this has probably been on here a thousand times, but have any of you ever made your own guitar from rough lumber? i want to try it but i have no idea where to start, if there are any websites or helpful hints you know of, let me know. thanks
I don't mean to shoot you down Mark, but I watched my tech do it, and unless you're really good with tools, and have all the power tools you need at your disposal, you're in for a heck of a job. You have to have an extremely good eye for tolerances, as well as knowing how to pick the density of the peice of wood you want to start with.

thanks for telling me that! i never would have guessed yu need to know the density and what not. i'm glad i asked first. you have a guitar tech? is it like your own personal tech or what? thats pretty rad.
No, he does work for me as well as a no. of others. We've been friends for quite awhile, and he's been building guitars from scratch by hand for over 20 years. I've watched him build a guitar from the ground up, and he told me he screwed it up a number of times before he got it right. There are a no. of good luthiers in every city who can help you if you're serious, but you might want to have one of them do the body cut out and planing etc. My tech builds the necks by hand as well, and that's an art in itself. A good luthier can build a guitar to your specs with out all the headaches. I don't know if you've checked but there are a no. of kits out there with bodies made out of every kind of wood you can think of and designs you could probably alter yourself. Top Jimmy, if you check this post maybe you could help Mark out. Good luck with your project.
