Again... From the first go around.. Feel free to add to it!

Down the Drain:

Some time you gotta roll with it up ma
Some things are better left in the closet
Some things just laying on the table
Some time gotta stop gotta pause it. Yeah. Yeah.

Well, you use to wake me up for breakfast
Force feed me with a silver spoon
Even do me when I’m dirty
Well let it roll to waveman’s doom.
Oh yeah, mama

Yeah but, all that’s changed
Cause it’s all down the drain! Yeah!

Oh, love came wind like lightening
Strong enough to feel the heat
Thug life in the night will wonder
What the wings are under my feat, but…

All that’s changed
My whole worlds been changing
It’s a long and dirty shame
Cause it’s all down the drain!

Oh I need love, first thing in the morning
I need love baby, first thing in the evening
I need love, oh first thing in the morning
I need love love love! Oh oh gimme!

[Guitar solo]

Baby, all that’s changed!
My whole worlds been changing!
It’s a long down dirty shame!
Cause it’s all down the drain!

Down the drain! Down the drain!
Yeah, yeah, yeah!
Come on, come on, come on
Get it, get it, get it
Yeah, yeah, yeah

Oh baby I need love
First thing in the morning
I need love, last thing in the evening
But it’s all down the drain! Yeaaaaah!

Thats pretty good man. I made a few changes and they are in bold. Pretty sure they are right. The 3rd verse section is tough. What you put sounds close. I think it may be different. I tried to decipher it too, makes no sense but it's kinda fun to try. lol Thanks and peace.

Well, She used to wake me up for breakfast
Force feed me with a silver spoon
Even do me when I’m dirty
We'd let it roll till way past noon.
Oh yeah, mama

Yeah but, all that’s changed
Cause it’s all down the drain! Yeah!

Oh, long came a wind like lightening
Strong enough to feel the heat
Thunder like the ninth world wonder
But the wings aren't under my feat, but…

All that’s changed
My whole worlds been shakin
And it’s a low down dirty shame
Cause it’s all down the drain!

Oh I need love, first thing in the morning
I need love baby, first thing in the evening
I need love, oh first thing in the morning
I need love love love! Oh oh gimme!

i like half the lyrics and the other half are crap. He had something going with the first verse and the chorus but then he starts in with the whole "she used to wake me up for breakfast...let it roll til way past noon." The parts about sex are pretty cheesy...i wish he would have stuck with a different train of thought but overall, it's a good song.

Man, maybe it's because of my age, but something about 60-year-old guys writing entire songs about sex just weirds me out.

Some time you gotta roll with it upfront (confronting the VH situation)
Some things are better left in the closet (EVH addiction issues)
Some things just lay it on the table (Hagar perspective)
Some time gotta stop gotta pause it. Yeah. Yeah. (Time to quit)

Well, She used to wake me up for breakfast (Used to be in VH)
Force feed me with a silver spoon (Forcing Wolfie on everyone)

Am I reaching here? Maybe.

I'm not crazy about listening to songs with 18 year old guys singing about sex so I choose to listen to very little music written by 18 year old guys, as talented as Chris Brown may be...

yeah, i think i know who you are
i love you,
i wanna be with you
but that can't happen with him in yo life

I just can't believe your still with him
'cause its all to him that were not together
and just because you wont break it
i can't be with you
just 'cause he's so rude
and beats you up
don't mean you shouldn't stand up for yoself

I know that i can't be with you
i know that its all to do with him
but i just wanna let you know
that i love you
and im so happy we get to spend time together
but i know i still can't be with you

i don't think he gets it
i dont think he understands
but i know what
you really want, woah
and just 'cause he can't think
don't mean you need to make
his decisions

I know that i can't be with you
i know that its all to do with him
but i just wanna let you know
that i love you
and im so happy we get to spend time together
but i know i still can't be with you

I know what it feels like
we have all been there before
but this time its dfifferent
this time
it's between us two
and him

I know that i can't be with you
i know that its all to do with him
but i just wanna let you know
that i love you
and im so happy we get to spend time together
but i know i still can't be with you

umm...just a little...maybe ;)

Tell you what though...the first verse is really cool. I like the way the words work with the melody and the music. I really wish he would have stayed away from the juvenile up for breakfast bit after that though. The "force feed me with a silver spoon" is cool but he completely loses me with "Even do me when I’m dirty, We'd let it roll till way past noon." :brickwall

Awesome job, Bostonian! Thanks for doing this!

Minor comment from me: I think it should be "shaken" not "shakin." My world's been shaken, as opposed to shaking. I don't think it's an earthquake reference. ;)

Sorry. I'll be quiet now.

I don't know the meaning of those lyrics but I would find it hard to believe that the lyric 'up for breakfast' isn't tied to VH. Silver spoon is 'inherrited wealth' so I don't think it is too much of a reach to tie that to Wolfie.

Who knows but I'm pretty sure Sammy has written several lyrics directed at the brothers since his initial departure.

Thanks Shari. That was me who made that mistake. Sadly thats what I meant but put in as if it's in present tense.:o Bostonian did the awesome job of starting this thread and deciphering much of it. I have just tried to fine tune it.

Latest revision: I'm sure this will be helpful for the people who maybe want their bands to play one of these tunes this summer and need to copy/paste & print out the lyrics.
I'm sure many people into the tunes would enjoy having the lyrics as well.
Thanks to Bostonian for starting the thread. I hope my revisions are helpful and correct. The 3rd verse section still troubles me. Not sure how accurate it all is but seems close.

Peace

Well I'm sure many of Sam's life experiences tie into his lyrics. Wouldn't be surprised if experiences a close friend of his like Mike had sneaked into his lyrics.

I personally think it's a strech to make too many strong VH connections to it.
My initial thought for the Down The Drain title/phrase could maybe reflect his and or Mike tenure with VH. I doubt the whole tune is meant to be a coded message to them or a release of emotion detailing his thoughts on their fallout.

Dave was born into a reasonably wealthy family too. I know it's much less applicable but saying silver spoon is a direct link to Wolfie imo is a stretch.

I really think these guys in CF just meshed well and are having fun and the tunes came fairly quickly for them. Though some of the lyrics may have originated in thoughts regarding VH I seriously doubt any of it is truly meant to be about or directed to them. I think laboring this point is over analyzing and reaching for something that isn't there. Sam did have a career and name b4 and after VH. It's not like VH was his whole life. I doubt he's that tormented by it.

Peace

Maybe it's in reference to Dave's song "A Lil' Ain't Enough" in which he says "I was born without a silver spoon, but I'm gonna make a stir".

It would be funny if Van Halen started naming their albums in response to the names of Chickenfoot's albums like they did with Dave's solo albums. Maybe they could call their next album "KFC" or put Alex on the cover and call the album "Drumsticks". :D

What is it with Sammy and lyrics about food? I think Sammy only has two thoughts: food and sex. :D Oh, and tequilla. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Still, I could do without the food references in songs.

these are in fact pretty retarded but just because DLR has written crap lyrics doesn't mean that Sammy doing so is somehow beyond acknowledgement or criticism..in fact, I'm not sure what Dave has to do with anything related to a Sammy Hagar song.

Dave has written some shitty songs, so have millions of people.

AVH Blues
03.30.09, 12:44 PM
DLR has written some awful lyrics when he actually writes some and not recording other people's songs. He has some gems too but the vast majority are weak lyrically. Dave in his younger years did a little better job but that is almost always the case.

People like to rag on Hagar but seem to forget he has produced solid songs in all his bands as well as his solo careers. He has written more hooks in any one stage in his career than most people will in their entire lives.
