Ok the poll is getting the finally polishes before I let you guys start voting.

The way we're going to do it is through a points structure, sort of like how they do the MVP awards for sports. Everyone will get to pick their top three favorite posts out of the 10 nominees. You will place them in order, so that your favorite post is put in the Number 1 slot, Number 2 in the #2 slot, and #3 in the third slot. Your #1 post receives 3 points, #2 fav gets 2 and your third choice receives 1 point. The post with the most points will be the winner, and the user who posted the message will win the prize.

Everyone must be a registered board user to vote in the contest, that won't apply to most of you, but we do have lurkers here who haven't registered a username yet. Everyone can only vote once, and the points will be updated daily manually, as we are not using a script for this voting, I want a little better control over it, and there are a lot of point variables involved.

The winner will receive a choice of two VH videos, the list will be up later this week. Voting will run through January 3, 2000, so we can get in three weeks of voting.

A special thanks to Gibnight, Victor, and stevo who all so graciously spent time going through all of the November posts for their nominees. Thanks guys!

Contest should be available later today, check here or on the VHLinks.com home page for the contest voting page.

Whomever you have selecting the nominees is doing a bad job. Those posts that have been nominated aren't very good posts and it is clear that the persons selecting the nominees have a bias against anyone who isn't anti-Cherone or anti-Coverdale. Poo, poo on your selections, they suck.

Brett

Sorry you feel that way, Chag. I don't. Considering I'm not anti-Cherone, nor is anything on this site anti-Cherone, your argument is way way off. Anti-Coverdale? Who cares, this is a Van Halen site, not a David Coverdale one to begin with, and if the most intuitive post happens to be a slam on him, then so be it. I take offense to both of those remarks. Those who were judges found these particular posts to be the most interesting, and enjoyable. I happen to believe that those who selected them did a fine job, and I didn't see all the nay-sayers running to volunteer.

Well, you guys did a poor job of selecting candidates. I read all the posts you selected and there was little that was insightful. Seems you were shooting for the clever punchline or the gimic. Hey, maybe you guys aren't anti-Cherone but it sure seems like it after reading those posts. Poo, poo on you.

Whatever dude. There ain't no gimmick, as I don't have to give anything away on this site to get visitors. I just thought it would be fun. Clever punchlines certainly make for good posts, they don't need to be three page diatribes to be interesting.

I understand what you are saying but, man, some of the posts chosen really stunk it up. I realize everyone has a difeerent viewpoint but I still can't see how some were picked over others. I realize I'm never going to be one of the "chosen few" but there were a few posts last month (from other posters, of course) that I thought were brilliant and they weren't recognized. Instead of crying about it, maybe I should be one of the people selecting. How do I go about that?

Chag, what do you mean you'll never be one of the chosen ones? Come on, that's ridiculous, the people who were judges were three of the more impartial people on here. No ones holding anything against anyone else. A good post is a good post.

I kept asking people to volunteer to be judges. I asked in the newsletter, on a thread in this forum. Even repeated the question when I only had one person volunteer.

If you want to do it next month, I would be more than happy to let you do it, just tell me you want to.

I would have to go back into November to find specific posts, my memory is good but not THAT good. As far as my comment goes about how I will never be one of the chosen ones, that comment was not directed at my perception of bias on the part of the judges but rather, it is a lack of confidence in my own ability as a poster.

Oh please, you certainly are more than articulate enough to make a post to qualify as "good" on this board. This ain't the Harvard University Law Department message board. http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/supergrin.gif

Well, then I am being silly, I tend to do that now and again. Self-confidence has always been something I'm lacking.

We all lack that in some capacity my friend.

hey brett, whats up? can i make a suggestion with out being ridiculed,? , i think it maybe better to vote on the topic rather than on individual posts. you get a better understanding of what sombody was trying to get across with their "topic" . the more interesting topic will cause people to open up, and more people will respond to that topic . rather than voting on a response (post) to a topic. but your the boss and its whatever you want. thanks.

Judging by the voting (or lack there of), I think that picking the best thread might be the way to go next time Jeff. This way just didn't work, and that's fine, now we know what will work better.
