IN FLAMES... a highly regarded swedish melodic death metal band in the underground metal community. (And if you want my opinion, you have to look for underground bands today for REAL GOOD MUSIC.)

To put it simply, they litterally have Iron Maiden in their rear view mirror when it comes to sheer melodic intensity.

The death growl vocals might turn some people off, however. It took me qwuite a bit of time to get used to them. But know this: before I knew IN FLAMES, for me ALL death metal bands sucked.

The lyrics are about mystical stuff, so don't worry, no gory Cannibal Corpse like lyrics.

Now you're gonna have to trust my opinion on this, only ONE album is just as good as Iron Maiden's Brave New World this far in 2000, and it's In Flames's CLAYMAN!

I gotta agree with ya on this one (mark your calenders). I heard of In Flames when they covered a Metallica song and I recently heard some of their album. Not bad for death metal. It is great if you are pissed off and need some hate filled, loud music to take the edge off. Although, I wouldn't mind if they got a different lead singer, that dudes voice kinda annoyed me.
Ah yeah, good Cannibal Corpse reference. Yeah, I really dislike their music, but ya gotta respect a band with song titles like Fucked with a Knife, Raped by the Beast and Skull full of Maggots http://216.10.25.192/vhlforum/smilies/rolleyes.gif

Man I have started a new job, and don't get to surf the net anymore!! I am way too busy.
Anyway, yeah I have loved the twin guitar sound since the best 2 guitar band out there - Thin Lizzy hit the world back in the 70's.
I'll have to check this one out Doc.

I like all sorts of music so that is no worries, sounds a bit like Accept but heavier from your description.
