn't seem like just the band members should name it. Oh well. Put this on the Opinions section? http://216.10.25.192/vhlforum/smilies/wink.gif

Well my friends in LA have a band and were looking for suggestions. They are also Laker fans and I (used to) tease them about how Shaq hates Kobe. So I came up with "Shaq Loves Kobe" as a name. We played around with that one and came up with "The Kobe Luv Shaq". I don't think they used it http://216.10.25.192/vhlforum/smilies/wink.gif

Luv Shaq. Creative! How about 'Atomic Ones'? Combination of my two fav. songs from VH1. http://216.10.25.192/vhlforum/smilies/wink.gif 'Romeo Delight and The Fools'. Hope no one steals my ideas! http://216.10.25.192/vhlforum/smilies/biggrin.gif

RB-M,
How about just: Fools (My all time fav. Van Halen song!!). It might get a laugh or two. Play the song too your band mates.

P.S. What instrument do you play?

Red-Balled Mammoth

Hmmm...true! I, uh, play(right!) guitar. I'm taking a couple of guitar classes at school next month. Maybe then I can play(as apposed to just strumming) my lefty-that's right!- Fender Strat. http://216.10.25.192/vhlforum/smilies/smile.gif

It might also get a lawyer or two to show up - there was already a band called The Fools - "It's A Night (For Beautiful Girls)", "Life Sucks... Then You Die" - in fact, they opened for Van Halen when I saw them in 1981!
