Lets see what we can come up with: I am trying to see how far we can go with a Van Halen "family tree" . All you have to do is start with Van Halen members and relate them to other bands/members of different groups: Example: Van Halen to Black Sabbath:
DLR of VH played with Steve Vai who played with David Coverdale who played with Rudy Sarzo who played with Randy Rhoades who played with Ozzy who sang for Black Sabbath.
I could go on forever ....who can go the farthest? Let's have fun waiting for the big announcement...

I can't come up with much of a family tree right now, but I think it's funny that Ted Templeman has been a producer for Sammy Hagar, Van Halen, Van Hagar, & David Lee Roth.

Maybe one day he'll bring all the VH members together for a peace summit.

Cool topic!

Ok here we go.
Sammy played with Slash from Guns and Roses on Marching to Mars, GandR opended for Mettalica who used to have Dave Mustane as a member, DM went on to form Megadeath.

Also Mickey Hart of the Greatful Dead played with Sammy on M2M, the Gratful Dead can link alot of ways to a lot of bands, but the one I like is that Bruce Hornsby has played some shows with the Dead over the years, kind of funny the you can link Bruce Hornsby to VH in just a few short steps.

Van Halen to Metallica: DLR played with Joe Holmes on the Lil ain't Enough tour. Joe Holmes took lesson's from Randy Rhoades who played with Quiet Riot and Ozzy. Ozzy played with Steve Vai (very briefly)..Steve Vai took lessons from Joe Satriani who also gave lessons to Kirk Hammett from Metallica.
Let's keep this going!!!!! Very interesting posts.

Pete Angelus was with the Van Halen management team and he helped design the Fair Warning cover, then he managed David Lee Roth, and now manages the Black Crowes.

I wonder how Pete Angelus got credit for designing the cover of Fair Warning, considering it's a piece of artwork by artist William Kurelek. Maybe he decided which part of it would be the cover, since it's a collage type picture.

That is interesting, but his name is on the cover. Maybe he picked it out and that's why they're giving him credit.

Actually, the cover art was Alex's idea. Alex originally wanted the cover to be just the picture of the guy ramming his head against the wall.

Well, it's the drummer's job to hit heads (drum heads)

Sorry, I know that was bad.

Ok here is another one i thought of.

Dino Bettencourt(sp?) was in Extreme with Gary, and Dino married the lead singer of a group called the Baby Animals that opended for VH with Sammy on the OU812 tour, Baby Animals opended some shows, but not all on that tour.

I wonder if they all compared stories of there time with VH after, or before Gary left?

Van Halen played with David Lee Roth who played with Billy Sheehan who now has his band called Niacin where Dennis Chambers (drums) actually PLAYS and he once played with a guitarist called Allan Holdsworth who is Eddie Van Halen favorite guitar player.

Cool topic. Now here is mine. Prepare yourself for an amazing ride.

Phil Collins is RELATED, believe it or not, to SLAYER.
You don't believe me? Look at this.

Phil Collins plays in Genesis with Peter Gabriel. Peter Gabriel leaves for his solo career and gets Tony Levin as bassist. Tony Levin plays with 3 members of Dream Theater on Liquid Tension Experiment. Dream Theater did a song with Barney of Napalm Death. Bill Steer of Napalm Death was in Carcass. Mike Amott of Carcass founded Arch-Enemy, which included Sharlee D'angelo. Sharlee played with King Diamond, who played with Andy LaRocque, who played in Death. Death had a guitarist called James Murphy, who made an album with Testament including Dave Lombardo, who was the drummer in the eighties, for the mighty SLAYER.

Need more proof? http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/biggrin.gif

Everything there is perfectly true.

And of course Van Halen is related to this since: DLR played with Jason Becker, who played with Marty Friedman on Cacophony, and Marty was in Megadeth. And Megadeth had Kerry King of SLAYER help them in their early days.

Plus, Megadeth drummer Jimmy De Grasso played with Alice Cooper, who did a song with Sammy Hagar.

Plus, Dream Theater ex-keyboardist was once with Alice Cooper.

Amazing isn't it. Everything is linked together.

Isn't it amazing how everyone is "related" to one another? SLAYER? who would have thought of that? I thought Van Halen to Black Sabbath was impressive (to my friends) . Keep coming with these family trees..I think we are all learning that (almost) every band is related to VH somehow. I am thinking of more..but now I am enjoying what you are coming up with!!!! Keep em coming!!!

Okay we've got 'em to Sabbath and Alice Cooper, feast on this. Sabbath had Eric Singer as a drummer, who was a member of KISS, also Alice Cooper played with Kip Winger, who had a guitarist named Reb Beach, who is now with Dokken. Not quite done yet. We've got Sabbath-Singer-KISS, I'm taking it further. Singer played for Lita Ford who deuted with Ozzy and dated a member of Sabbath, he left to play with Gary Moore, Left for Badlands, left for Alice Cooper, left for KISS. KISS- ACE PETER PAUL GENE- Ace Frehley played with Anton Fig who is the drummer for the Late Show Band ( Letterman), Fig's replacement was, Billy Ward, who was replaced by Jamie Oldaker who drummed for Eric Clapton! Not done with the KISS ties. Vinnie Vincent played with KISS, then formed Vinnie Vincent Invasion, Mark Slaughter was his singer Dana Strum played bass, they later formed Slaughter, and opened for KISS on Cool In The Shade Tour. I could really get outta control with KISS ties so I'll just leave it at VH-Gene Simmons's Demo.

House of Pain: you mention Badlands in your last post: Who else did the Lead singer sing for: Was it Deep Purple? If it is we can keep going and going and going..just with Badlands ..By the way...Badlands was a great band) Jake E Lee to Ozzy to Randy Rhoades to Tommy Aldridge, Rudy Sarzo to Whitesnake to Deep Purple to David Coverdale to Vivian Campbell to Def Leppard to Euphoria When VAN HALEN announces some NEWS!!!!!!http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/biggrin.gifhttp://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/biggrin.gifhttp://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/biggrin.gifhttp://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/biggrin.gifhttp://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/biggrin.gif

but I hope if someone somehow links 'em to say, the Backstreet Boys that we all start preparing for the end of the world, 'cause I'm pretty sure that's one of the signs that it's coming!

Huh, Whtcha mean Vaijr? Which lead singer. Coverdale? Does he have Badlands ties I don't know about? All I know is Singer got his real break with Lita who he left to join Sabbath for, moved onto Gary Moore, moved onto Badlands, and then moved onto Cooper, then KISS. If you have ALIVE 3 it has a KISS family tree in it. There you can find what each member of KISS did prior and previous to KISS. I mean you can find out that Bobby Rock played drums for VVInvasion and then went on to Nelson! I mean how crazy is it. Go buy KISS ALIVE 3 just for the KISS family tree, and the Live version of Creatures Of The Night, I Was Made For Lovin' You, I Still Love You, Lick It Up, Heaven's On Fire and another live version of Detroit Rock City! Now it was released when Singer was frsh off the Revenge tour so it doesn't say what he's doing now.

House: I just looked up the singer for Badlands: He played briefly with Black Sabbath. He also (of course)played with Jake E. Lee, George Lynch and a few others...BUT...he died in 1993 !!! Now I am depressed..he had such a great voice! Later!

Ok, Spanish Doctor linked Slayer to Phil Collins, which is impressive. But...On a Disney soundtrack or somehting, Phil Collins sang a song or two with the Backstreet Boys...which of course would link the Backstreet Boys to Slayer.

Now, Eddie played Guitar on Michael Jackson's Beat It. Micheal Jackson owns the rights to all the Beatle's songs (I know, I was shocked too). so this would link Van Halen to the Beatles with only two connections.

OK!! You asked for it!! http://216.71.70.54/vhlforum/smilies/smile.gif

The key to this is Journey! It doesn't matter how you get to Journey (either b/c Hagar worked with Neal Schon, or that VH once opened for Journey). However, the interesting thing is that you would think that the number of people Schon has worked with would get you the most...but it doesn't the key is the Steve Perry-to-Kenny Loggins combination.

Here is what you get with Van Halen to Journey via Neal Schon.

Neal Schon worked with:
(1) Santana - to Rob Thomas (Smooth)to Matchbox 20.
(2) Jan Hammer
(3) Bad English - to John Wait to The Babys.

Now for the fun...Steve Perry worked with:
Kenny Loggins, who worked w/ Jim Messina (Loggins & Messina).

Messina was in:
(1) Buffalo Springfield with Stephen Stills and Neil Young, who were later in CSNY; Young links to Pearl Jam; Graham Nash (CSNY) was in the Hollies. David Crosby links to the Byrds and Phil Collins (duet), and as noted, Collins eventually links to Slayer, but Collins also links to Genesis, which links to GTR (via Steve Hackett), and GTR links to Yes (Steve Howe was in GTR and Yes); Howe, via Asia, gets you John Wetton and then King Crimson. Howe via Asia also gets you Carl Palmer of Emerson, Lake and Palemer.

(2) Messina was also in Poco, which also featured Randy Meisner and Timothy B. Schmitt of the Eagles, which gets you Don Henley.

Don Henley gets you:
(1) Patty Smythe and Scandel
(2) Trisha Yearwood and Garth Brooks, who also worked with Kiss
(3) Linda Rondstadt (Henley and Frey were in Rondstadt's back-up band, the Stone Poneys), and Rondstadt gets you Aaron Neville, Emilylou Harris, Dolly Parton; Dolly Parton leads to Kenny Rogers, and Kenny Rogers leads to First Edition, the New Christy Minstrels, Kim Carnes, Lionel Richie and Sheena Easton.

Lionel Richie gets you to the Commodores and Diane Ross, and Diane Ross gets you to the Supremes. Lionel Richie also gets you the 'We Are the World' crowd, so everybody eventually links, LOL.

Sheena Easton gets you to Prince, who also worked with Sinead O'Connor and the Bangles.

(4) Don Henley also worked with Stevie Nicks, who of course was in Fleetwood Mac. Fleetwood Mac gets you John Mayall's Bluesbreakers (Mick Fleetwood), which gets you Clapton, then the Yardbirds, which gets you Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page.

Page obviously links to Led Zeppelin and The Firm, and Chris Slade (The Firm) gets you to AC/DC. Paul Rogers (The Firm) gets you Free and Bad Company. Page also gets you Puff Daddy, which eventually links to everyone, also LOL!!

Beck gets you Donovan, whose daughter is married to Adam Horowitz of the Beastie Boys.

Well, that 'bout sums it up. LOL.

To think...VH to the Supremes and Garth Brooks...who would've thunk it?? http://216.71.70.54/vhlforum/smilies/smile.gif

Forgot to add:

Stevie Nicks recorded w/ Tom Petty, and Tom Petty recorded w/ the Traveling Wilbury's.

Traveling Wilbury's get you Jeff Lynn, then ELO. Also gets you Roy Orbison.

Also gets you George Harrison and the freakin' Beatles!! http://216.71.70.54/vhlforum/smilies/smile.gif
