Here's an mp3 of DLR on Stern from yesterday. Dave shows up as a surprise guest and confirms the worst kept secret in radio. An interesting note: apparently Dave has a 5 year contract at 4 million bucks per year. Don't count on a reunion an time soon. :(
This file will only be available for a few hours, so grab it now.

Goofy question....does anyone who lives in one of the cities where Dave is going to be broadcasted know if their radio station is available via internet stream?
Atlanta is one of the few markets where Howard Stern's show isn't on the air.

I have to admit, Dave seemed very serious and very down to earth on the show. He didn't seem wild and nutty like he has before. Nice to hear! Thanks!

I think alot of his "wild and nutty" came from too much coke. If he's cleaned himself up to be an EMT, I doubt he'll be as wacky as before. I say good for Dave. If you can follow a dream, more power to ya!

I have not been a big Roth fan over the years, but honestly, I think he will be great. He's very funny, obviously very smart. The question comes down to whether or not people will give him a chance.

I stopped listening to Howard in the mid 90s- that's when he stopped being intelligent with his humor in my opinion. I will listen to K-rock again in the morning. Dave is a smart, funny guy, who I hope gets a real chance to succeed

I couldn't agree more. Just like Classic VH, the Classic Stern years were unbelievable.

Roth didn't get where he is by being a slow learner, and I take some comfort for his future prospects in that.
But there was a clear subtext in this interview, folks.
Radio as an industry is populated by managers with sales backgrounds, who, like the uninformed outsiders they're not supposed to be, are convinced that any idiot can do a radio show. Doesn't matter whether you've honed your discipline as a broadcaster or not; all you need is energy, a personality, a showbiz record and **boom**, there's your four-million-dollar gig. The reason Air America blows goats is not a total absence of consumers for their platform, but because they've failed to realize that you can have a well-established public persona and still be a rank broadcasting amateur. Far as Limbaugh and his gaggle of reasonably successful imitators go, the general rule is that they were all broadcasting professionals first, before they found their niche as right-wing fucknuts.
Thinking outside the box is rarely a successful enterprise without a complete understanding of the box itself. Stern would never have gained the foothold he did without a profound, street-bred understanding of broadcasting as a craft and profession, and the limitations of same. The importance of that experience is what he was ever-so-gently trying to clue Dave in on throughout the discussion. Listen to it again with that perspective in mind. That Dave appeared so out of his element on a few simple questions of politics and entertainment - when anyone who's paid attention knows he's anything but clueless on these - can be chalked up almost purely to the greenness behind his ears in this medium.
Dave appears to acknowledge intellectually that there's a huge difference between being an entertaining passenger and actually taking the driver's seat, but one gets the sense he doesn't truly realize it in his gut - though he will, and very quickly. He hasn't been through his "college of musical knowledge" in radio yet, but he's about to get a crash course.
It would give me great pleasure to see him pass. I hope he does.

This is the Dave that I have been craving for years.
He sounds intelligent, and distinguished, yet youthful at the same time.
He looks great.
How could Ed not listen to this and think...wow Dave's grown up a bit..
Now with this Dave in front of VH, they would not be a laughing stock.
Thanks for that interview, very enjoyable. Dave did sound great. Intelligent, thoughtful and perfectly willing to take a back seat and not steal the limelight. Stern on the other hand sounded like an arsehole with some very thinly veiled digs at Dave which came off badly. Stern's ego is ridiculous. Dave's seems to be very nicely in check thankyou very much.
BTW. Fuck the FCC and everyone like them.

I agree! I was very, very impressed with how Dave handled himself. He was very down to earth and very, well....nice to hear. He really seems like he has gotten it together so much that I would be completely behind a DLR and VH reunion.

I think the real question is why would Dave want any part of having to deal with Eddie and Alex if this thing really takes off for him?

Well I live in a Bob & Tom market, they used to have Mark & Brian up here (Southern Oregon by the way, and they had a format change at radio station they were at and dropped them--and it really pissed me off because during the Gulf War I worked for those guys sending them tapes from other servicemembers to their wives and whatnot, before they started to syndicate). So anyway, Bob and Tom is widely avilable on terrestrial, Mark & Brian, at least in the past you can find on a particular station's website (not KLOS since AFTRA). But Howard's show was different. He was ahead of the game and was charging big bux to be able to access the show online---at least the last time I looked. Just hope Dave's show is available online at a REASONABLE price ;) Some of the stuff I said above may be outdated only because I've been too doggoned busy to search and listen to morning drive-time stuff, haven't tried finding any online radio content since coming back from overseas. ;)

This is a little off topic-but has to do with some of Dave's quotes over the years- what was that quote he said about 3 rings about marriage, wedding, suffering, etc?? Anyone? I thought it was brilliant.
