Mike can hold his own while singing lead vox. I think him singing Somebody Get Me a Doctor on the last two tours proved that.

I wonder how a tour and album would have done back in '98 if VH just toured with Mike as the singer, rather than Gary Cherone.

That was the lamest shit i've seen in awhile. Now, MA proves he is a halfassed lead singer and bass player. Look, i like the guy, respect him for what he contributed in VH, which was some decent playing and great backup vocals, yes backup vocals. By him going on the road and opening for Sammy with his band playing mostly classic VH tunes, it makes him really look like and show's he can't create music. Atleast Hagar has some yrs. of solo stuff to play. If MA wants to do something right for a change, he should drop playing anything that is VH related except for maybe 1 or 2 songs and get with someone who can create some new material. By him and even Sammy going out playing VH material, it really makes them both look like a bunch of B league cover bands.

Don't let the door hit your ass on the way out.

Actually, watching you being owned by a door would be kinda cool.

And as far as whining about new music being created.....VH4 isn't doing that either.

VH can't be a cover band when they created the music they are playing. MA never was in the creation process, and just get the facts straight, i'm not a Mike hater, just the opposite. I just think going on the road with Sammy playing VH songs makes him look even more uncreative.

Nobody said VHIV was a cover band. Michael Anthony is going out there playing his ass off and having a great time with no strings attached.

Are you sure you want to get in to a creation process pissing match in a MA forum?? I can't see where you will sway anyone to your ineptness to quality musicianship anyway, so why bother, right?

Dude....with respect....the argument you're making here today is just plain silly.

Ya wanna know who...out of all the bands that are reuniting/reinventing themselves on tour this season....have truly committed themselves to creativity??

RUSH!

The Police - no new music
Genesis - no new music
Halen 4 - no new music

So there we go....you want creativity? Rush had the integrity to put out a new album. The argument just took us away from Halen. Enjoy the trip?

What do you think DLR has been doing for the last 10 years?
Last time I saw him, he played one solo song, "Yankee Rose", all the rest was VH. I got no problem with what Mikey is doing and Vic sounds like he has been working on his chops.

Maybe Mad Anthony's Express could record a quick 5 track EP.

Perhaps record a couple of new originals to play during the set, plus knock out three covers while in the studio. I'm sure Sam could help Mike compose a couple of original tracks for it.

Mike could sell it online through his store, it wouldn't sell truckloads, but it'd be cool for the fans. I'd buy a copy.

I agree Ian! Without a new album to support, to me, touring doesn't make sense.

Some of the little girl whining in this thread is just completely irritating! Has it not been just a matter of months that Mikey knew for certain that he was not going to be invited to be a part of the '07 reunion tour? And yet some of you feel that in those months he should've had the time to create a band, write new material, and be ready to perform it on tour? Oh, OK. :wtf:

My guess is that he truly wanted to be a part of the '07 VH thing and when that didn't happen he said, "Screw it. I'm gonna go out and play with my friends and have fun and in doing that, I'm able to say thanks to my fans and supporters who are standing behind me." What's so wrong with that? Nothing at all, in my opinion. And I would hardly call the Verizon Wireless theatre in downtown Houston and Lakewood Theatre in Dallas "beer halls."

I can tell you that after seeing him in Houston, he's all about doing this for the fans. Before the show started, I could see him standing backstage behind the curtain. We got his attention, gave him the VH hand sign, and the look on his face was priceless. He grinned from ear to ear, pointed to us, and gave us a big "thumbs up." He knew we were there to support him and you could tell it meant a lot to him. It may not be exactly what some of you want, but what exactly would you want from him given the time frame he had to work with.

The MA Express sounded GREAT! I've honestly never heard Mikey's vox sound so good, and yes, Vic is an incredible guitarist. The guy is just too cool. :thumb:

It's fun to see Mike enjoying himself and everyone's right. He has always genuinely enjoyed himself performing. Let's leave the guy alone. You know what he wants to do? He wants to jam, and the current version didn't ask him back. Guy is jamming with Sammy in Cabo inthe sun, and seemed to really love his family there at the R&R HOF ceremony. He's doing ok.

Of couse he wanted to come back. He said he did 2004 because he was afraid it'd be the last one.

What I've never understood is Eddie (and I'm not a hater, I was in Philly 10/1 and I'll be in NJ 11/3). If he is really upset that Mike is out doing VH with Sammy, isn't that a little hypocritical?

HE performed with Sammy, even doing Dave songs with Sammy in 2004.

Dave performed with Sammy in 2002..not too upset with Dave anymore.

So why be upset with Mike for doing the same exact thing YOU and your current lead did?

Let me know if I got my facts wrong.

Mike gets so much love and respect around here! To the point where the babies start whining about it.

Mike, in my humble little opinion, is a cool guy. He is always there for the fans, wants little more than to play for us, and he appreciates us! He's always been so kind to me on the four times I've managed to get a seat close enough to interact with him. Mike deserves nothing but respect. The people around here bashing him just make no sense at all. Most of them are so busy worshiping Dave and Ed that they cannot think clearly, I guess. I am stunned every time.

I will happily admit that I prefer the Dave Era, tho I love Sammy, too. I saw VH4 on both their stops here, and I had a great time at both. However, I can honestly say that the Sam & Mike show was LOTS more fun! Yes, it was great to hear Dave sing the classics, but the enthusiasm and flat out FUN Mike and Sammy have on stage just blows VH out of the water. And besides that, Mike is doing Light Up the Sky and DOA! And it ROCKS!!!

I'd love to see Mike doing some songwriting with his buddies. Bring on Chickenfoot! I'd also love for him to do nothing but deep-cut VH. Whatever he wants to do that makes him happy is what he SHOULD do. And whenever I can, I'll be right up against the stage cheering him on.

It is interesting. My brother, sister in law and my 13 year old nephew are at the Wabos concert in Joliet, IL right now. It is the Rialto Theatre show. I saw Chicago there and behind the building after the show I met members of Chicago. I suggested to my brother and nephew they should try before or after the show to meet Sam and Mike. They went before the show. My brother called me before the concert on his cell after he had some interesting pre-show news for me.

Michael Anthony showed up near the back stage entrance.
My brother was shocked that Mike showed up and ignored the small, minute throng of fans. I know it is one instance but MA did not acknowledge one person who was out there at all. He looked straight ahead and ignored everybody calling his name. My brother said, damn he is supposed to be the most fan friendly VH member and he wasn't. It appears he doesn't always have time for his fans as has been stated.

Sammy on the other hand signed autographs and posed for photos with everybody on his way in when he showed up with his family just after MA. Sam's people said Sam has to get in he'll be late. Sammy said no- I have time and I still have time to pose for a photo, My point to this post is that people remember and make judgements about their own experiences. My brother's will always be that he didn't see how great of a guy Mike was. He was actually he shocked he was ignored. I do realize it may have been an off night and people have stories of when MA was cool to them. People have a different way of looking at things when their experience doesn't turn out the same.

True, I was as shocked as anyone else. Sammy did say they did 3 shows in a row the last 3 nights. Mike may have been hung over, late, or something. That is what my brother told me. He loves Sammy and Sammy led VH. He was just disappointed that Mike didn't end up being as he always heard he was. It was similar to when I met Todd Rundgren and asked him to sign something for me after he signed like 4 autographs. He said, "next time". I laughed and walked away thinking. Yeah next time when we get together someplace. As if I see him around all the time! It was just a let down for me as it was for my bro.

Even stranger during the Mad anthony Express set they had second hidden guitarist. Do you know who it was? I have come to the conclusion that none of the parts of VH on their own are that good. Together they are great, but most of the solo shows I have seen have been sub-par.

Just my opinion, but I think those clips are horrible. But in all sincerity I am glad that everyone who went enjoyed it, just not my cup o' tea. And no, I wouldn't go see a Dave solo show either anymore, in case anyone thinks I am bashing Sam and Mike.

Interesting you say that, considering, of course, the songs they're performing were written as a band. I think that's the mark of a good band, that they count on each other (sub-consciously) to produce the magic. The parts still perform well individually, as there's a lot more to it then a few videos can show. But the current "Van Halen" tour is just parts, just more parts than the Sam/Mike tour.

No need for that. Just one fan doing for another.:)

Ok. Here's the deal. Finally got it loaded on Photobucket/video.

Apparently i didn't load the program that allows you to post video's longer than 5 minutes. The vid is 5:33, but it gets cut off at 5 minutes.:brickwall

Do you want that?

The link should be working.

It does for me, and two linkers have used it too.

Not sure why it's not working for you.

Thanks chef.

I have some disc problems in my neck that was causing me great pain to hold the camera up over my head for 5 plus minutes.

I was literally grimacing with pain after the 3 minute mark.

That might account for some of the shaking.:D

I think the bottom line is that Ed was just looking for any excuse to just get his son into the band, plain and simple. He had to find some sort of reason to make it justifiable to throw Mike out.

I just saw VH at MSG and it was a great show. I def. did feel like something was missing with Mike not being there. Anyone who says Mike was not important in the band is only fooling themselves. IMO he was such a big part of the character of that band.

Anyway, I hope Sammy and Mike come around to the NYC area, I really wanna see them also.

Vic does a good job on 'Hear About It Later'. As for Mike, it was ok. It was just weird not hearing Dave sing it.

Pretty cool. Vic sounds great. Mike's voice sounds very out of key especially on the leads. :( I dig Mike but his voice is wavering a lot here. Music sounds excellent though.
