SAMMY HAGAR - HAGAR FORMS SUPERGROUP WITH SMITH, ANTHONY + SATRIANI

AMMY HAGAR, RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS drummer CHAD SMITH, guitar legend JOE SATRIANI and former VAN HALEN bass player MICHAEL ANTHONY have formed a new supergroup.
The trio plans to record a new album under the name Chickenfoot.
Smith tells ThePulseofRadio.com he became involved in the project simply because he's a neighbour of Hagar's in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
He says, "If you're in Cabo, of course you know Sammy 'cause he rules the joint.
"He's a really nice man, he's a great guy actually. Somehow he's taken a liking to me, and we played in Vegas, and we played some cover songs - we're a good cover band now.
"Him and Joe got together up at his place and they wrote, like, five things together, and we'll see."
Hagar adds, "We've written eight, nine songs... When people hear the music, it's Led Zeppelin. It's as good as that. I know that's a mighty bold statement... We could rival Zep!"

How many "supergroups" has Sam been in now? Every time he does something like this, he always makes remarks about how incredible the music is. Rival Zeppelin? Come on Sam. I'd be willing to bet that this project never even sees the light of day. Don't get me wrong, I dig Sammy, I'm just not all that jazzed about a band called Chickenfoot.:wtf:

I have to disagree with you,

Sammy went from Montrose to being a solo artist.
He was offered to join VH, He didn't ask VH to join them.
Besides Sammy joining VH, Together because of Sammy, They sold more #1 albums & sold out arenas. 5 #1 platinum albums, Dave only had 1 platinum with VH. I like Daves music VH or solo, But If that was true of all the side project bands Sammy getting involved in, Then it wouldn't of made sense of selling out arenas with VH. Put it this way, When Van Halen 3 was out, along with DLR band, Sammy's Red Voodoo album & tour sold more then VH3 & DLR Band put together. If you don't believe that, Do some research, You will find out the truth.
Thats why Sammy can do other projects, Because he knows what he's doing.

What people don't realize is, If it wasn't for Sammy, There would be no VH reunion at all. After Sammy had his reunion, He's the one that told Alex that he thinks it would only be fair for fans to see a Dave VH reunion too. Alex then took Sammy's advice, Talked to Eddie about it, Then it happened.
Thats a fact!

Sammy likes to keep these bands going even if he has to get involved.

If you disagree with that, Think about this: On Sammy's tours & albums, these artists did music with Sammy: Steve Perry, Neal Schon, EVH, AVH, Michael Anthony, Huey Lewis, Slash, Meatloaf, Leslie West, Joe Satriani, Jesse Harms (Was 1st with DLR), Chad Smith, Alice Cooper, Jerry Garcia, Rob Zombie, Bret Michaels, Ted Nugent, Gary Cherone, Toby Keith, Kenny Chesney & lots more over the years.

How many musicians can you come up with who played with David Lee Roth?
I'll bet, Not many

I love Sammy & Dave music, But if they can finally co-exist like Sammy says, I think it would be awesome to see another Hagar/Roth tour, or VH & Hagar tour Song for Song tour if Eddie keeps hisself together.
(with Michael Anthony as well)

You can't tell me, That wouldn't be an Ultimate Van Halen reunion.
The Best of Both Worlds would then make sense.

Sammy Hagar + David Lee Roth + Van Halen = Van Hagar

Forever Sammy, VH & Dave fan,

Danny "THE WABORAT" Wissert

"I'm really not interested in being in that band right now. I'm so much more interested in our little Chickenfoot project," Hagar said.

"To me that's 10 times Van Halen, because it's functional, we all like each other."

The fact that people still bash Sammy on this site is crazy. Is it not obvious that he was not the problem? Look how dysfunctional Van Halen is except for mike, Sam, and even Dave to some degree. How many times have we heard we will never play with Dave, all of a sudden they are brothers again. Sammy enjoys being a rock star, and so does Mike and Dave. What ever Sam wants to be envolved in will be grat because it about having a good time. The current Van Halen line up is only concerned with making money. They don't do interviews, very little press, it's a joke. This new line up has no future. It would be great to listen to this Super Group if it ever happens. Sam is not the problem it has been Ed all along and he is getting worse.

Chickenfoot? :spit:

Sam’s jealous because the Van Halen tour is/was a success and he can barely fill a Casino these days with his band. Every interview he does (which seems weekly) seems to have some conflict between what is Van Halen these days and who Eddie Van Halen is. This sort of “supergroup” thing reminds me when Dave put together his band with Steve Vai and Billy Sheehan when all the feuding between Van Halen and him was happening. Sam’s doing the same thing here and rebelling and trying to gain some sort of satisfaction or reaction from Eddie Van Halen.

Regardless, Van Halen is doing much better without him these days (although I had hoped Mike would be part of this tour) and the only thing that’s relevant between both parties is Van Halen continuing with new music or continues to tour after a short break.

it's gonna be interesting to hear this band, even though Satriani has never made singing music.

I don't really care what Sammy is saying outside of the LZ reference. The last time a band made a claim like that was Oasis about the Beatles. However more power to Sam and I hope it works out. The reasoning is that it might light a fire under Eddie's ass. He may want to put out new music just to try and spite Sammy. Possibly with Dave.

I also agree the name should be changed. Should call it HSAS again. Hagar, Satriani, Anthony and Smith.

I still remember two of the very first posts upon announcement of Dave's hiring as an employee of Ed Van Halen last year. It was Brett and OLO, and they both forecasted something like 'The flip flopping around here is going to be insane.'

Back then, I was happy the band was back on the road but it certainly wasn't the version I was hoping for. Anyone that knows me can confirm I'm a classic Van Halen fan first and I always believed Dave would be back where he belongs. If anything, there was more bashing going on about how Dave couldn't sing anymore when he was doing his solo thing a few years back. I saw Dave more then a few times over the past few years and he sounded great and always said he would do well if he ever returned to Van Halen. If you want to talk about the "flip flopping" that went on here, when this tour took off, there were many who bashed Dave in the past but suddenly said he sounded better then ever!

I just think its pathetic how Sam is doing more and more of these interviews and criticizing Van Halen just for his own self-promotion. He can put together any supergroup but it still won't be better than what Van Halen are doing now.

I just love how Hagar states he wouldn't get back with Van Halen since Ed falls off the wagon now and then and needs to get clean first. Hey Sam, ever think maybe they don't want you back? Sam thinks he can call the shots if and when he can return, lol. This tour is more successful than anything Sam has done with Van Halen in years and it burns him up cause 2004 was a complete failure. And this is without Mike in the band.

Either way, I'm glad Dave is back and new music or not, the tour was a success.

Al, you couldn't have been more stoked about that tour. You can understate all you like. We remember. The '04 tour was hardly a failure. This tour in many ways is more a joke than that one, though both suffered from a lack of insight and dedication from a certain guitarist.

Nice try. But it was a guarantee that you would be one of the fellas to switch wagons as the circumstances suited.

No big deal, you're entitled, doesn't make you a bad person. But don't act like you were all Anti-Sammite during that tour.

First VS,

I'm not going down that road again with you, I'm too old for that shit now. :)

But I will say this. I wouldn’t use the word stoked, intrigued would be more like it. With everything that was going on with Van Halen supposedly having it’s third falling out with Dave as Ed has said about the 2000 thing and rumours circulating who would be the lead singer. I was certainly happy they were going to tour and I saw them perform in Buffalo Toronto and Hamilton and I actually won tickets for the Buffalo and Hamilton concerts. It certainly was the worst tour they did with Sam and with Ed a total mess the entire tour it was a disaster. I think you were being sarcastic saying the 2004 tour was hardly a failure considering the half-empty venues they played to compared to sold out shows on this tour. Ed’s playing was probably the worst we’ve heard during the 2004 tour and compared to what it is now, you get most everyone on the links agreeing his playing is remarkable. I have not heard any complaints from anyone that went to see the band on this tour and for the most part, everyone on the links feels it was a success.

I’m not switching wagons on anything and my views about Sam have nothing to do with what happened in 2004 but what he’s acting like recently. I’ve seen every incarnation of Van Halen through the years and have always maintained my favourite era was the classic version. But when Hagar puts himself out there like he has recently criticizing Van Halen, I’ll call a spade a spade and there’s no need for it especially when this tour has been a success and everyone who never had the chance to see Dave and Ed on stage are finally doing that. The only thing I agree with Hagar is Mike should’ve been a part of this thing but oh well, it was a great concert. I saw 3 shows in Toronto and what is being hailed as one of the best shows on the tour, the concert in Montreal.

This tour, much like 2004 there is no new music (if you want to call the 3 songs a great effort they did with Sam for the 2004 tour) but than again, we finally got to see Dave on stage with Ed playing the classics after 23 years or so.

It was not the Van Halen of old but many more people left the concert feeling satisfied than disappointed.

At least that’s been the consensus around here.

Again, intrigued yes, stoked is too generous of a word considering most of us knew what to expect with the 2004 tour considering the band had no new cd with more than 3 new songs on it. You don’t have to dig up anything, I remember writing a review about the concert, I’m not discrediting that. I was at the Hamilton concert when Ed basically threw his guitar at his roadie at the side of the stage and was a complete mess. I also remember the Toronto concert when Ed nearly fell back on his ass after the first tune. It was sad. The concerts of 2004 had it’s moments but certainly nothing from 1986 to 2004 could compare to anything Dave performed live with Van Halen and certainly can’t compare to what this tour is in terms of being successful especially they classics they’re performing. I know that comes across as a bias opinion but again, I’m a pro-Dave fan first and always have been.

And yes, I remember that clip you have but that was 1995 not 2004. Actually that clip was put here by someone who is not on the links anymore. I think you know who I’m talking about. Anyway, there is a difference between what the band was in 2004 compared to 1995. I remember Hagar doing an interview on a St. Louis radio station saying the tour is not likely to last and he was told not to wear his Cabo shirts on stage. There was nothing to be “stoked” about when there was clearly separation between Hagar and Eddie. I already said I've seen every incarnation of this band so obviously I was a fan of every era. The fact I don't appreciate what Hagar is saying these days is normal considering he's not in this band anymore and really has other motives for doing this.

I'm not denying and neglecting the "Van Hagar" days but I really have no use for Hagar in Van Halen now.

Mike, that's another issue and like I said, it's too bad he wasn't a part of this tour and should’ve been.

As for rehashing other issues or "ain't rubbin' your rhubarb" as you put it; mentioning the fact that some things are better left in the past, especially pointing out the different names or whatever isn't really necessary, don't you think?

You left here or banned yourself and came back. So why target me specifically whenever there's an issue with Hagar? I was simply stating my opinion about his comments in the press were made to get a reaction out of Eddie Van Halen. It had nothing to do with the tour of 2004 being a complete failure although you want to compare that and the fact Van Halen 2007-08 is not a success. Or how I was front row for a Van Halen show in 1995. C'mon man, we're past that already.

Things come full circle and the fact that Dave is back in Van Halen for however long, is what satisfies me the most about this band.

This has nothing to do with what happened in 1995 or 2004. It's about an opinion I had for Hagar's gripe and motive for starting a supergroup and wanting a reaction from Eddie Van Halen.

Did you really post that VH had only 1 platinum album with Dave? Wow. I've heard of Sammy math but that takes the cake. I've actually been a Sammy fan for years, but the Wabo crap is just old. Always hoped he could hook up in a band with Joe. He should shred on Van Hagar tunes.

Not sure where you get your facts but I'm pretty sure Jesse Harms was Sam's keyboard player before he played with Roth. Do you actually own any albums Hagar made before 1996?

Dave only had 1 platinum with VH

Van Halen: Released 1978, 5x Platinum by 1984
Van Halen II: Released 1979, 3x Platinum by 1984
Women & Children First: Released 1980, 2x Platinum by 1984
Fair Warning: Released 1981, Platinum in year of release
Diver Down: Released 1982, 2x Platinum by 1984
1984: Released 1984, 4x Platinum in year of release, 5x Platinum by 1985

Van Halen had got 18x Platinum certifications by the time Roth left the band.

Hagar's releases in comparison (at the time he first quit the band):
5150: Released 1986, 5x Platinum by 1994
OU812: Released 1988, 3x Platinum by 1989
For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge: Released 1991, 3x Platinum by 1994
Live - Right Here, Right Now: Released 1993, 2x Platinum in year of release
Balance: Released 1995, 2x Platinum in year of release

So at the end of Hagar's tenure, in 1996, he had earnt his albums 15x Platinum certifications. When they got re-certified in 2004 the band had an additional 3 Platinum certificates; this was in an 8 year period. 1985-1993, the same length of time for Roth era material, Roth's albums had earnt an additional 5 Platinum certifications.

I'd be bitter at Ed too. He fucked up 2004......and screwed over Mikey...I mean look how he treated MA....good god......( i still get the red ass about it)...what could have been.....and what is now.......VH4....dumb.....Wolfy is dumb.....great for DLR fans but dumb for Van Halen fans.....

So, lemme see here... Sammy's in the band, always plays to the fans and treats them right.
Mikey's there too, ditto, knows that the fans pay his paycheck and looks genuinely pleased to be there.
Satriani, also the same, truly nice guy who appreciates the fans.
Chad, well, he's the unknown, only guy I haven't met, but gotta believe that birds of a feather flock together.

I don't care if they call the band Chickenfoot, or Cleveland Steamer, or Go Fuck Yourself. 4 seasoned pros that love what they do and play great music, I'm there!

We'll have to wait and see about the rival Zep part. Personally, I think it's blasphomy to even suggest something like that, especially if you make that comment about your own band.

Maybe what he meant to say was that it has a Led Zeppelin-style sound to it.

This sorta reminds me of the David Lee Roth Eat 'Em 'N' Smile Band and what a great album they made. There is hope for an awesome album, but Zeppelin it won't be.

Hey numbnuts; platinum does not refer to an album going to #1. It refers to selling 1 million copies. Both eras had it's fair share of platinum. If you were referring only to #1 albums, you should have said as much.

Fair Warning 2 mil

Van Hagar
5150 6 mil

Sammy solo only has 2 platinum albums Standing Hampton & VOA
compared to three for Roth - Crazy from the Heat, Eat em and Smile, Skyscraper.

Also VHIII was certified gold while Red Voodoo is not so it seems you are wrong on many accounts.

I have no fantasies regarding VH but I enjoyed this latest tour greatly and would really like VH to bring back MA and record a new disc and follow with a tour.

Although VS was certainly ouspoken about the decision to include Wolfie over Mike and was one of the band's biggest critics, whenever asked, he always stated he wasn't sure if he'd go but would probably end up going. You(and others)may have simply assumed he wasn't going because of his outspokeness, but I don't recall him ever flat out saying he wasn't going.

Flaming trolls are only slightly annoying. Lying trolls are a kick, since they have nothing backing their bait.

Hey...by the way, my seats were better than yours. Van Halen 4 was a joke, but I still had a better time than you did.

Speaking for myself....:)

Didn't "clog every thead" with anything (unless giving an opinion that is opposite the Ed apologists is considered clogging every thread lol)

I never once said "Boycott the tour" I said I wasn't going. Don't give a shit what everyone else does.

I stand by No Mike/No VH .....well, because it ain't VH without Mike:smokin:

Never said the tour would "flop". There's more than enough sheep to pay the inflated price for 3/4 of Vh and the tour's gross proves that...... Ed and his mortgage company thank you. ;)

And no, I didn't attend a single show, don't regret it, didn't even know they were in town a couple weeks ago till I got an email from Live Nation trying to sell "just released tickets" for the show lol

This all has what to do with Sammy's new band?

Good post 'Paw. ^

I've been wondering what this all had to do with the Supergroup as well.

My grandmother is 99 and is in assisted living and I can't imagine how cool it would be to be visiting and ask her what event they are having today and she says some rock singer will playing and it turned out to be Sam.

The closest I came to celebrity while visiting her was when she was in a nursing home after a medical problem I ran in to former Sen. Jesse Helms who is now in the advanced stages of Alzheimer's. He asked me how to get out of the place and I said that I didn't know Senator. He replied that he needed to call his people to get him out.

Howz those albums lookin' these days, bunny? ;)

I'm working on a new set now....the six pack in vinyl again, except with the uber rare black market limited edition sleeves of VH 1 with Wolfgang airbrushed in place of Mike, and WACF with the pic of the band airbrushed out.

Signed by all four members of VH 4 of course. Framed and put behind UV glass, as per collector standard.

It's gonna be suh-weet. http://www.clicksmilies.com/s1106/musik/music-smiley-008.gif
