What tune did you hear on a boot that just rocked your world? Surprized and Delighted you? Made you want to start a garage bar band? Made you jump on your bed and try to do the splits?
I'd have to say that "Lucille" in '81 just floored me.Wow. "Jean Genie" in '76 was pretty amazing, too.
In a live setting, I remember when Van Hagar played "Mississippi Queen" in the middle of YRGM--whoa that was too cool.

I know a lot of people hate it, but I just love Romeo Delight off of the US Festival. "I forgot the fucking words".

People who don't like DLR seem to get a lot of milage outa the 'forgot the fuckin words' thing... I really dont think its a case of him forgetting the words, its just part of his show.. y'know. Geez I'm havin so much fun here, who needs lyrics?
Its just too predictable in the way he delivers it to be genuine IMHO

Just because of the rumors of the last few months, it's funny that Dave mentions David Coverdale in the 1980 London Invasion bootleg.

I totally dig their cover of "The Rover" on the Goldenwest Ballroom boot even better than the Zep original. If there had been such a thing as MTV's latest show , best cover band (did anyone see this crap?), Van Halen would have killed. Just to hear Ed tear up other people's songs makes them an awesome cover band.

AMEN kpl!!! Sometimes mentioning "covers" will bring people to nearly cry. I also dig Van Rothin's version of "Hots on for noone"--I'd love to hear them doin'"Houses of the Holy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

We Die Bold is an awesome song, either on Goldenwest or the WB demo. It's probably on other live boots from that era too. It's a great song.

I recently traded for a cassette of Van Halen live in Cleveland '81. I was listening to it on my boom box and it sounded SLOW(like it was transferred from a record at the wrong speed or mastered wrong)so I put the tape in my handheld recorder and sped it up until--oh yeah this sounds like Halen is supposed to. I was kinda tired and sorta half listening to the show as I was organizing my bachelor pad when right before ATBL,Eddie and Alex and Mike play a lil' of the riff to EARACHE MY EYE by Cheech and Chong--wow WOW WHOA--too cool. I had only read about that before but hearing it was such an awesome surprize. Stuff like this renews my faith in the live monster that is Van Halen. Damn, I love bootlegs. I'm off like a prom dress.

I thought that they just rocked on Won't get fooled Again, every time I have heard it it rasies the fur.

I Want Some Action, I just love that song, I wish they would have released it.

I'm always changing my mind on what my favorite is but lately I've been really into the 12.31.77 show at The Whiskey - off of the 'Whiskey-n-Gin' CD. I think its the best version of 'Down in Flames' available. 'Just What You Wanted' and 'No More Waiting' are killer. Lastly, the solo in 'You Really Got Me' is fabulous.

Next week I'll probably have 'Got The Miracle Fingers' in my player - the solo in '5150' is unbeleivable.

I like it when Dave says "Got me a brand new Oakland scarf.." '81, cause I'm an East Bay boy. Rrrrrrrrrraiders! But I love listening to the London 80 show cause i get to hear Tora/Tora/Loss Control (which they should open the next tour up with) Take Your Whiskey Home, Women In Love, and And the Cradle Will Rock...That's a great combo of songs for me.

Cool thread to get dug up again. I just got the Cleveland '81 boot recently and Loons made the call-The Cheech & Chong riff before ATBL is way cool. Is this on any other Fair Warning Boots?
