View Full Version : If Mike plays those songs, he'll upstage VH

If the Mad Anthony Express plays "Dirty Movies" from FW, I'd say his show will probably be more interesting than any show on the VH tour. Hell, I say play the whole Fair Warning album from start to finish: then no serious hardcore VH fan will even pay attention to the official tour.

Fans of other bands often get old albums played in their entirety. Not us, it must contradict some idiotic VH rule from the Howdy Doody Manual. I say Mike, give the people what they want!

I like Mike as much as the next guy and truly believe he has gotten the shaft, but he is just the bass player and there is no way on God's green earth that what Mike is doing will ever upstage VH. Not saying it is right, just saying that is the way it is.

That may be the silliest post I've read here.

BTW, if Mike were to do that, most hardcore VH fans would simply see both shows. :sssh:

I have to say, this thread topic is utter nonsense. Mike will upstage VH?? Even if he does all of FW he would upstage VH??? umm . . . no.

This is laughable. But hey, at least your nickname suits ya!

Mike's not going to upstage VH LD, sorry.

And who's gonna play Mean Street, Vic Johnson?

Not that I believe Edward would do it any better these days though. I'd be much more happy seeing other half doing other half's stuff and listening to my VH studio records.

Not gonna happen....neither playing Dirty Movies or upstaging Dave's reunion with Ed.

That said, Mike taking over lead vocals on some classic rock covers for this Mad Anthony Express he's headlining is definitely worth checking out, I think.

Actually, I believe that Vic Johnson could most definitely play the Mean Street intro. He's a really underrated player.

But no, MA playing a few obscure VH songs won't take any attention away from the current VH tour. That's not to say that I wouldn't check it out though.

This wouldn't be the Other Half (or Hagar/Anthony as I like to call them), it would be the Mad Anthony Express.

I'm not saying Mike will upstage VH with the main stream media, of course. I'm saying here on the Links, with the hardcore VH fans. There is a big risk that the VH setlist will be stale, and with carefule song selection, the Mad Anthony Express could be a force to reckon with.

I believe "Drity Movies" has never been played live. It's one of VH's best songs ever. Mike playing it would be a big event IMHO. Mike's not only the bass player and back-up singer of CVH, he's also a really big fan of obscure old VH songs.

Stale in terms of songs that get overplayed on the radio--yes, However, you're hearing them live.

Stale in terms of Dave having been out on the road doing a similar set, maybe. However, Dave's audiences have dwindled quite a bit and the guitarist wasn't named Ed.

Stale in terms of songs VH has performed? Well, VH has only done 6 songs from the six pack over the last 22 years, and none with Dave.

Some of the songs may feel stale to some(I know I could certainly do without hearing YRGM), the uniqueness of these three guys doing those songs for the first time in 20 years will overcome much of that.

There really isn't anything Mikey could play that would upstage it.

Another way to look at it, let's say that in 2004 Dave threw Dirty Movies into his solo set. Would that have upstaged anything? I don't think so.

I have to agree. Upstage? No. It'd be interesting to see nontheless...probably be pretty kickass. But the term 'upstage' does not compute.

It might just be better to **quietly** (meaning not get going on another VHIV vs. Sam&Mike perpetual quarrel) think about what will potentially be the better show. We know Sam, Mike & Co. are all healthy and have a proven track record of putting on super-energetic, fan-friendly shows. We know there'll be a lot of VH (and other) songs played, mostly spanning the past 30 years. With VHIV we know it will cost an arm and a leg, the set list will be selections (mostly hits) from the six pack, a kid is playing bass, MA's b-vox will be lacking, Dave's performance abilities will be in question, and Ed's performance abilities will be in question.

I love Mikey, but Edward's work on FW can only be played by Edward. I wouldn't mind seeing Mikey vocalize some of the other stuff tho.

Maybe the song selection Dirty Movies isn't a good example?
