Friday at the Lane County Fair is the last scheduled DLR show for this summer (I think). So get out and enjoy!

Ditto on missing the Santa Cruz show last month. Dunno why he's avoiding LA like the plague.

It seems like Dave wants to play where he wants, when he wants. That's probably why he hasn't gotten with some other bands for a tour.

I figured he was being ironic when he asked why Dave hasn't played with 80s bands like Quiet Riot, since Dave's dislike for Quiet Riot is well-documented.

Damn, thanks for the post, I can actually make this show!
Seeing Foreigner ($10) tomorrow (Wednesday) night, right here just south of Eugene in Grants Pass, Oregon. Mick Jones, Jason Bonam, but no Lou Graham. What the hell, who needs "complete" classic bands anyway?
OK, hold your fire on that last line! ;)

Ah K, fair enuff! Found out my seats are at BACK of floor section, I'd assume in a smaller venue this would be in general area of soundboard (unless they do it on side of stage like some acts have done lately), so sound should at least be good. As for more on cancellation of Idaho..... I'd say that it would be a stretch to imagine ID as any fertile VH territory, let alone Dave or Sam territory. A very good percentage, though certainly not majority, of us Oregonians have migrated from down south, and to those who are Oregon "Lifers", I mean no ill towards you with that statement! just fact!!
Portland has been VH'enized, but Portland is it's own state compared to "the rest of us" ;) .
Just highly stoked that this WILL be my 1st VH related gig......after being a fan from the time my late older brother bought a tape after hearing them blow up on KROQ! OK, I am done. lol...........

Just got back from the show, and must say I was suprised that Dave's show was as good as it was! He seemed to get his mojo running after the first half hour or so, and not saying that he really started off bad, but it just got better as time went along. Took my mini-disc recorder, and I guess I was just a little too blatant with the exposed mic, anyway, got some decent quality audio before the security chick shut me down (after start of "Somebody get me a doctor" :(
Setlist was same as the one posted at his site, minus "Yankee Rose".
The url below for "what I got" will work as soon as file is uploaded, more or less working backwards, should be good to go by Saturday wake-up time ;)

Hey, I went to the show too. Was in the 2nd row right in the center. Took about 70 photos of the gig. Met Diamond Dave for the second time after the show (had him sign a picture from the June '03 Portland show) and was able to talk to Brian Young, Ray Luzier, and Toshi after (got them to sign the Diamond Dave CD booklet). All were pretty cool...good show for sure. Had hoped for a pic of Dave and I together but it didn't happen. Maybe I didn't hang around after long enough.

from a recent email...

Hello Pete,

Thank you for your inquiry. Unfortunately, ticket sales for David Lee Roth were not nearly what we had anticipated so we had to cancel this event. This is the first time in the history of the Silver Mountain concert series that we have ever been put in this uncomfortable position. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Best regards,

The article starts off saying Roth is 49 years old????? Either Roth is still being generous with his birth date or the writer didn't do much research.

Skid Row and Quiet Riot are playing Fredericton October 6th, I'm psyched. Bach or not they're still great.

I'm jealous bro. I won't miss him next time around, that's for sure. Soul Sirkus and Steve Vai more than made up for any other concert I'd miss this year.

One question that I have yet asked, but I did think about it, so I will ask & answer it myself after seeing the show......(and admittedly, my opinion has changed)
"Could the David Lee Roth that performed Friday August 19th at Eugene front Van Halen in concert?"
My answer would be a solid...
YES.
Unanswered questions would be (besides the obvious "how'd they get along by show #2?") would he be able to sustain what he had that particular night, and how would he write & perform in the studio?

if the unanswered questions also garnered "positive" responses, I think he'd be back in it. Now, as for the "obvious" questions, everybody has opinions on them, and we've heard them before, so......LOL
But I will add this observation---As "predictable" as it may have been, the Dave tours of late have had a very consistent & structured setlist. This would appear to have really worked in his favor. And for the record, during the show, the words "Van Halen" in any way shape or form, were not aknowledged in any way, good or bad.
So, as always, it's a great time to be a member of the "no news is good news fanclub"!

I emailed her the day after. Here's what she said:

Hello, David.

I'm glad you liked the story. It's funny you mention his age. The
allmusic.com site, which I've found to be pretty reliable about stuff like
this, has his birthday as Oct. 10, 1955. Oh well — 49, 50, he's is pretty
good shape either way! I've never considered myself much of a Van Halen
fan, but as Roth ripped through hit after hit on Friday night, I kept
thinking to myself, "Oh yeah, I like this song." It was a better show than
I'd expected.

Cheers,
Carolyn Lamberson
