After MUCH effort by my wife and her associate, Saturday April 18 was declared Autism Awareness Day by the Phillies and the City of Philadelphia. The lucky wife actually got to stand on the field during the proclamation, while her poor suffering husband (yours truly) had to sit in the stands :(.
Just wanted to say thanks to the whole Phillies organization for making that happen.
Did you know that at the present rate, in 10 years one of every 10 children will be born with an autistic spectrum disorder? Just food for thought...

Kudos to the Phillies! :thumb:
Good for the organization!
My cousin's son has autism, the only one we know of in the family. Before him, I really had no knowledge of the disease much at all, apart from what you of course read and hear.
What's kind of sad in many ways of course is my cousin actually died of a heart attack three weeks ago at 41. Just dropped dead. Unreal too, not overweight, an athlete, etc. Stress and high blood pressure (which he took pills for) did him in. Anyway his son wasn't even able to come to the funeral because he just wouldn't understand. He still just doesn't have any idea his father is dead because he can't seem to grasp the concept or understand. It's very sad.
What a positive vibe I have given to this thread. :)

I've said many bad things about that orginization, but one thing they get right are their charity functions. They're easily the best orgainization on Philadelphia in that respect.

And I see the Phillies celebrating Launching Pad day on Tuesday giving up seven homers to the Mets, the seventh of which was a grand slam. The seven homers by the Mets was a single game team record for the Mets.

On a serious note, your wife must feel really proud of her accomplishments.
