Man, I think we all know about the stories of Nuno playing VH songs in soundcheck during the Extreme heyday, but who knew he was that big a fan? Holy shit. I know it's not a terribly hard song but he got all the nuances and little things down! Still funny though, that while he kicked ass, he sounded like Nuno. Mark of a true guitar great. Also, I know it's Mikes prerogative, but does he HAVE to drink on stage every show?? It just gets a little silly. That's not a bash.:headbang:

Why doesn't he release a cd of his own material with his buddies...Randy Jackson did it and it sells!

Mikey is Da MAN!

what do you mean about Randy Jackson? The one from american idol or the one from zebra? Also, I love MIKE, but I cant say that this was a great version of DOCTOR

Mike is a very cool and down to earth guy. I am happy he has a good life and Family, really a good person.

I'd be curious to do a comparison with the VH2007 version of "Doctor," on a purely vocal level. My money's on Mike. Of course he might also be heard on the VH2007 version, via advanced technology... :D

I meant American Idol; as in, if he can do it - then surely Mikey can!

very cool! Thanks for posting. I love Nuno and Kevin F. (the drummer) and I certainly dig mike and I'm beginning to really appreciate Lynch...so this can go in the "four great tastes that taste great together" folder.

Kinda lacked punch for my tastes, but it was cool to see those guys up there jamming. Nice solo by Nuno. :headbang:

Mike did terrific, that was so cool. My second favorite guitarist (behind I'm sure everyone knows who) and one of my favorite musicians, on stage, performing some Classic Van Halen. Oh, what I would have done to be there...

Thought that was ok, but it was probably very impromptu, so you have to take that into consideration.

Side note: what the hell was Nuno doing grabbing Lynch's guitar neck when he started playing? That's like talking to the guy next to you in the bathroom, it's just something you don't do!

Considering the AMAZING talent on that stage, that was nothing more than average at best. Perfect example that you can't force chemistry.

Because Mike would need to get permission from Ed to release a CD of "his own material". I can't see Ed saying yes.

Nuno played a great Doctor solo and I was impressed. Mikey...well sorry guys but he cant sing for shit as a leader...stick to backup my friend. Plus...I couldnt hear his bass for shit.

I also think the real VH 2007 version kicks this versions ass....as it should have.

I like Mike...just not him as a solo singer. Plus I think George Lynch needs to rest the freakin muscle shirts already...we get it..he's in shape...every damn picture of the guy is him all pumped up....

I don't know, man. Mike kicked ass as a solo singer when I saw Mad Anthony Express in November...

In terms of lead singing, Mike's performance is definitely not as good as the recorded version. But it's better than any of Dave's live version. Because Dave can't or won't reproduce his own melodies live, he drops the melody line and "talks" the lyrics - any singer on this board can confirm this. Mike sings the actual melody note for note, and during the chorus he sings dave's part and then his part (the harmony part).

But of course maybe some you guys don't like the actual melody on VHII and prefer the "spoken word" version of Dave live... :D

I think you are making a blanket assumption based upon some of Dave's past performances.

Has Dave talk-singed his way through concerts in the past? Absolutely he has. But in my opinion he did nothing but sing his ass off when I saw him on this tour. Dave and Alex are holding that ship on course in concert. Anyway, even on album Dave sometimes raps more than he sings, part of it is just his vocal style.

Just my $.02. If you disagree no big deal!:thumb:

I think he was implying that if Mike were to cut a solo record, it would be his version of Classic Van Halen songs. That's what I got out of it...

True. This is also getting old really fast, if it hasn't already. How much of this music did Mike write? Nostalgia tours can even spoil you enjoying good songs. I understand he has to earn a living but this is kinda sad.

And Roth and "VH"? What they're doing isn't nostalgia? I don't (if ever) follow your reasoning.

Mike is playing 5 songs with Sammy plus playing a cover. Hardly a whole tour setlist. Ed is playing 26 songs with Dave....no tour...EVER...could get more nostalgia than that.....I'm not saying that the music is bad....but compare the 2....

And I apologize for wasting your time, Andy....

Doing what? What's your problem with the guy playing a few tunes, or every fucking Van Halen tune? What new VH material are you currently listening too? Fact is, the entire act, regardless of who's participating is pure nostalgia at this point. Fuck, people are nostalgic about 10 minutes ago. Remember 38 minutes ago when you posted in this thread? Those were good times man.:drunk:

Which new Halen? None, which is the point... they're all doing the nostalgia act. Except for Sammy who has the most interesting career of them all at the moment. His live shows look better than VH too. I'd choose to see him over the poor Halen stuff now. Accept the fact, Mike is doing this only because he'd be broke otherwise.

Mike is playing these songs to simply open Sam's shows in a fun style. He's playing the songs people are expecting to hear from Van Halen's former bassist.

Van Halen are playing these songs only for $$$. It's clear Mike's just having fun and it's clear VH are in it for the money.

Plus, 26 songs and 5 songs are a huge difference, don't ya think?

Ha! Make me laugh again! Mike would be broke otherwise?

His net worth is considerable, I'm sure, and he's not hurting. He just enjoys getting out and playing. I seriously doubt if he's doing any current gigs because he's having to. He's doing it for shits and giggles.

Get real dude

I believe that Mike would never have to play another show again in his life, because he's probably set with what he's got. He made a lot of money from VH and I think he's got enough saved up to make a decent living.

Yes Mike would be broke...I guess all the touring with VH was thrown away to countless drug addictions and partying and alcohol and sluts.....

Andy...go back to your room...and I don't want you coming out until you are ready to understand what you have been saying...okay? Go....

Calling VH fans psychotic and crazy...wow!...Helter Skelter!!!:scared: ...well get the swastika branding iron out (forehead at the ready) and a acoustic guitar because I think we have our ring leader in Andy:thumb:

as far as mike being a lead singer...i dunno, but he DEFINATELY needs to get with nuno or some other guitarist and get a new band together and lets gets some new MA shit...methinks he is waiting around in the hopes the bros VH and mimbo will bring him back to VH...wish they would, but it aint happenin. Rock on mikey, you kick ass

It is well known that Mike, probably more than any member of Van Halen, invested his money wisely. It is well documented that he amassed a small fortune on Disney stock as he invested his VH monies in early in the game.

He doesn't have to do anything at this point other than pay taxes and die at some point.

You sir, continue to prove that you are a douche.

To the guy who said it lacked punch....here's a version that lacks "punch" It's interesting just how well Mike fits in with even higher calibur musicians then Ed. He fits like a fucking glove

Mike may not be a frontman but singing is something Mike excells at. It doesn't matter if it's backround or lead. The guy just kicks ass all the way around and always has. He's the Glenn Hughes of Van Halen
