I'm sure both Mike and Sam must've picked up at least some Dutch in their prolonged stint with the world's best dutch band!

The irony.....
Jeff Beck, Paul Gilbert and Satch with Chickenfoot -- now that is some serious fretwork for a single day!

All great players! For my $$ Paul is the real whiz there. The guy has taste, a cool attitude, and can blaze just about anyone under the table.

Wait, what was that...a Paul Gilbert mention around here?!? Well then, I shall issue my usual comment:
Don't. Get. Me. Started.
The MOST underrated "known" guitarist on the planet, period.
Thank you, that is all for now.

Right on bro. I've been a fan since Street Lethal. I attended a clinic once and had the lucky chance to sit with him afterwards and pick his brain/jamout for a few (knew the music store owner, lucky me!). He gave me some cool tips for my picking hand. Anyway, he is such a nice guy...got the same feeling when i met Gary and Mike in '98....cool guys. But Paul is a monster....he was the highlight for the last G3....to me, Satch and Petrucci were outshined.

Let's start a Paul Gilbert vs. Satch subtrend.
To me what makes Satch different than all the other "instrumental" guitar players is that he is also a good riff writer ("Satch Boogie", "Surfing," "Hords of Locusts," "Memories," "One Big Rush," "Summer Song", etc).
And this shows on the 2 CF tracks. :D

100& agreed.
He has a GREAT sense of melody and emotion and feel.
But you're 100% BANG ON, imo.:thumb:

can't wait to see the US dates! I'm holding on to hope that those rumours about them playing clubs turns out to be accurate and I can see them at Warehouse Live or House of Blues.
I'd like to see Chickenfoot do an outdoor show here in Connecticut. I'm tired of going to the casinos to see rock concerts.

Did anyone else see Paul's quote in the Zloz Classic VH photo book?
"I have three Gods. No. 1. The Beatles. No. 2. Classic VH. No. 3 ....... No wait, I only have two Gods!"
What makes Paul different for me is that even when he is playing speed metal, there is always a little Beatles-like change, harmony or melody thrown in to keep it musical not just shred and technique. The dude's right hand picking technique is as good as anyone's, he can sing, write great riffs (and pop songs), has a great sense of humor (check out "Paul vs. Godzilla" on his new album) and his last two instrumental albums kill!!! (And include a beautiful tribute to EVH -- Three E's For Edward -- and a liner note for EVH to get healthy).
Satch, on the other hand, is perfect for the Feet. He has been writing heavy rock anthems for 20 years, good simple grooves and song structures, but with the guitar taking the vocal lines and choruses. By and large, the shred and technique come during the solos and the embellishments not from the basic song.
But if you want to see a cauldron of fire and inventiveness, try to get to see Beck on a good night before he stops playing guitar again. I caught Beck and Vai on back to back nights a couple of years back. Vai was awesome but hearing Jeff live in a small club was a joyous revelation. Durng the entire show, I felt like Beck was on a tightrope, walking that fine line of total inventive daring and a bucketful of clams. All night, he just found a way to get to a beautiful place every time, over and over.

Ahh, House of Blues. Now I can (legally) see shows there by myself since I'm 17. That'd be fantastic if they played the HOB.

We just got one here in Houston. I've never been to one and I'm thinking a Chickenfoot concert would be a GREAT way to lose my House of Blues cherry!:headbang:

I was at one once with my buddy and his dad years back, they're a lot of fun. Always wanted to go to one just my buddy and I, and we almost did for Extreme last year, but as hard as we tried we couldn't bypass the 17 or older rule. Stupid as hell.
Now I can bypass it, so I look forward to The Foot. Plus, I think it's GA, so get there early enough you work your way to the front. That's what I plan to do!

Yes, all 3 mentioned are indeed great players, but I have to respectfully put Mr. Beck ahead of both of them. There's much more to guitar playing than 'blazing.' But again, that's just my opinion. ;)

Why do you think they are hitting Europe first? The old school idea of touring Europe a little 1st/ working out the bugs and building up the hype before hitting American shores? That used to be common for big acts/names but not that many bands seems to go that route anymore. Maybe I'm out of touch. lol Likely. What do you think reason is for hitting Europe first?
Little Dreamer

Roadrunner, their label, is very strong in Europe. They're able to put together the festival and venues fairly quickly. I know the Paris venue they're playing at is really cool.
Satriani and RHCP have very strong fanbases over there (more than Sammy). Also Sam has said that he feels he overlooked Europe in the last few years (he has).
Might be just something as simple as Sammy thinking "Damn the beach! I've seen enough of Cabo the last few years, a little European vacation would be nice!" :D
