NEWS - Sammy Hagar/David Lee Roth Co-Headlining Tour Announced
04/17/2002
(4/17/02, 7 a.m. ET) -- The long-considered tour featuring former Van Halen vocalists Sammy Hagar and David Lee Roth will finally become a reality this summer when the two rock giants join forces for a co-headlining trek across the United States. The Hagar/Roth tour will kick off May 29 at the Blossom Music Center in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio and span 21 dates overall through late June.
The pair announced the tour at a press conference at the Hotel Mondrian on Los Angeles's Sunset Strip Tuesday (April 16). Hagar appeared in his typical attire--brightly colored T-shirt, jeans, and sunglasses--while perennial showman Roth made his mark in black leather and with an entourage consisting of three curvy blonde women in fluorescent yellow cat suits and a male midget in an Andy Warhol wig.
Both will perform their own complete 90-minute sets, with Roth showcasing Van Halen hits almost exclusively and Hagar mixing both the songs he sang with his former band and favorites from his long solo career. Hagar said there is no plan to share the stage, unless "it becomes that."
Roth said that the pairing would make for an undeniable rock show. "Whether you've owned any of the records or the albums, whatever, between the two of us, what do you think it is? Probably somewhere between 80 to 100 million records before bootlegs were sold," he said. "Whether you've owned it or not, you've heard Sammy or my voice tearing out of a pick-up truck in front of you in the driveway at the local Burger King for how many f--king summers? And now, the time is appropriate now because we have a whole busload of people out there who've been waiting way too long for something really good to happen with this music, and we're gonna serve it this summer."
