Oh, I don't think you are alone there! I think quite a few of us shared that experience. A few more I can add:

White lion
Cinderella
Winger
Dokken
Ratt
Britny Fox
Kix
Enuff Z'Nuff
Slaughter

Scarier then that? I will still pop in a mixed tape of this stuff or a CD compilation now and again.

Poison, an admitted guilty pleasure. "Unskinny Bop" rocks!!! Also, The Crue, even though I don't really consider "Too Fast For Love" or "Shout at the Devil" to be hair metal.

WINGER RULES!!!!!!!!!
Damn, couldn't even type that with a straight face. Does anybody actually like Winger?
The only hair bands I kinda liked were Quiet Riot and Twisted Sister. BTW, does anybody else think that Quiet Riot is one of the coolest band names ever.

About three years ago I was in my parents garage and came across a old cassett case that was mine during high school (87) it had some great old tapes in there. Had to wait till I got home to listen to them and dig up a old walkman - CD age and all.
Some of these tapes were in pretty sad shape but still a great walk down memeory lane.

Of course VH was in there.
1Ratt
2Judist Preist
3Def Leopard
4AC/DC
5Poison
6Litta Ford
7Cinderella

I still love the Scorps! Love their sound! Love Klaus Meine's voice. In fact, my Fiancee and I went to see the Scorpions and Motley Crue last summer. ( I had to talk her in to going with me. She said she outgrew this stuff . . .although she did ask me to try and get Def Leppard tickets for this summer.) We LOVED the Scorps! Their show was great! Thumbs down to crue though. No Tommy Lee and Vince sounded like a cat in the vacuum. I used to like Crue but no after that concert.

Balance- Funny thing about Winger. I remember back in the day when Metal Heads, ESPECIALLY Metallica fans, were always ripping on them and saying they had no talent. I don't think they ever forgot me telling them that Reb Beach could smoke Kirk Hammet and James Hetfield on guitar.

In fact, one night about a year ago, my old friend Danny bought me a drink at a bar while Winger's "Seventeen" played on a jukebox. ( It was like an 80's theme that night in case you are wondering.) (Very rare he ever buys drinks!) He told me it was for being right about Reb Beach many years ago. We laughed and toasted. Then Danny said, " I also bought you a beer because I feel sorry for you." I asked why is that? Danny said, " Because you wake up every morning not knowing if Van Halen have a singer."

. . .I drank to that!

I remember Faster Pussycat was opening up for Whitesnake and they stunk reeeaaaaalll bad.

The highlight of their set was when the guitar player got on his knees to play one of his God awful solos and some guy horcked on him, Yuck! Needless to say the set ended promptly. It was terrible but I laughed so hard, I almost passed out!

I'm not saying that they are a terrible band, I've never heard a tune from them, (other then at the concert), but if they are good, they were having an off off nighthttp://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/biggrin.gif

I'll admit it I'm a Warrant fan. Some of the 80's stuff was OK but most was pretty forgettable. Warrant's released a couple of cool new albums on CMC records. Ultraphobic in 1995 and Belly to Belly in 1996. Pretty good stuff, definately a lot different than what they used to sound like.

FORD

Okay, I will admit attending a Bon Jovi concert in 1989 and actually owning a few of their CD's. I still own White Lion's "Pride". I don't really consider the Scorpions or Motley Crue to be part of the hair band thing. As for the Poison/Warrant/Slaughter/Firehouse, etc. etc stuff..... better left buried in the past.

Christ...the infamous hair bands. How many have I seen in concert. Well, Poison, Ratt. That's an interesting story. The first time I saw them, Poison opened for Ratt. The second time...Ratt for Poison. I've seen Tesla, Great White, Whitesnake and Faster Pussycat. I've seen Cinderella, and Warrant. Christ...how did I fit all of this between Van Halen. I really dug Motley Crue, and I've seen the Scorps, Kingdom Come, Metallica and Dokken. Monsters of Rock gang. I concur with FORD...the Crue came out of the hair bands, and I don't think the Scorpians were ever a hair band to begin with. It's all a matter of belief though.

Christ...part of me misses the 80's.

I'll admit to buying the Winger tapes when they came out, and I always caught shit for it from this one buddy of mine. It didn't help when Beavis & Butthead were popular and the one wimpy kid on the show (I forget his name) always wore a Winger t-shirt! That was good for a few laughs at my expense (lol).

Anybody hear of "Shotgun Messiah"? I had a tape of theirs that wasn't bad. Another lesser-known band was "Love/Hate". Their "Blackout In the Red Room" album wasn't too bad, as I recall.

Pojo,

I am with you man, I miss the 80's too! Ratt, Dokken (remember "you're rockin' with Doken"?) Warrant, Firehouse, Lep, Mr. Big, Slaughter, Kixx and the list goes on...
Speaking of Kixx, I heard that awesome song "Don't close your eyes" the other day on the radio!
and on Rock 101 in NH (I live in Boston) at 4pm they have the 4 o'clock hair-cut... Where they play two songs, man I love it.. I would be driving home from work in a suit and tie crank up some Crue and just enjoy the ride home.

I grew up on the 80 hair bands. Man, talking about all these bands really brings back some memories, great times. Some of my fav's are Ratt, Bon Jovi, Judas Preist, Dokken and Winger. I don't know what the big deal is and I hate it when people bash the 80's bands because you know they liked it back in the 80's.

I saw Poison ope for RATT. Poison open for DLR. Poison headlining with Warrant opening for them. RATT was my favorite hair band. Still are. Stephen Pearcey is not good live. Has a scratchy ass voice. By the way, they released an untitled cd in June 1999 that is pretty cool. Oh yeah, Stephen Pearcey left and they are now accepting demos for the next singer! ratt & dokken were the best musical hair bands, IMO.

Stevie Nicks

You wanna talk about hair? Well, who had more hair than Stevie Nicks in the 80's. But she's not really a "hair band."

Ozzy and Judas Priest, even though Rob never really had much hair.... still doesn't actually.

Cripes! I like 80% if the bands people mentioned! Except Cinderella I hate their singer voice ugh! I don't understand what hair bands are anyway, that's if they all have long hair right? I'll mention a couple I really like.

Van Halen is my favorite by a million times!
DLR
Extreme
Whitesnake
Scorpions
Skid Row
Motley Crue
Ozzy Osbourne
Damn Yankees
Alice Cooper

There's nothing wrong with 80's metal. I get irked sometimes, hearing all these DJ's and whoever talking shit about "hair bands", knowing that these were the same assholes promoting them in their heyday, getting free tickets to their concerts, and listening to them on the radio ("Up next, the new one from Posion! Yeah!"). Now that they're not cool, they think it's time to start trashing them. They sure as hell weren't trashing them when they were getting backstage for private parties, wearing "Access All Areas" passes, free promos, etc.

My faves? Too many to list, but here are a few:

-BulletBoys (totally underrated!)
-Winger (I listen to them now and I *still* rock out!)
-Britney Fox
-Slaughter
-Poison (tho C.C. DeVille makes me sick)
-Cinderella (was it just me, or did anyone else think Tom Kiefer was too overbearing?)
-Warrant (I saw them blow Posion off the stage in San Diego)
_Great White (The *best* blues-based rock n' roll band, hands down!)
-Fastway
-Scorpions
-Dokken
-GNR
-Damn Yankees (With Uncle Ted onboard, you can't go wrong!)
-The Cult
-Def Leppard ("High n' Dry" is their best effort to date)
-Iron Maiden
-Ozzy (is God)
-Queensryche (They fucking rock. Period.)
-Vixen (Sure they were chicks, but they were chicks that rocked...and you could look up their skirts when they were onstage! http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/smile.gif )

I loved and still love Night Ranger! They are fuckin' amazin', Brad Gillis and Jeff "8 finger tapping" Watson are the best couple of guitarists together in rock history!
Aside from them, I love Winger (Reb Beach on guitar, but the great Rod Morgenstein on Drums!!!!), White Lion (Vito Bratta), Danger Danger (Andy Timmons is a great guitarist too) and Great White.

Now be honest everyone would you rather listen to a quote unquote 80's hair band or Kurt Cobain mumble his way through a three chord grunge track. Give me the 80's any day of the week. MTV and radio are all such fickle bastards. They promoted the hell out of these bands back in their hey day but now they won't paly them at all. Listen to some of Warrant's new material, it's better than the stuff they came out with in the 80's but they can't find any mainstream outlet to give them the opportunity to be heard. It's a bunch of BS!!!

I see YankeeRose put Extreme. I wouldn't really call them an 80's band. They had there first record in 1989 and were more a 90's band.

For the record, Ozzy, Aerosmith, Def Leppard, Judas Priest, the Scorpions, Queensryche and Kiss were not "hair bands" (I prefer the term hair metal). Hair metal was not just about big hair, it was about a certain sound -- metal coupled with pop-rock. Kiss never did the hair metal sound, they were pretty much straight hard rock. Same with AC/DC -- no frills hard rock. Def Leppard did combine pop-rock with metal but they did it first and long before "hair metal" was even a term. The Scorpions and Aerosmith have been around since the the early '70s and, while both did hair metal-like albums, hair metal bands they ain't. Queensryche was progressive metal (not hair metal -- doesn't matter how they dressed). And Judas Priest is "just" metal.

And Extrems is partially a hair metal band -- doesn't matter that most of their albums came out in the '90s, their first two albums are definitely hair metal albums.

Remember, hair metal it isn't about the year or the look, it's about the sound.

1. Bon Jovi- I don't care what anybody says, these guys, hair or no hair, have written some great songs. "New Jersey" is still one of my favorite albums and "Keep the Faith" is one of their best songs. I can't wait to hear the new stuff. I like the Bruce Springsteen, workingman type lyrics(although they're some rich MOFO's)mixed with the anthem-like choruses. I like "hooks",catchy stuff. Damn! I think I'm getting way to into this. Sorry.
2. Cinderella-Long Cold winter,"Heartbreak Station" and "Shelter Me"
3. Dokken,Lynch Mob
4. Poison- They're My biggest "Guilty Pleasure"
5. Tesla
6. Great White
7. Whitesnake
8. Def Leppard(HOOKS Baby!)
9. Night Ranger
10.Skid Row

Here's Some cool "one hit wonder" "hair" songs:
1.Inside Out-XYZ
2.Come Along-Salty Dog
3.All Lips and Hips-Electric Boys
4.Smooth Up in Ya-Bullet Boys
5.I've Been Your Fool for the Last Time(Does anyone remember the name of this band??? I can't think of it.)

Def Leppard-You must check out Retroactive, its by far better than anything else they've done! There's none of those Radio Friendly songs on it except, Two Steps Behind and Miss You In A Heartbeat which are very cool tunes. They is all B-Sides to singles and are better than the singles IHO!

Yes Loudness!! Now there is a band you don't here about. Lightning Strikes is a killer albumm, so is the first on, Thunder In The East. Dokken was far and away my favorite band next to VH. Back For The Attack is an amazing album, and still one of my favorites of all time. Very underrated band, and should not be lumped in their with the hair band label, as a lot of other bands shouldn't. All band had long hair, it took a certain element to make them a hair band IMO. A cheesy ballad on MTV for one. Anyone a Stryper fan? Message asside, this band had immense talent. Soldiers Under Command should be considered essential 80's metal.

While this may shock the hell (no pun intended) out of some here, I was a MAJOR Stryper fan in high school, and still have all of their albums. What can I say? I was into Christian rock big time back then and Stryper was far less cheesy than most of it. They sounded like a real band. And I'll agree with the VH influence on the last album. As far as hair bands go, these guys were probably among the best.

For the most part all of the bands listed rocked. It is such a shame that a label such as hair bands were paced on them. It is done in such a negative way. I loved the 80s style rock. Whether you thought that they were cheesy or ripoffs of someone else at least they could play an instrument and write their own music. I can respect that. That is something that todays music is lacking. Has anyone seen that show "Making the Band"? It is how music is made today. Throw a bunch of boys together, teach them how to dance, and give them a song to sing.

Anyway I don't think anyone mentioned the band Autograph. I believe Micheal Anthony had a hand in getting them started, right?
